Carole King was one of the few women who worked in the Brill Bldg. as a staff writer alongside her then husband Jerry Goffin she wrote some of the most popular songs of the day. "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" was a big deal for them because it allowed Jerry to quite his "day job" (he was a chemist, I think).

The instrument you asked about at around 2:20 is the stand up bass. It is the lowest of the string instruments. There are 4 string instruments in total. Listed from highest to lowest in terms of the sounds they make those instruments are called: violin, viola (it looks like a slightly bigger violin), cello (the one people sit to play), and bass (usually known outside of classical music as the stand-up bass, so as not to be confused with the bass guitar). I was lucky enough to play this amazing instrument for 8 years, when I was younger. It makes such stunningly beautiful low tones.

She was also the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!! And, most importantly, she was a very important part of the civil rights movement.

Wow! The "Queen of Soul" is just that. Aretha started singing in the gospel choir at church in Detroit as a young lady. Then Motown's Barry Gordy found out about her, just like Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Dianna Ross and The Supremes, and on and on. All those stars from the same neighborhood basically. What an incredible story of Soul and R&B music. From the early 1960s on into the 70s, Motown was king.

Aretha will always be the queen of soul. I was 10 years old in 1964 and my family had just moved to Poughkeepsie New York. I got my first transistor AM radio ( look it up) lol. So I tuned in to WABC radio station in New York City and for the first time in my life I heard soul music and rock and roll music. The Beatles were playing , Aretha, James Brown, The Rolling Stones, The Supremes etc. And honestly I didn't know what race they were and I didn't care. This was music that made me want to dance and made me want to find out more about these artists. Of course back then all we had was a black and white TV and the only show that did live music was American bandstand but thank goodness Dick Clark wasn't prejudice so I got to see all of these singers when they came on the Bandstand. My mom and dad grew up listening to Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. They didn't understand the music I was listening to & didn't like it at first. You keep listening there are so many singers from the '60s and '70s that really paved the way for all of the black singers now. Go through the whole Motown playbook find all of their groups and solo acts. . Some of my favorites were the Spinners, the Four Tops, The Temptations, Supremes, and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. I'm lucky to have seen the Four tops The spinners and The Temptations live!!!

And, Aretha's playing the piano on this, too. Sadly, she passed about three years ago at the age of 76. Hers is a deep catalog and it's worth the dive.

It's so good it almost hurts. Yes, please react to more Motown hits of the 60s. Nothing better.

Year I was born! Phenomenal performance by Ms. Franklin, a legend, and a phenomenal song written by Carole King, a legend in her own right. I highly recommend you listen to "Baby I Love You" by Franklin next; it's HOT!!! By the way, she was a Preacher's Daughter and got her start singing in the church 😊

Great job Twon -- Old soul in young body. I like the respect you give the "way-makers." You do all genres well. First found you through your PTX reaction. Keep it balanced -- some old and some new. Much love young man. Keep up the good work

Queen Aretha! Look into her Autobiography! This very powerful woman was constantly hit with challenges and destroyed each and every one if them. Up to battling cancer; had her chemo bag hidden under her dress and still performing!

The Queen of Soul. Decades of songs. RIP
One of her sisters and a cousin were two of her back up singers. Met her sister once in the mid 80’s. We all lived in Detroit.
