WOW! John my respect for you, which is already pretty high, just went up several notches. The catch was great but the landing, unhooking and release... Spectacular!
50 years ago I watched my father do the same thing on the north shore. It was late August and he got the brown shark to hit a surface lure. All I wanted to do was get out of the water and all he wanted to do was land the shark. Which he did and got the hook out the same way. You sir, are walking in the footsteps of giants. Great video
Man what a catch. Landing a shark of that size on the shore is a absolute accomplishment. Thought it was funny that the second you stopped the plug he went for it!
Well Mr Skinner I'm pretty positive you're the only guy I know that can get away with saying I wish I hooked a smaller fish and not have to explain yourself..... great video !!
Your content is amazing hands down the best. Had my PB with almost about all species this year. Fishing some of the same areas. Thanks for all the tips and tricks
Brownie on the north shore!! I've caught plenty on the south shore but that's definitely a rare occasion. Best line I really need this fish to stop!!! Then the hooked popped phew still in the game !!! Awesome video keep them coming
Top-tier fishing day for you Skinner. I know the sharks were unexpected but you sure handled them pretty darn good for being alone. That night one was pretty cool up close and personal. A heck of a memorable moment there on a surf rod.
That was a beast (the Skinner Rod) and the shark was big, too!! Talk about a true test of your new namesake rod!! Awesome job all the way around! Bravo, Skinner!!
Reminds me of my Shark battle! Landed a 41/2 foot Brown Shark! 20lb Berkeley trilene with 50lb backing! Took me 90 minutes to bring it in! Did two big runs on me! I'll never forget that challenge! Also used live eels for bait! Thanks John!
Another amazing video, John. Reminds me when you walked the Tarpon to landing point on the shore this past winter season in Florida. Your skills are wonderful to watch.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing yes, an awesome surprise and more importantly, you were able to put your John Skinner 9" rod to a real test. If it can handle those two big sharks, then it can handle just about anything. Btw...I loved your reaction when that first shark took your lure. You were elated!!! 😁😃😄👍
I'm laughing thinking of the new surf belts they'll market. Tail rope, huge jaw pliers, and dehookers, just an old school guy that remembers 20.00 Luxors.
Great bit of angling there to land that one. Glad to see someone else understands the true definition of actually landing a fish, leader touches are an excuse, not a definition.
I remember an older video where you caught a shark at night and you couldn’t get out of the water fast enough now you are pulling hooks out with your bare hands and tiny pliers. Very exciting video! Got my heart pumping! Be careful I want you to make a lot more videos!
Dang John, I catch sharks a lot and you were a bit close to that one, especially your feet! When you said "I need him to stop" I busted out laughing. That's the "big one" call. Then when you said "I'll grab him by the tail" I said "uh oh".
That good ol pop pop pop pause. That was epic ! “ surf fishing has sucked “…. Shark shows up lol. There’s at least one reason why it hasn’t been of years past.
Impressive John!... both of those sharks definitely tested your gear!... I was surprised you were able to land that second one... he was definitely a big boy. I've had several people tell me that sharks won't hit artificials, but I've had hook ups on a jig and a large spoon... I guess those sharks didn't get the message about not hitting artificials... Lol
Global warming.the ocean is getting HOT🎣🤷♂️ And I caught 2 cownose sting rays 100+lbs. And lost 3 from the surf in South Jersey. Not what I was fishing for, the fight was awesome but very exhausting .
Good release. I can't tell you how many big nurse sharks over 100lbs we have caught soaking meat for tarpon in Fort Myers. Any more it's mono only, no wire. I would rather loose them if there that big. I guess you know you made your mark on the fishing industry when they carry your name on a brand of rod. Good job John.
Its amazing how these fish are now making a showing in the eastern sound. Unbelievable still after how many encounters you've had by now? A month ago we pulled up a seabass off mattituck with a fresh bite wound!
This is why I tell people shark is like any other fish that will go for that top water action... so if one is swimming with you more likely dont be like that lure
John I thought you were about to get spooled. I would've loved to see that shark, I bet you might have liked to see it too. The brown that you landed was impressive, the way the first one was taking drag.... WOW. UNSTOPPABLE!!!
We are going to need a bigger boat. Oh wait, no boat. I'm going to grab him by the tail. LOL. Man, I thought I saw it all but you continue to amaze me with what you catch.
The amount of large pelagic live on the beaches the past couple of years is amazing. We’re catching Giant Tuna less than 3 miles from shore in RI first time in over 30 years.
I believe it’s correlated to the reduction of the Bunker quota over the past 3 years of the factory ship Omega. It’s by no means a reduction in boats there are more boats and more boaters than ever.
Many many times I’ve heard my lite rig sing like that when I hooked an unexpected King Salmon , fishing for Pinks. It’s a wonderfully frightening sound!! I know , you know just what I mean!
