@@BerishaFatian i agree. Makarov is a true badass villain that does everything he can to achieve his goals. Shepherd is just a bastard fuck that betrays his squad to cover his mistakes.
I never realized the more power or comfortable micah got with the group he changed the way he talks to Arthur. He went from calling him Mr.Morgan to Arthur to Cowpoke to Blacklung
bro that's so annoying!! me and my girl were giga into that game, like im talking elden ring levels of into the game (elden ring is like the first SP game i've beaten in years, every game is boring af), but we couldn't finish it because like every other day the game would crash 5 minutes into every session sometimes it would take more, i remember once we hunted some crocodiles and shit, we were coming back, like 1h30 had passed, boom, crashed, black screen, froze my whole pc and lost my progress idk if game is still like that but that's a bummer
@@dv6342 not a hardware issue like, 100% sure never had anyy issues with any other game, and i know everyone says this but i know what im ttalking. i built my pc to play warzone, i had a rx580 8gb and a 3100 with 16gb. it was completely compatibility crashes, maybe the game is incompatible with amd gpus but idk, because i literally changed everything, motherboard cpu (5600x) gpu (6650xt) and 16 more ram, fresh install windows, reinstall RDR2, still happened And my whole pc would freeze most times, which, again, even tho it happened sometimes (stress testing etc), it never happened that consistently with games i just chalked it up to "game doesnt want me to play it" and gave up on it as for saving, doesnt red dead only let you save after you're done with combat / quests?
Most hated character in any game: the one you have to protect during some escort mission: "Hey look at that army of enemies. Don't mind me charging in alone while you are still reading the mission parameters."
#1 was deserved. I was PISSED when he erased the data. It was like a punch to the gut. But that story was told amazingly I haven’t had one that made me feel like that for a while.
The thing about Kamoshida is that he was actually based on news stories about things that were actually happening in Japan. In fact most of the examples of injustice and corruption in that game were real issues in Japanese society.
The best thing about Persona is that besides all magic, fantasy and shit the problems are very real and serious. The story really makes you think and question the world that we are living in and it's all hidden behind colorful fantasy background.
@@jakubmermel2828 are you saying that isn’t common? Because a lot of games do that. In fact. Like 80% of sci and fantasy games include realistic or real world problem
@@toptiertech7291 I agree, but with Persona you've got that super beatiful, colorful world with fantastic music. You've got teenage problems, like asking a girl out and it is all really joyful, while on the other side you are being hit with sexual abuse, blackmail and suicide. And it's just the tip of the iceberg. I know a lot of books and games are doing the same and I love a lot of them. The thing that plays well for Persona is how strong this contrast is, yet how natural and unforced it is introduced.
Gary from Bully should make the list if you ever made a second one. He's manipulative, constantly talks smack and backstabs everyone he's ever befriended, and pits everyone against each other for seemingly no reason
I think it was probably due to he's upbringing since he was in a shady boarding school, I always felt like the pupils there all had mysterious backstories and reasons for being there.
To this day one of my favorite rockstar games. Tons of fun, simple story but dynamic characters, I wish I could play that and a lot of other games for the first time again. But with my friends like I did before, best times
My suggestion: Kai Leng from Mass Effect 3. He is universally hated by the Mass Effect community fans for being an insufferable annoyance that "comes out on top" whenever you completely demolish him in a fight, which he also has to take breaks within the fight to recharge his shields. On top of that, he has an awful personality that unfounded and just plain cringe. Bioware tried to hype this character up with a graphic novel, but it wasn't marketed well and thus Kai Leng's inclusion and appearance as the main henchman of the Illusive Man had no history, which Mass Effect boasts trying to build upon, especially in Mass Effect 3. Not only that, but he was defeated by our terminally ill Drell assassin former crewmate, Thane Krios, and still tries to act high and mighty. He's just the worst.
