Your question at 2:30 about weight capacity: total weight capacity = weight of the boat plus availability weight capacity. They are saying you only have 298 lbs of paddler and gear before you’re overloaded. Or, the weight of the empty boat counts against the total weight capacity.
Been waiting for this upload! The 119 is just a fun hybrid to have around. I’ve been floating the Little Red River here in north Arkansas the last couple weekends and fishing for trout. Went and checked some public land out for deer and duck hunting seasons coming up, only accessible by small craft. Did a little squirrel hunting out of it last week while fishing the local creek by the house. Blast and Cast type of deal. It seriously is a do all, super minimalistic boat.
Total weight vs usable weight means that they count the canoe’s weight when calculating how much you can carry. Total weight is usable weight + kayak weight.
Bought my Discovery 119 3 weeks ago. I've had it out on the water once. I'm modding/moving the Ash nylon webbed seat BACK Aft and UP to the Top of the Gunwales. I can't stand a Canoe that makes me feel like I'm in a Kayke. The seat is too Low and is about on mid canoe. It's got to feel like a Canoe.
Great review Ethan! Boats like this are great for exploring backcountry waters and places with difficult launches. Also, a great grab and go design; simple and lightweight if you only have a couple of hours to fish. Some of the reasons why I own my Grumman 129 Solo canoe. Glad you got to slime her up with some beautiful panfish. And a nice juicy perch. What a hoot you had out there! 😂
Oh great! I just got caught up on your vids and saw this bad boi in your st croix rod review. I love small crafts! I swear I spend more time tinkering with my gear than actually fishing.
Yeah I definitely need to return with a bigger rod to chase largies and pike with. Honestly though I didn't get the impression there were a lot of big fish in here.
Man I thought that was a canoe but it's a nice kayak man. I see it's long enough for you for as tall as you are you still have plenty of leg space. It's definitely awesome if you going camping that's for sure.
@@FishAnything It's a low maintenance boat and I'm going to get me one in the Photic Camo color for it matches my vintage 94 Chevy K1500 truck !!! This boat is light weight and easy to carry to the water and it's no brainer for me and yes now the price is around 1'300 bucks but it'll last me my life time now 62 !!!
So i was shopping for a new canoe for the upcoming season and i end up back here. Funny how that happens. Ethan, I never realized youre that tall. Im 5'10" so the Discovery shouid have more than enough room for me. Being that your tall id say your legs are much longer. That was really my main concern when looking into these yakanoes. Or kayak canoe thingy. My son says its a yakanoe. Must be the vouge term now idk lol. He came home from school the other day talkin bout everything bein "bussin". I was like whatd u call me? Lol idk anyways that canoe looks bussin and i wasnt expecting to end up back here. Thats the hoot of all hoots. Id say its a full blown yee haw at this point. Loved the vid as always. Ima go calm down now
I have a nucanoe flint but I’ve realized that standing isn’t that important to me. Is this canoe better in the wind since you sit lower in the water? I’m like a sail on the flint lol.
This is a fun canoe but because it is so light, you are likely going to have challenges with the wind in this rig as well. Wind is pretty much an issue for all paddle watercraft. Getting pedals makes a big difference!
@@FishAnything I had a 10' sit in kayak, a 10' sit on top kayak for fishing they didn't feel right, I have a 17' canoe that we go fishing in but it's to much for just me to go fishing, I figured I'd be more comfortable in this style kayak/ canoe. Thanks again.
I use a wilderness commander 120, pretty similar, I’ve had it since 2011. It’s a perfect grab and go boat. Looks like the discovery is one in the same. The best part about sit in kayaks is that you can just throw it on your shoulder and go carry it to more remote areas. That water looks like Lake Eufaula, pretty cool stuff.
100% agree. I have seen those boats as well and have always thought they were awesome. I think Native has a similar one too. Any hybrid canoe/kayak gets a thumbs up from this guy :D
Hey Ethan. After 2+ yrs, is this still in your fleet? Do you use it much? Been looking to replace my 80lb Ascend 12t (that is like paddling a cinder block!) with something lighter. Some of the waters I want to fish around here require a little carry-in which I REALLY need something lighter for.
I still have it but it actually lives at my parent's house now. I still love the boat, but I tend to use the pedal drive kayak more often because it is much more comfortable to fish off of.
If you need to stand, I would opt for a more stable rig. The Pelican will be a good rig but if you start fishing in the yak a ton, you might end up wanting something that tracks a bit better. Some of the major fishing kayak name brands tend to be a slightly better long-term kayak. Let me know how else I can help :)
Bought my Discovery 119 for about $850. Is it worth it? Well,...? It's certainly not one of the Old Time Lincoln Fiberglass Canoes we had back in the 70's and 80's. I really miss my old canoe.
Almost back in stock! Stay tuned to the social media pages I’ll post updates! Sorry for the inconvenience - lots of supply chain challenges worldwide right now!
Hey, in your "All ultralight anglers need to use it rig" video, what reel are you using 🤷♂️ just found your channel and know i will enjoy your content 😄
I’ve watched a few review videos about the old town sportsman 119. Every single one the review is painfully forced. No one trusts standing up in it and rightfully so but they all fake like “yeah you could def stand”. It was designed to fishing and hunt in and yet this reviewer suggests it’s better for exploring than fishing. Yikes.
I am sorry you feel that way. As you can see in the title, this is not a review but simply a product showcase/fishing adventure. Also... I am not a hunter so I wouldn't necessarily think to show that in this boat. Regardless, I think it is an awesome boat and I would recommend it for fishing, camping, and other outdoor adventures. I believe it would work to do some waterfowl hunting out of as well but, again, I am not a hunter so I may not be the best one to ask. Have a great day!