Sharks have been CRAZY off the surf this year! 100-200 lb Spinners we’re smashing bunker 50 yards off Seaside Park this year, flying 5 feet out of the water! They were hitting poppers amd we were snagging and dropping bunker for them too
I've got a vacation planned for Caswell beach, NC next month in October. 1) Do you think there's good fishing there? 2) What would you advise for surf fishing?
My buddy caught an Osprey recently. Thankfully we were able to release it easily. It had grabbed his top water plug and was hooked in both talons. We "Landed It" and were able to release it safely.
Hey John, I think I probably got one of the first versions of your Dark Matter rod and absolutely love it. Have you tried pairing the SaltX reel with it..... I tried the 4000 on several outings and its a great matchup BUT terrible wind knots. No such issue with the Penn SpinFisher 5500 and was just wondering if you ever tried it? Great vid as always!
I usually use a SaltX 6000 on it. I just happened to have the spinfisher on this trip because I needed to change the line on the SaltX. I'll be back to the SaltX 6000 on my next video.
This might be a silly question … but I notice you do fish alone in a lot of your videos and you always find yourself hooked up to sharks . Does it not cross your mind that you might need help sometimes ? 🤣🤣🤣 I’m still green to fishing but I would worried if I ever hooked and landed something like that . GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS !!!!!
SKINNER with the UNASSISTED RELEASE of a 100 pound brown shark! Long Island is truly blessed with a living fishing legend!
Well said couldn’t AGREE more
WOW! John my respect for you, which is already pretty high, just went up several notches. The catch was great but the landing, unhooking and release... Spectacular!

That. Was. Out-frikkin-standing ! When he thrashed as you were pulling the hook, I nearly shat myself.... Strong catch & release, John ;-)
If it's been bad for you, imagine how it has been for us mere mortals.
Very cool vid!
I'm cracking up lol so true
Foreal tho lol
Yep. Absolutely brutal season for me so far
John Skinner. The Fish Wisperer. The Amazing Great. Please don't stop your amazing work. We love you.
THE COOLEST! You're a legend. Just at a loss for words...
What a pleasure to see you negotiate the rocks, landing the shark on the beach and unhooking it, all by yourself. Absolutely legendary!
Great catch and release John. That was exciting and I know my heart would have been pounding.
You my friend are the master of fishing prowess. Cheers to Skinner. Love your videos in the North and South.
Your content is amazing hands down the best. Had my PB with almost about all species this year. Fishing some of the same areas. Thanks for all the tips and tricks

Amazing to see how you use the line to manouvre the shark as if you walk your dog on a leash. Calm attitude with a huge predator. Respect!
Epic evening of fishing! Landing a shark on the beach in the dark! You handled him with all due respect and you worked the hook out. Bless you!
Beautiful brownie... glad he got back... & hopefully a full recovery . Superb skill John 👍
Your a brave one doing that all by yourself. You must really love that lure! Great video!
Great video as usual! Tight lines!
Wowed John. Hat to you bringing this monster to shore. Great video. Thanks for sharing 👍
Unbelievable video. Skinner is the best!
Wow, that was exciting, John....thanks for sharing! Two good size sharks on the same trip. 👍
And they're not supposed to be in the Sound. Really a freakish evening.
I have a funny feeling John is coming out with another book “Sharking Pursuit”! Crazy with the sharks this year!!!
I'm laughing thinking of the new surf belts they'll market. Tail rope, huge jaw pliers, and dehookers, just an old school guy that remembers 20.00 Luxors.
Putting that 9 foot skinner rod to work, impressive.
You’re killing it !!! That was soo cool !!!
Epic John, great show and your a legend man. Stay well too.
OMG.....That was amazing. My heart was beating 💓 so fast. 🦈
Didn’t know there were tarpon on North Fork. What a run!
The shark is around because the stripers around, get food so must have fish??That's a good size shark for that tackle!!Good video!!
I researched them after that and realized they're not going to try and eat me or take off a limb.
Dang John, I catch sharks a lot and you were a bit close to that one, especially your feet! When you said "I need him to stop" I busted out laughing. That's the "big one" call. Then when you said "I'll grab him by the tail" I said "uh oh".
Got some stones hopping off that rock with a pissed off shark attached to you.
those sharks are pretty harmless
Well done John. That was totally amazing !!!
That good ol pop pop pop pause. That was epic ! “ surf fishing has sucked “…. Shark shows up lol. There’s at least one reason why it hasn’t been of years past.
Love the pop pop pop pause. I'm struggling here in the uk . Autumn better improve.
Wow John, the first one was a freight train. I don't know how you do it. Thanks for the video.
True test of your gear that’s awesome
That’s a big brown! Nice work Skinner!