Nah. He's painfully mediocre and completely forgettable. I feel like the hatred is relatively new, possibly due to the Mediocre Edition. (It's so far from Legendary given the mods that came out like Liara/Ashley Consistency, the lack of multiplayer I believe, the lack of some of the DLC... like c'mon. It ain't Legendary) MrHulthen or BigDan talking about it also promoted it. But honestly, he's too mediocre to be hated, imo. I had forgotten he even existed until that recent video.
If you want to spite him, max out lash with the “ignore shields” upgrade and rag doll him around the arena for a few minutes. It stops him from going to recharge his shields (he stops taking damage). You can vent all your frustration with him and just kinda use him as a punching bag.
Just finished HFW after replaying HZD and Ted Faro really boils my blood.. HFW was very depressing when I first saw the Horus on the landscape, thinking how the people living back then must have felt when they saw and fought those. And after hearing/reading all the logs on Faro's tomb I just wished that I got the chance to blast some arrows on his face... Kudos to the writers for creating this engaging story and excellent character building.. cant wait for the third installment and hopefully a DLC before that
I think a sub level, 1a, is the guy who believed he was Faro reincarnated. Even though his tribe idolized Faro, he still turned out to be an extant version to get a little revenge on. Without having any actual knowledge of Ted (just breadcrumbs gleaned from an inferior version of the focus), he actually epitomized everything Faro was. And when his ultimately deserved ending comes, it is a little ironic it is at the hand (or rather head) of Ted who does him in.
Haven't played 2 yet but when playing through the first game at first I thought of him being annoying but the thing that really pissed me off was he killing everyone in the room boy that made me so pissed off at the guy
@@burningrifle81023 you just wait… HFW takes faro to a whole other universe of disgusting and utterly vile. truly the most despicable human being you could even imagine to ever live 😅
The true identity of the Dollmaker from Alice Madness returns 2 should probably be on this list. Makes Kamoshida look like a nice caring adult by comparison. Bit of a niche game.
Every time I hear about how Sephiroth killing Aerith is so groundbreaking in JRPGs and it became a core memory for gamers around the world, I always picture how different the world would've been if more people chose The Legend of Dragoon instead of FF7 and that conversation was instead about Lloyd killing Lavitz and a couple discs later you having to fight his ghost.
See, I never played FF7, still haven't, Final Fantasy as a series just doesn't appeal to me for.. whatever reason, so my first experience with something akin to that is from the October Full Moon Operation in Persona 3, specifically the PSP version, Persona 3 Portable. If there was a dialogue option there, my Hamuko would have absolutely just been done, cause her birthday was just ruined.
it’s crazy how much I hated Ted Faro while playing the Horizon games without him being a real antagonist or seeing him on screen. learning of his fate was pretty cathartic lol
If it wasn’t for Ted, alloy wouldn’t exist. Kinda crazy, eh? His reasons for deleting Apollo was to prevent another extinction event too. Look what the Zeniths did with their Apollo.
@@kintero27 if Ted didn’t exist, the world wouldn’t have been eaten by the swarm and Apollo wouldn’t have been necessary. But I’m glad he does exist! great background/lore antagonist
@@bkg5494 technically Ted Faro did help reverse climate change thou. Kinda ironic how the guy who helped stop climate changed ended up ending life on earth.
@@kintero27 no it was to prevent future humans to learn his wrongdoings, delete Apollo would only cause human to make the same mistakes, Zenith were antagonistic because they were antagonistic to begin with.
Surprised but super glad to see Ted Faro at the top of this list - Ted is one of the most despicable characters I’ve ever known in a video game, and both Horizon games do a fantastic job in showing all the absolutely horrific things he did through audio/video logs without ever *technically* meeting him.
@Tommy Morris sad hfw got overshadowed by elden ring. I love elden ring. It's my second fav game of the year but still really sucks that it stole the attention from hfw
To be honest, I was expecting a kinda redeeming arc on HFW. Something like "Ted Faro deleted Apollo because the robots were about to hack it and then he went mad etc etc". Like, he was a terrible human being, but let me tell you another part of the story. I don't know, I was expecting a more adult, ambivalent, complex story. As it stands, Ted Faro is baaaaaaaad. Elisabeth Sobeck is gooooood. It feels kinda cheap.