Sounds like you are using it like a total outdoorsman! That would be a lot of fun to hunt out of this thing!!

Thank you for sharing!!
nice to be taken around your river system - good ride and nice review of your boat, thanks!!!
Thank you David! Love this canoe :)
what is the technical difference between a kayak and a canoe ?
I’m sure it’s something to do with hull design but I can’t say I know the exact defined difference.
It's a canak !!!
Kayaks have decking fore and aft. A canoe is open hulled, eg a Canadian canoe.
Any fish is a good fish. And all of those fish were great. Lots of fun. Great video, great job. loved it.
Thank you! I totally agree, I am not one to complain about any fish :)
Perfect for drifting on big steelhead rivers
Lol you and your dang steelhead! Maybe I will give it a rip one of these days :D
@@FishAnything Sorry Ethan but I will keep bugging you until I see you get one. Just remember they’re just big angry trout.
Vary nice! That boat has been on my short list for a while now, but I've started to lean towards something a little bigger to bring the boy along too.
That makes total sense. This rig is definitely great for solo missions hence the name, but you can't go wrong with a larger canoe.

Heading up to the U.P. next week with those mule jigs I just received. Bring on the brookies!
YES! Get it done my friend. Hope you crush them. 🤠👊🏽
That would be a perfect boat for the boundary waters, looks pretty sweet.
Yeah I definitely want to take this to the UP someday
Love the adventurous vibes man! So cool seeing another Ultralight angler 🤙 That kayak is NICE!
Thanks man! Love this rig 🤠👊🏽

Heck yea Fitzy! You pretty much nailed it on the head. This & my pdl 120 give me all the abilities I need right now. 🤠
Holy cow. I'm not the only guy that makes a big deal about smallest fish 😂
I can't help myself. I love dinky fish.
Oh great! I just got caught up on your vids and saw this bad boi in your st croix rod review. I love small crafts! I swear I spend more time tinkering with my gear than actually fishing.
Haha yeah man join the club. I have some type of fishing gear in my hands at pretty much all times XD Thanks Richard!
After seeing that, I want a Disco 119. Several of my buddies in NC swear by 'em.
They are pretty dang epic. Big fan of this hybrid canoe
@@FishAnything Oh and congrats on the new little guy. Hope Mom and Son are doing well !!!
They are kicking butt, thank you!
Wow I wished I had a place like that to fish with a frog. That area looks awesome. Nice different kayak design. 👊👍
Yeah I definitely need to return with a bigger rod to chase largies and pike with. Honestly though I didn't get the impression there were a lot of big fish in here.
I’m about to buy one, I just want to see someone camp out of it so see if it’s worth it for camping
I would think it would be perfect for that type of stuff.
It’s a canoe. Not a kayak. I’ve had one of these for 20 years. It was called a pack canoe. Great boat. Just an upgraded pack canoe
Man I thought that was a canoe but it's a nice kayak man. I see it's long enough for you for as tall as you are you still have plenty of leg space. It's definitely awesome if you going camping that's for sure.
Yeah it is a canoe/kayak hybrid. Basically just a solo canoe you use a kayak paddle with :) Definitely going to be a fun rig to fish and camp out of!
Finely someone my hight test a fishing canoe/kayak 👍🏻 🎣 great video. Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴
Greetings :) glad you enjoyed the video!
If it wasn't so damn expensive, I'd consider buying one.
I feel ya on that man but it'd last you decades if you take care of it. Buy once cry once
It’s a solid piece of equipment that should last a long time, however I understand the cost is a hurdle.

Kool kayak / canoe Can you stand up in it??
I stood in this video a couple times but it’s pretty sketchy. I would say you can stand to stretch your legs but not much past that

I gotta lend it to you to do a write-up on for your site :) you tell me when brother
