Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is a first-person shooter video game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. It is the twentieth game in the Call of Duty series, and third entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series, serving as the direct sequel to 2022's Modern Warfare II. The game is scheduled to be fully released on November 10, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Modern Warfare III retains the realistic, modern setting of its predecessors and continues the sub-series' storyline. The story follows multi-national special operations unit Task Force 141 tracking down Vladimir Makarov, a Russian ultranationalist and terrorist planning to trigger a third World War. The game's multiplayer includes all 16 base maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) remastered, with new maps planned for inclusion post-launch. A Zombies mode built around an open world with a player versus environment experience is included, making Modern Warfare III the first Modern Warfare title to include a Zombies mode.
After developing Call of Duty: Vanguard (2021), Sledgehammer Games were assigned to develop an expansion pack for Modern Warfare II. During development, however, Activision chose to make the project a full, standalone entry in the Call of Duty series. Sledgehammer utilized the 9.0 version of the IW engine when developing Modern Warfare III. Treyarch, the lead developers of the Call of Duty: Black Ops subseries, also co-developed the Zombies mode. After a series of leaks in early-to-mid 2023, the game was officially revealed in August 2023,[5] with a showcase event and public beta also taking place in October.

Correction: The people who have already played the campaign didn't spend 70 dollars. The early campaign access is in the Vault Edition, which cost 100 dollars.

Not everybody knew it was just a DLC SCAM.... COD fans have nobody to blame but themselves, they should've seen it coming DECADES AGO, every single release there was less and LESS and LESS and LESS, EFFORT, CONTENT, INNOVATION and they all told activision, here!! Take my money, I APPROVE, so now they don't GET TO BE PISSED, they wanted the GARBAGE and they GOT THE GARBAGE.
The worst part is Activision is probably going to get away with this and nothing will happen. The news will die down until the next Call of Duty, and the cycle repeats itself.

It WAS DLC, it's just MWII had so little content, so many bugs and so many patches that just delivered even more bugs that the game bled too many players and decided to just cut their losses and release this as a new game.
They expected MWII to have the same player retention as MW2019, but it just didn't.
Honestly, not just sticking with MW2019 and just updating it along with that first version of Warzone is probably the most stupid move Activision has ever done, not just from the player's perspective, but also their income''s. MW2019 and the first Warzone were lightning in a bottle, and they just let it rot and die.

@@davidstinger1134 Another problem is that they actually have to commit to a business model and stick to it. They want to be a live service so bad, and they have all the features of one, but that model just doesn’t fit with, “new game every year”. All the games that have these live service elements don’t release new games, on purpose, becuase live service games are collectethon worlds you play for years. No sense in having people buy all these guns, camos, skins, and battle passes if all the gear from them will be wiped to zero next year. The problem is that COD’s gameplay and concept is just too rigid and shallow to justify a live service. Usually games like this are futuristic, fantasy based, or rpg-lights. Those premises give you the freedom to do anything with them. If they commit to live service, COD will be done in 5 years. Only way to save it is to make a Time Travel themed Cod, so you can pull anything from anywhere and keep the ball rolling with actually different things, not just make a seventh AK that’s marginally different.

Last CoD i actually played was CW and i still have yet to unlock all the weapons.
It is pretty obvious that they are remaking Verdansk, we have Military, part of Downtown (the part where you drive through), stadion, the Gulag and the dam and through it in the game for more missions.
The normal missions are what I expect from a CoD (or part of what I expect. I still miss missions where you are just a marine and are part of a larger army. Retaking the white house or being good old Ramirez).
The idea of the open missions is something I think has a lot of potential and something I hope for years that they do. Give you options on how you want to complete a mission. They are here just being done in a strange way. They give you parts of the new Verdansk and give you most of the time one objective like defusing 3 bombs at the dam. If you just shoot though they are maybe 5-10 minutes long. I tried to stealth play them, which was a bit of fun.
The open mission design can work but they need to do more then just throw a few weapon boxes in the area and nothing more. Go all in with it. They have very few alternative routes. The only one I remember is when you can go through a cave to get to a higher position.
Give me more routes, maybe let me crawl through an air vent if I need to get into a building. Let me climb the building and go through an open window or through a door on the roof, multiple doors I can use, go through a wall with explosives. Something like that.
Maybe give me secondary objectives (maybe even small secondary missions inside a mission/area) that give me alternative ways to complete my main mission. For example give me a secondary objective where I need to help someone and in return I get a key card which I can use to open some doors in a building I need to enter. Maybe combine that with another secondary mission which allows me to get some cloths of the people that work in the building and I can sneak into the building that way. Both missions on themself would give you a benefit on their own but you can also combine them.
If the cloths are from some construction workers I can go down in the basement and disable the electricity and it helps me to go through the building more quiet. Maybe give me also the option to get into that room with an air vent. So I can even do that when I just shoot through and still give me an advantage or do it if I don't have the keycard. The keycard would just give me more easy access in the building or some areas I can't access without it. Maybe a weapon storage. They could also place an option to disable the electricity in a sewer system so that you can disable it there. Maybe let the AI react more alarmed if I disable it from the outside so they are more prepared.
Give me some extra fire power through secondary objectives if I want to shoot through these missions. Maybe give me air support if I do them or explosives to do some door breaches/wall breaches. Give me a tank maybe if I need to go into a military base if I do secondary objectives, we already have tank mechanics in the game.
That is just a few ideas for one or maybe two missions with an open mission design. It wouldn't even hurt if they gave you a loadout system before the start where you can decide how you want to handle a mission. Want to go undercover and stealth? Well take a pistol with a silencer. Want to be stealthy but not undercover? Take a silenced smg and a sniper. Want to shoot through? Go with a shotgun and ar. I don't want them to drop the open mission design. I just want that they use the potential of these missions.
Its kind of impressive just how many people they have upset on all sides. The old fans were still upset and now even the group of people who liked and were invested are also upset.

