Yeah, just a year ago she was glued to the bench, and now she's ready to step into some huge PG shoes. The good news is she's got Strack trying to fill Liz's role. They're still babies, just because the last batch of babies were undisputed Top 5 leaders in the conference & Top 10 nationally. I'm curious to see what she & Strack can do CONSISTENTLY. That's the key word with young and/or limited experience taking the leadership roles. No one knows how soon the light bulb will come on, and then you've gotta find your chemistry/groove/flow, as a team. With luck, they learned enough to be halfway already, so midseason things should be kinda fluid...maybe. You just can't coach the light bulb part, but you can develop chemistry playing together. It's all about buying what this coach is selling, and they're gonna have to adjust to a woman coach. Men tend to deal with women VERY differently than women deal with each other! It wouldn't shock me to hear this new coach frustratingly say Coach Kenny spoiled them, simply because men never push girls as hard or as firmly as they can boys. Why? We don't know how much is too much, whereas with boys you can max out at vomiting once in a while. We would never work a girl that hard on purpose, but a woman who's played knows what it looks & feels like.
Myah and Carleigh are of royal loyal Hokie lineage (non transfers) plus they just nailed their auditions as podcast hosts! Let there be a coronation, if not Queens, at least Princesses. We need a Season 3. Love Carleigh's candor and Myah's poise as well as giving us hope that all will be well in Hokie Nation.
What a great interview! Carleigh, you’re thoughtful, articulate, insightful, introspective, personable, and obviously a leader on and off the court. So glad you’re a Hokie!
So excited for next year. I watched every game (class of ‘71 Radford but married and lived in B’burg). Living in SC now and love my Hokies. I played high school basketball before Title 9 and what you guys are doing is amazing. Keep it up. You are still our QUEENS.
Great interview, I'm impressed how sober and mature they are in these interviews, she knows she needs to learn how to dribble "on a string" type stuff and you know come fall she will be a better ball handler by then. A little different than I expected. Good hearing from someone on the inside after the kerfuffle of the last few weeks and how things really transpired, some of us had a Brooks "inside" players narrative going on and that's not really what I hear here. I guess Liz is doing rehab in the gym but really nice to see Liz and Cayla in the background in some of the pictures. Kinda cool that she talks to "Whit" on occasions, interesting that the AD was running a little interference until the new coach was decided upon and brought in. One thing Carleigh got right is knowing that it's a good thing to learn pg under a different coach to broaden her knowledge.
I am a big Carleigh fan, and this was heartening to see her embrace a leadership position. However, it is entirely possible that a senior/5th year PG is brought in who would start over Carleigh & delay Carleigh’s ascension by a year. I wonder how she would react to that (would she be patient) and am hopeful she would still be a team leader even with fewer minutes than she is now expecting but still probably more than she had this year. She showed great patience in that vacuum after Brooks but pre-Duffy. 💪
Carleighs not in the portal or following brooks to Kentucky like a puppy dog? Lol. And guess what? The new coach from Marquette will be gone soon too. Give her about 3 years
Carleigh's ceiling is so high. Can't wait for next season. 🤘
Enjoyed the interview and personality. Hmmm, maybe Carleigh assumes the mantel for leading the Queens of Cassell podcast for 2024-25 season?
Big respect for you, Carleigh! 🧡🦃 The torch is being passed and you’re carrying it well!
I just can't believe how mature and articulate these young women are. So impressed.