Awesome John, the rod handled great, this was some good content 🎣
Impressive John!... both of those sharks definitely tested your gear!... I was surprised you were able to land that second one... he was definitely a big boy. I've had several people tell me that sharks won't hit artificials, but I've had hook ups on a jig and a large spoon... I guess those sharks didn't get the message about not hitting artificials... Lol
Good thing you weren’t “skishing” that night. Thanks for sharing!
John you either love fishing or you are a very brave man. I gonna go with both!
Dam john you are truly a beast of a fisherman. Amazing video as always 👏
Wow
That’s a monster shark
Nice catch John
Nice job. Lotta work but most importantly a clean release!
Wow, crazy catch !! Nice job !!
WOW i've known a 10lb fluke to be mythical in the LIS but a big shark on a popper and eels... THATS EPIC!
Global warming.the ocean is getting HOT🎣🤷♂️ And I caught 2 cownose sting rays 100+lbs. And lost 3 from the surf in South Jersey. Not what I was fishing for, the fight was awesome but very exhausting .
It is really messed up for sure.
Wow… that run was insane.
John F’in Skinner
Legend
good thing you got that on video, because idk who woudve believed it LOL
Amazing job with that shark. Beaching him by yourself and getting the hook out? At night? And a good release.
Thats what fishing is all about.
Wow!! Awesome landing and release.
16:15 "We are going to need bigger boots!" ;)
This guy is an absolute legend. Idk how he only has 120k subs
WOW- That was AWESOME!!!!
Epic fight man. Definitely a hold on for dear life moment
Nice release John!!
another great video. thanks for sharing it with us.
That's amazing!! Crank it down and hope for the best. Wow. A hook straightner. Give me some of that.
Awesome vid. Thanks John. Take me to a that spot…..😎
Its amazing how these fish are now making a showing in the eastern sound. Unbelievable still after how many encounters you've had by now? A month ago we pulled up a seabass off mattituck with a fresh bite wound!
oh man! You are a rock star! Great Vid!!!
Wow ! That was EPIC !!!!
One good video, we getting spinner sharks in no last 4-5 days crazy
That was awesome. Thanks for sharing!
almost as exciting as the shark on the kayak last winter!
wow john you seem to be getting a lot of sharks this year.
This is why I tell people shark is like any other fish that will go for that top water action... so if one is swimming with you more likely dont be like that lure
That was awesome. Great catch. That rod is a BEAST... I need one off those John skinner rods badly.. I hope I'm lucky enough to get one, one day..
That was amazing catch and release!
Skinner when I grow up I want to be just like you..
The guru of fishing 🎣.
Pretty cool John. Would love to have seen what you had on the line that spit the hook!
An even larger version of the same thing I assume.
Thanks for the video great job
John I thought you were about to get spooled. I would've loved to see that shark, I bet you might have liked to see it too. The brown that you landed was impressive, the way the first one was taking drag.... WOW. UNSTOPPABLE!!!
Hi Ken. That first one was heading to your new state!
Massive creature. Great catch!
Hey John so you have any videos that show how your reeling while using a topwater? Trying to learn :)
Very cool. I carry a 12inch Shimano pliers for just such an occasion. You have nerves of steel. 🤣
Unbelievable ! Nice catch !
Nice grinner, John. That dark matter stick is pretty impressive.
Watching the video I realize the rod should have snapped. It certainly has a lot of stopping power.
Wow! Just wow!
Damn dude.. How much line did you have on there ? 500 yards ?! lol.. He sure was strippin it... Very cool !
We are going to need a bigger boat. Oh wait, no boat. I'm going to grab him by the tail. LOL. Man, I thought I saw it all but you continue to amaze me with what you catch.
I was just fishing the sound near smithtown 2 days ago.. its quiet maybe a few bites. This take place on the north fork?
The amount of large pelagic live on the beaches the past couple of years is amazing. We’re catching Giant Tuna less than 3 miles from shore in RI first time in over 30 years.
i have to wonder the decrease in boats and fishing during the pandemic as let the oceans have time to heal
I believe it’s correlated to the reduction of the Bunker quota over the past 3 years of the factory ship Omega. It’s by no means a reduction in boats there are more boats and more boaters than ever.
Mr Skinner youre amazing
That’s awesome to see this video sorry to say I might have cut the leader
Amazing 🙌 Not a fun sized shark. Great video. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Thanks
Very very well done. How tight did you have the drag set for the first shark that got away and the 2nd one?
The drag is as tight as I dare for the gear. No idea on poundage setting.
that WATER LOOKS AMAZING! so clear! whats was the water temp that day?
Many many times I’ve heard my lite rig sing like that when I hooked an unexpected King Salmon , fishing for Pinks. It’s a wonderfully frightening sound!! I know , you know just what I mean!
