There have been modified Firmwares for some drives though so you could read Xbox game disks with a PC drive. Also, they aren't built into the motherboard. They are cryptographically married to the mainboard int the XBox though, so you can't just swap the drives between XBoxes. It’s because that is a dvd and cd disk reader if you look on the back of game disks specifically PS4 and Xbox they have code on the back of the disks that can only be ready by a PS4 disk reader or xbox
The drives in the console spin the discs at a special rpm proprietary to the console so the disc resonates at a certain frequency... that’s how it tells it’s a legitimate game for the console so if you use a USB disc drive it won’t even know what you’re trying to feed it regardless
most games for nintendo will be read by pc but has hidden partitions with some pointers to where data is, same for ps1 games X360 should work if the game is the backwards compatibility list, but mostly the digital version has some fw changes so it only can work digitally

You can’t take the disc drive out of a Xbox One S and put it in the discless Xbox One S. It does have the connection for the disc drive in the console, but Xbox One disc drives are married to the motherboard. Meaning you could not even take a disc drive out of a normal One S and replace a broken drive easily

i believe the discless Xbox has USB ports in the back. it’s always the top port that works and the bottom doesn’t. maybe that was the issue with the port on the front.
Since ps2 games are DVDs the native Bluray player app should read something if it is going to. The external drive is a DVD player so it SHOULDNT read Blurays. Probably won't read original Xbox one games either.

Two things first you need a blueray drive and the usb has to be 3.0 or 3.1 in order for it to work and read the device. Thats my tip to help you out.

From my experiences from attaching usb to xbox one, you usually have to format the new device. It could be different for the discless one.
