If you loved 4th Edition D&D, you should really check out 13th Age. Rob Heinsoo (the listed first on the Design Team for 4e) designed it along with Jonathan Tweet (of 3e fame). It is a great game, and I would like to hear your thoughts on it.
Yeah, I agree with the cover art. The limited edition is nice, though. I have an issue with the PDF - the bookmark navigation organization is awful! I have been working on fixing for myself. As far as the bookmark navigation goes, I LOVE IT!! I have been using the encounter budget and templates for my table and the battles have been way more challenging and fun. I love the Variant Combat rules - we have been discussing them and adding them at our table. Great video - as always!
Yeah, I was shocked at the MV2 kickstarter announcmenet as well. Yes, their Monster books are great, if you look at the Kickstarters they have done, the Monster Books make BANK (consistently). The fact they are getting a second set of samples out before WotC get's out there first Monster Manual book... that is saying something (I'm not sure what it says). I admit I like their Campaign Builder series more (especially those MAPS!).
So... is it possible that the cover was made dark in addition to downplay it to the end buyer's vision, because it is intended for GMs & not everyone? If someone wants to be a GM they are most likely going to pick it up no matter the artwork, but a player who is just perusing the books on the shelf would be less likely to pick it up on a whim.
You know how I feel about 5e, but I'll tell you, this book is really a great book for a GM of any system. Regardless of whether you are running ToV, 5e, Pathfinder, Numenera or Cypher system, I'd add this book to my shelf.
It is a Void Dragon though, so it prefers the dark. LoL. But yeah, that I agree that it would be lost maybe on a shelf. To be fair, ToV books are mainly sold online anyway.
I still need to properly cover the GMG... Im wanting to emphasis the books utility, especially to 5E'ers who only got into the hobby with "DND" 5E and have no experience with any other system or edition... like, the ToV GMG is so superior to the WotC D&D 5e 14/24 version that the WotC "designers" should be ashamed of themselves for focusing on artwork, and diversity, and being "modern"... Also Cypher... Hehe... You notice how everyone who established D&D for WotC back in 3e is now WAY better at doing RPG's then WotC? Its like they drove away all their talent! Paizo, Monte Cook Games, Green Ronin Publishing, Kobold Press...so many more... Anyway, yeah, great video! Hopefully people put more eyes on this!
Yes lots of TOV content. I love it.
Tales of the Valiant keeps looking better and better. Love how all these books are organized.

Love your videos man, keep up the content - great quality and very informative!!
Thanks!
While it is in a different genre, the Wardens Manual for Mothership v1 is also excellent!

You should have gotten the limited edition book. The cover is magnificent 😅
Please email Kobold Press to tell them to send me that one next time 😂

The players’ book cover is really bad. Incomprehensible choice that doesn’t feel valiant at all (would have been fine as an interior piece of art).