Ava from Borderlands 3 was insufferable. She's whiny the entire time and never takes responsibility for what happens to Maya and then she just GIVEN the responsibility of leading the Crimson Raiders. She hasn't earned anything.
Almost word for word what me and a friend said about her There wasn't a redemption with who accepting what happened and taking blame She just blamed Lilith for not covering her mess up and then getting the top spot for no reason
Hiram Burrows from DisHonored definitely deserves a mention here (along with everything else that happens to him). Brought the rat plague to Dunwall just to kill off some poor people, then, when no one respected quarantines and the plague started effecting everyone (shocking and unrealistic, right?) he has the empress assassinated so he can assume power to cover up the mess he made. Literally no redeeming qualities at all.
The thing about Roy that bugged me was that he's coward in all sense of words in all the cutscenes but then he'd go toe to toe in firefights with criminals, so that was the biggest inconsistency for me.
Thebes was where Faro truly started thinking of himself as a pharoah, what with his assembling a harem and wanting to become the immortal ruler of mankind.
Haven't beaten Forbidden West yet but Ted Faros in Zero Dawn was such a gut punch. Especially the last moments of the Alpha's. Horizon Zero Dawn's secondary story that plays out through the audio logs you find always had me on the edge of my chair. Just listening to the end of humanity as they saw it was pretty cool and interesting to hear lol
Yeah, Ted had a special corner of Hell reserved for him. Unfortunately, it manifested here on Earth and while in some ways is cathartic, it is also disappointing that it couldn't have been worse. I still think he was let off the hook too kindly. But there is also the hope that he might still be suffering somewhere due to his misguided plans for immortality.
Kamoshida also drove one of his female students to attempt suicide as a result of the abuse. Ted Farro and that twist in Horizon Zero Dawn remains one of my favorites to this day. That "Oh shit" as he kills the rest of the project leadership and basically damns humanity was amazing.
For those who don't know Kamoshida is a commentary on the types of abusers and crimminals that are given the karma houdini treatment by Japan's judicial system.
Thank you for including Suikoden 2. It's one of my favorite RPG games of all time. Luca Blight not only slaughtered his under-age soldiers and invading villages. He also sacrificed a whole city citizen to a monster and killed his own father. And when he died, he says "I AM THE TRUE FACE OF EVIL" more than enough reasons to hate him 😂
Whoreson Junior from Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. I haven't spared him on any playthrough, ever. Honorable mention King Radovid V for being an absolutely crazy genocidal maniac.
Charles lee, from Assassins creed 3, defenitly one of the characters i wanted to eliminate the earlyest possible (not possible tho). funny that at the same time Haytham is problable one of the most likeable antagonist in games.
The most fucked up thing about Ted Faro Is that, unlike many other villains who took humanity at the brink of extintion based on a grater purpose, he didn't kill the world in the search of fullfiling a higher realisation but rather it was merely his ego and stupidity that doomed mankind.
honorable mentions: the Ceo from Horizon Forbidden West. He believes he is the reincarnation of Ted Faro (which is considered as the most noble thing in his tribe), and it shows.
Should've been Hojo instead of Sephiroth. When you see his backstory, Sephiroth wasn't a bad dude at first, but after learning what happened to him he sorta spirals into darkness, whereas Hojo was just a total monster the entire time.
Yeah the guy tricks his wife into going through painful and humiliating experiments, and at the end he doesn't even allow her to hold her baby. The guy is the worst.
Ava from Borderlands 3 NEEDS to be on this list! She’s by far the most Argumentative, Disrespectful, Rebellious little brat that’s ever lived. Her disregard towards others to “Play Hero” eventually leads to one of the main characters (HER MASTER!) getting murdered because she refuses to listen yet again. NOT ONLY THAT! She somehow managed to inherit her masters Siren powers BUT ALSO BECAME THE CAPTAIN OF THE CRIMSON RAIDERS!? She Instantly became my most hated character to date and has yet to be dethroned!