Not really relevant though considering the deal only went through 3 weeks before the game came out. You don't make a game in 3 weeks. They probably didn't even finish the re-organisation and legal aspects in those 3 weeks.
Microsoft/Xbox buying ABK had nothing to do with how bad the game turned out. This game was in development months before the deal went through, the game being announced 2 months before the deal.
If anything, it sounds like ABK investors, including Sony at that point, wanted to cash out on this game as quickly as possible, giving one giant F you to fans before it moved to a new house.

Cant blame the COD developers. Its the customers that are stupid . As already said a thousand times by others, as long as we support this shit by buying it , nothing will change. I think this should be a wake -up call for even the biggest deniers and COD fanboys.
1. Luke is quickly becoming one of my favorite gaming channels to check with each release because he legitimately attempts objectivity and giving the benefit of the doubt while still offering entertaining subjective opinions, as well as calling out bullshit when he sees it.
2. 6:30 "We'll just keep going" and "We'll just keep moving" crashed together at the intersection of brain and mouth. "We'll just keep mcgooving." 😂
This is one of the least objective takes he's ever had, he starts the video going into the game believing all the internet ragebait is true and looks for anything he sees to validate that opinion, including completely nonsense points like it being completely unacceptable to reuse a small section of a previous map in a mission (I guess having continuity in video games is illegal now) and immediately hating on the idea of open missions with multiple paths and ways to complete it... how is having more variety of choice in gameplay a bad thing? The COD hate train this year is completely blown out of proportion and is the best possible proof that the internet will hate things just to hate with zero credibility
Just because you disagree with him doesn't mean it's not objective. Being happy with 4 hrs of recycled content resold as a full game for full price doesn't make it good. He also never said having multiple ways to progress a mission was bad. Would he have to call out every single positive aspect of the games design in order to come off with a negative impression? Having new content and better AI are measurable goals that the game did not fulfill, objectively.

The guns carry forward from MW2 yes but PEOPLE HAVE LITERALLY BEEN ASKING FOR THAT SINCE MW19. And the AI is nowhere near as bad as it seems if you don't play play the game like a chicken with its head cut off, no shit it's gonna seem bad if you run out into the open around corners, if it turned around and one shotted you then wow all of a sudden the AI sucks because it's too hard! this just sums up major gaming companies in 2023. we have seen EA gradually ruin FIFA and Madden by pumping out copy and paste efforts year on year, rts gaming giants Creative Asssembly destroying their total war series by doing the same copy and paste efforts. Im nervous about gaming gods Rockstar as GTA V was 10 years ago and RDR2 was 5 years ago- i hope they havent fallen victim to this complacency in gaming.
In an era where more people are into gaming than ever before and the profits have never been greater games should be getting greater not worse. this is what happens when major studios get run by the money men who only care about profit and not the developers who are the heart and soul of gaming
I just find it so strange. They improved the gameplay from last year, and had built some really nice foundations for the story over the course of two games, and then just COMPLETELY threw it out the window for this game, which is a shame. The actors did a great job and none of them are to blame, nor should they get any hate. But the writers? My god. So much didn't make sense, so much potential was wasted, it was way too short, and they just kept reusing the semi-open world mission type over and over again when it should have been just 1 or 2 of them, and it just overall ruins it. CoD campaigns may not be masterpieces, but they are supposed to have huge set pieces, good, cohesive stories, and fun, unique missions like Clean House. CoD games used to have a great story, and then multiplayer comes after with maps FROM the campaign. Nowadays its the opposite. Im sure the multiplayer will do great based on the gameplay, but still...
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this was way too easy. I’m notoriously terrible at COD campaigns. I’m decent in WZ and MP, but I’m terrible in the single player campaigns, typically I’m lucky to finish on regular difficulty. This was the first time I was able to complete a COD campaign on veteran difficulty.
I believe this entire campaign is a result of the COD teams finally being stretched too thin due to the number of core game systems they must maintain and revitalize with each yearly delivery cycle.
In the past, their primary focus was on a campaign, multiplayer, and co-op/zombies. However, since 2019, they have had to maintain a live service alongside these elements. This will lead to shortcomings in terms of priority treatment. If we want a return to a more quality-driven COD release, I think they will have to separate Warzone into its own product or release. This would provide the development and design teams with the capacity to build those experiences.
Too bad there was only like 3 set piece missions. Was getting the feeling I was just doing Warzone missions, then I got a chopper kill streak but it said airspace is too occupied. That really exposed it
Half the game is regular missions, half is open combat.
What really exposed it was is when I knifed a bot, it called me a fa**ot over a early 2000s headset.