I agree that komoshida was a villain that kind of over shadowed all the others in the game. Everything from his dungeon being cool and medevil to him being a complete and total ass that directly affects your character, but also many of the other party members and friends. It was so well done that even though the dungeons keep on getting bigger and bigger, usually nelonging to people effecting more and more people, that first one was so much more intense because of how personal it is. All the others, although usually still fun, don't ever reach that same level. The runner up being the final deungeon in royal, and thats because it's an ending and dungeon that hinges all around multiple people you become friends with. All the other dungeons really only have 1 party member being effected, usually the one who's joinging the team, and it acts more as their back story
I agree with you Matt. Putting a villain that is so strong as the first encounter makes a lot of the others feel trivial by comparison, kinda feels like all of the later ones are trying to one up eachother in terms of how extreme it is. That being said, I consider P5R like a 9.5/10 game. Just something I noticed.
It was so personal for me, i didn't wanna do anything else but destroy this guy. The castle was annoying cuz i wanted to get to him as fast as possible
I think the Persona 5 devs were worried the concept of diving into peoples heads and changing their personalities might be a hard ethical sell, so they went the extra mile and made it so the first was villain despicable enough to ensure EVERYONE would be on-board with the Phantom Thieves M.O.
Not me. I wish he could have seen what happened and repent. Alloy was garbage in FW. She thinks she could stand up to men but in reality, she couldn’t take it.
I was only disappointed I couldn't end him myself. It would have been hilarious if he regained consciousness not only to a deformed mutant body but for the first person he saw to have the face of Elizabet Sobek
Especially since he's responsible for Sephiroth in the first place. I don't actually ever remember seeing a FF7 fan say they hate Sephiroth, but we all definitely hate that punkass Hojo
Luca Blight is deliciously, savagely, and demonstrably evil, and I can't fault myself for liking his evilness. He just wants to destroy b/c he loves the bloodlust. Even when you fight him, you have to fight him not once, not twice, but thrice, back to back to back b/c he's that unbelievably strong. And his demise was cathartic.
DUDE LITERALLY TOOK A FULL ON VOLLEY FROM 300 ARCHERS. DIRECT HIT. FOUGHT 3 PARTIES OF 6 OF YOUR STRONGEST CHARACTERS, FOUGHT OFF OTHER GROUPS IN BETWEEN THISE SCENES ( subtext from the dialogue says he did ) AND THEN STILL ALMOST KILLS EVERYONE WHEN HE GETS CORNERED. After all of that. Luca Blight may have been hands down one of the most pure evil and genocidal villains in all of JRPG history, BUT HE WAS AN ABSOLUTE BADASS. That entire scene and everything leading up to it is masterclass storytelling, exposition, and writing. They really made you feel like Luca was just not human. I’m still convinced he was some sort of demon spawn. But I think they later revealed that he was under the influence and control of the Divine Beast Rune. So no wonder he was such a bloodthirsty animal who didn’t value life. It kind of wasn’t exactly his fault. I think the beast rune amplified the darkness that was already inside him.
this is the only list where someone has mentioned my most hated character of all time Luca of Suikoden II. I had a feeling like no one has ever played this masterpiece of a game
I liked his speech after he kills his father, it gives you a glimpse into his reasoning especially after it was implied that his mother gets attacked while he was forced to watch and his father ran away and left them
I have played it and yes, I was so happy to see Luca on this list as to me he is the #1 bastard to out-bastard all other bastards. I can't even remember who the actual final boss was, as Luca Blight couldn't be topped.
Killing him requires a 3 stage boss fight at a VERY EARLY POINT in the game which made all that prep work to achieve victory against him WORTH IT. Now THAT'S a villain. Final boss? Meh, I can take it on with just 4 party members on a Tuesday.
I found your channel by chance and the fact that Luca Blight and Ted Farrow are #2 and #1, respectively, on this list makes me an immediate fan. The Suikoden franchise is one of my favorite in gaming and I LOVE the Horizon games.