I'm a boomer and only play single player. This is my 2nd non purchase of all CODs. The last one i didn't buy was the one that didn't have a campaign. I started way back, and played all medal of honors, before some creators left to create cod.
Once it's time for treyarchs game, they're gonna have to "abandon" the cod hq model, because treyarchs game won't be compatible, further showing they just are just naming it the Cod HQ to save their asses

As soon as i saw sledgehammer was the developer of vanguard, cold war instead of infinity ward developer of the first 2 remakes, I knew MW3 was going to suck
The last Call of Duty I played was back in 2006. Never touched the series again.
I think I know what they're trying to do with the campaign. It's basically a PvE Warzone tutorial, with a plan to convert as many people into it or since Warzone has been around and it's evolved so much that beginners get confused and give up. With this, when the campaign is over, they're like... hey so you know how Warzone works now... would you like to try it out with real people?
The funny thing is that this isnt a remake, its simply the second sequel to the reboot. It could be a remake it might be better off being a remake but its much worse than a remake. Its a reboot that just does the same thing but worse
This was the first time a CoD campaign genuinely left me disappointed. I started getting into CoD over the summer of this year after I bought BO3 off of my cousin, so I haven't played many CoD games yet. (Only ones I've played is OG Modern Warfare trilogy, MW2 '22, BO1 (haven't finished campaign yet), Cold War, (haven't finished campaign yet), and WaW.) But this is the worst one that I've played. MW3 is the worst CoD campaign I've played, and was the first CoD I played on launch days. Every CoD game that I've beaten took 3-5 days to beat for me when played non-stop. I played MW3 after school, got off it after an hour, didn't play for the rest of the night, then went back to the campaign the next day after experiementing with multi-player a bit. And, 2 hours after I went to continue the campaign, it ends. Soap's death DIDN'T feel the same as the OG MW3. And that's comming from someone who didn't get into CoD until this year. It cuts off too short, and while I DID like the weapons free missions, but they were used too much. I'm interested in where they're going to take the story, if they continue it, but I doubt it'll hit the same as the original trilogy.
I seriously don't understand why people get Cod Games. I think the last game I bought was WWII. Hadn't played any other ones since Advanced Warfare prior to WWII.

Really confirming my opinion that black ops 2 was the last good cod game. MW3 being my favorite cod game of all time, this remake is a slap in the face.

since the release of Modern Warfare 3 i went back and played CoD4R and MW2R on veteran and i am shocked at how they have managed to lose everything that made CoD games great.

Simple as this. Treyarch is the only studio that ever cared. Activision HAVE to do something else (return to the days of BO2 and BO3) or the entire franchise will just be fully killed. It’s sad to see where things have gotten. It’s not even like they won’t make money. Just make a good product! No one cares if it takes three years, there are at least decent call of duty games floating around. Currently, we can keep ourselves occupied until they release some thing that’s actually worth money.
If everyone knew it was going to be bad, why did anyone buy it at all? The reason we keep getting horribly made games and micro-transactions which people claim to hate is because we keep buying them. If we stop buying them they’ll learn that mass production isn’t the right way to make video games.