I know you showed him in the opening but... I never felt a more cathartic video game moment than when killing Handsome Jack. The guy killed one of your friends right in front of you (which also led to Tina's issues from Assault on Dragon Keep, which was a total tear-jerker), he used his own daughter to gain power to the point where she wanted you to kill her, kidnapped and tortured another of your friends, he basically killed his way up to the CEO position of a major company (don't forget the difference between "choking" and "strangulation"), all because he needed more and more power and control, all while being an absolutely egotistical jackass. I'll still never forget the first time I beat the story in Borderlands 2 and he was there helpless and still spouting his ego-driven drivel, never being willing to accept that *he* was the problem all along, cursing out the entire party... I legit just pulled out a pistol, looked him in the eyes, went "Fuck you" and put one right in the middle of his forehead. And the feeling there was *incredibly* cathartic. This guy who ruined so many lives was finally gone and there was at least a chance that things might get better... at least a bit. After all, BL is still a pretty freaking messed up universe.
The thing is that Handsome Jack was a well-thoughtout villain who was backed up hy a great voice actor, and the entire narrative of Borderlands 2 was highly self-aware that you're not supposed to empathize with an unrepentant power hungry coward like Handsome Jack...
@@philithegamer8265 Agreed. I still say he's one of the great villains of video gaming. Well designed, well written, well performed. And every time you think he's going to show some humanity, he flips it on you.
and you know that Handsome Jack wasn't like that right? People really ought to play Pre-Sequel. For me main baddie was Lilith. It's because of her that Jack turned out how he is now. He is most tragic character of Borderlands series. Yes, what he did in BL2 made me hate him, but Pre-Sequel made me like him and understand him. He is after all the perfect embodiment of quote: "you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain"
You forgot Eltariel from Middle Earth: Shadow of War. She does a complete 180 on Talion out of nowhere, betrays him to his horrible fate, and becomes the very thing she swore to destroy...all with no real consequences other than getting a couple fingers chopped off when fighting Sauron. And then she gets her own damn DLC, which I played through once and hated the entire time. She is by far the absolute worst character in an otherwise brilliant series. They should have taken her "screen time" and maybe given Baranor and Idril a longer story arc, as they exit the game way too soon.
I'm one of thr few who liked Wltariuel as a character, but I liked Pretty much everyone in the Shadow of Morder series, and eltsriuel is definitely at the bottom of the list. And Talion is at the tip where he belongs I would have preferred far more Baranor and Idril
@@weirdmusicmixmaster I would have liked that. They could have brought back a couple of the Gondorian sergeants who we see during the Siege of Minas Ithil. I always found Idril a very likeable character who could have been given more development. She's strong, but still vulnerable and flawed, making her more relatable and sympathetic.
I'm playing this game for the first time. It took me a long time to realize that there is literally no end to those quests so I finally decided to forget it and head on down to Diamond City, which I probably should have done a long time ago
Oh my God, Ted Faro. I've never hated somebody fictious so much before. And no, he wasn't misguided, at least I believe he just doesn't want the future mankind know what his part is in bringing down humanity, so he just decided to screw with mankind again.
Skizzo from Days Gone, definitely deserves Number 1 spot on a list like this. He’s one of the worst characters I’ve experienced in a game. If you played it you understand
Gary from bully hated him even before the betrayal And Luther from the warriors he’s the one who shot cyrus and blamed it on the warriors and got every gang in the city onto you. The warriors was such an underrated game 😔
oooh that's a damn good choice. Also add Chloe Price of "Life Is Strange" to that list, seeing how she's basically the same character, but the story itself is blatantly protective of her protagonistic stance.
11:50 "Who else could be number one but this guy?" Uhh... Idk ... The guy at number 10? The one who is a literal rat the whole game, a burden , a double crosser and a liar?
I feel you but Micah didn't sacrifice the entire planet >.> We all felt what Micah did. It was fucking personal, no doubt about that, but he ain't Farrow
Farrow fills me with the same irrational anger and existential sadness as the real burning of the library of Alexandria. Like all of that knowledge means nothing because a child destroyed it
If there was a part two to this video, I would want Khotun Khan & Ryuzo from Ghost of Tsushima on the list. I hated those guys so much! One is a villain that loves to conquer, be extremely cruel, and give Jin a hard time. The other is a backstabbing “friend” willing to betray everybody.