I was already primed for a break from COD. The SBMM was becoming mentally exhausting. This is definitely a definitive deterrent from the idea of maybe checking out the campaign. You would think that they would try to make a big impression given the recent acquisition by Microsoft that had to bring a massive influx of resources, but I guess not. You said it: the vast majority of people that buy this game every year will probably buy this one and they’ll still make massive amounts of money on war zone micro transactions. So why bother trying? 😂

It also sounds like them trying to make an open world campaign caused some of the issues you mentioned with weapons de-spawning and random deaths.

ive been getting the same resolution problem with MW2, when i close the game everything looks smaller on my 4K HDR monitor.
This campaign is so bad that I stopped replaying my favorite missions from the first two. Especially missions with Soap. I think about the embassy mission and it just pisses me off.
This is a disaster. All the characters added as paddings.
I played it twice, and im going to get 100% completion. I think the gameplay was on par with the MW reboots.
The missions werent as unique as the rest of the reboots.
The story was good. I have enjoyed the story in all the reboots. They fixed the issue of fakout deaths, and not having consequences for major story points.
I think everyone is exaggerating how bad it is, and you were biased againt this game from the start. While the constant "its a $70 DLC" comments are most likely true, we already know. Its not breaking news. They did what they could with the orders they were given, and it turned out fine. There are enough good changes to justify another game, and a DLC would probably not have been free

Well Im not a COD fan. I really enjoyed their first three titles. I recently got MW reboot on special and was blown away, keep in mind I ONLY play Single Player. So I got MW2, and it was fine, a little too much covert alone mission but whatever it was fine and the story was great. I purchased MW3 and I felt utterly ripped off. Currently arguing back and forth with microsoft to get a Refund.
Also..that HQ... The first time I booted MW2 I was left HORRIFIED. That HQ thing is the most toxic shit. But whatever, not my business cause I only play SP and then never touch the game again so whatever, but still.

Man ever since Call of duty infinite warfare, call of duty has been seeing so many Ls here. (except for Modern warfare 2019, that was dope).
Such a sad fate for one of the best Franchises to have ever existed here.

Activision has become big enough where they no longer care about customer experience. They have become a marketing money making machine. It’s not in their business model to create valuable content. The model is based on getting as much money as possible as quickly as possible. It’s how almost every business goes. Combine that with the massive woke influence that drains the life out of everything it touches (including story writers and creators) and what you have is a shadow of what the brand used to be. It’s exactly the same over at EA.
its funny how a game like pokemon has the same issue, the devs have the budget, the time and the workforce to make these games but for like 10+ years they've just refused to innovate
It's because they are scared.. They don't want to take a chance on bringing something new and exciting.
They point blank refuse to provide a decent 20 hour long story.

And they are only given a year to bring a new game to market. They arnt given the time to do what we want. Blaim goes to the parent company and investors not to mention the gamers who keep buying it.
The thing I think I hate the MOST is the Hulu UI of CoD going forward.
Trying to just pick a gamemode or go to Warzone pisses me off soo much that most of the time I just turn the game off

I’m not really a fan of CoD anymore, my last purchase was WW2 and I actually enjoyed that. The repetitive copy and paste it has become just isn’t appealing anymore. I used to really love CoD, I’ve played since it came out on PC many many moons ago. I’m more of a Battlefield player now, and haven’t looked back. 🤷🏻♂️
For the first time a CoD campaign feels more like a video game instead of an interactive movie and low attention span simpletons are up in arms. CoD fans would rather have linear missions where they follow npcs from point A to point B over and over again as opposed to an open environment that actually requires strategy and tactics.

Madden is the other franchise that keeps getting worse, yet their fans keep buying the next one.
Glad I didn’t pick this one up. I don’t care about campaigns when it comes to COD but I just couldn’t come to terms with paying 70+ for a reskin dlc with no new multiplayer maps.
No no no, Luke. You got it backwards. The COD fanbase hating MWIII isn't the most damning thing about the reception of the game. COD fans are impossible to satisfy, and consistently complain about every aspect of every entry in the series.
I like to compare Call of Duty to an abusive relationship. COD fans know they hate the game, and yet they'll find every excuse to justify why they still play it. They can't seem to detach themselves from the torture of having to play COD every year.

The answer to why this seems so lazy and rushed despite supposedly having thenlargest dev team to date: Bobby F*ckbucket did everything he could to push this game out so he could get paid for it since it will be the last game he'll be able to make money off of. He didn't care about quality or even having a full product to bring to market, let alone care about the mess he is leaving for Microsoft to handle. None of this is lazy, it's greedy and rushed.
The first modern warfare was awesome. So sad. Skipping this COD.

The people buying every CoD release don't watch videos like this, and don't care about the actual quality of the game. They care about whether or not their friends are playing it and if it plays like Call of Duty. That's it. Remember when we all said, "vote with your wallets"? Yeah, I think we forgot that people with bad taste have money too.

The fact that Activision gave this enormous task of making MWIII in a year to Sledgehammer, the weakest CoD developer, showed how much care they have for this franchise. They are not Treyarch who can made CoD 3 (yes it's not the best CoD but at least the campaign is light years better than this travesty) with their own internal engine in just 8 months.

And here I was thinking after Modern warfare I would buy every call of duty again. But after seeing this, damn not going to give them anything. So sad to see😢