I could kind of understand Ryuzos motivations though. He was loyal to his men who had put their lives on the line under him, and he wasn’t as evil as Khotun, as he did genuinely feel remorse for his actions
Nah. Khotun Khan was just doing what any other leader used to do back in the days. He is not that bad.even ryuzo.. Desperate times make people do desperate things
@@billydinkman4918 yeah I understand that it was a shit situation but to even betray your own old friend is scummy. I just hate the idea of someone stabbing another friend in the back lol
I 100% agree with Kamoshida being on this list for his sheer level of assholery and douchebaggery, though a thing to mention is that the other palace rulers only typically affect the lives of the thieves you recruit along the way until, you, the player, get involved. We get to see more of Kamoshida's attitude personally, and how he wants to screw Joker and Ryuji over from the get-go. Madarame? Chill until you literally find the thing to expose him. Kaneshiro? We talk with him once personally, then he just harasses Makoto. A creep, sure, but not Kamoshida. Okummura is a great villain to hate, as he represents the few extremely rich people that got to where they are by stepping on the people below them. His turn around in the palace keeps him from my #1 here. Sae...while not a fan of her profession, I don't see her so much a villain as much as a victim of stress. That shit wears on a person. Then we get to Shido...The guy that literally got us here in the first place. I'm a little torn in regards to him, as it almost feels to me like he was far more evil in reality than his Shadow suggested, until you fight, of course. Shido could be here instead, and I'm curious how many people agree.
I agree with you a lot, but i think you are understating the vileness of Shido a bit. To push a delusion that far outward from the palace takes a special kind of malevolence. It's not just enough for those types to have more than any one else, but everyone else must have less. He's not just the ruler of the ark he pulled together for his own selfish desires, but also simultaneously he will work to make everyone else suffer and die. The backdrop of his palace isn't just the landscape he imagines himself in, but part of the nightmare he intends to inflict on everyone. He will cause the sinking of Japan, because that is an inseparable part of his desire. Absolutely 100% evil.
@@jackdimm don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to downplay Shido's bullshit at all. He is an evil individual who does very evil things, no doubt. But his shadow, unlike all of the other palace rulers, seems to be the more reasonable and real one until you start fighting. Like every other palace owner to that point was a straight up asshole or further exemplifying their 'sin' in reality and in the palaces. While Shido is an obvious piece of shit in reality, his shadow almost feels more grounded, and that he genuinely cares for the people of Japan. Sure he's using the people as mounts for the first few phases, but it's not until their defeat that he says anything bad about them. Idk if this makes sense, it's conflicting for me for sure lol
I think Volgin gets some redemption in MGS V. The suffering he endures as The Man on Fire is immeasurable, and I think it softened my look of him slightly. Still a villain, but it added a dimension missing in Snake Eater,
When you talked about dragon age, i was usre you would speak of loghain, who i love as a character, but you instantly shifted away to an actual hated character so props to you for understanding loghain
@@Mke39 Blaming his unhinged mindset on his head injury disrespects the characters progression through the game. He got more and more unhinged during the game and it started from the Blackwater Heist when he shot that random girl
The most old-school hated character I have on my list is Blue from OG Pokemon Red & Blue. Yes, in the grand scheme of things, he wasn't really a bad guy. He didn't do anything nefarious, he was just annoying. No matter what you did, he always picked the Pokemon that was better than yours, he always beat you to the punch defeating every gym ahead of you. When you finally get through the elite 4 & think you're the champion you are then told you must fight Blue because he already became champion before you. To top it all off, he always ended his conversations with "smell you later" which childhood me hated.
Kinda surprised that Abby from TLOU2 isnt in here. I get she's a divisive character and not everybody hates her, but she still pissed off so many players.
Abby? I know you’re supposed to sympathize with her once you know the whole story, but most people still hate her. If the game allowed it, a lot of players would have killed her off multiple times. The thumbnail actually had me thinking slightly different than how you guys went with it. While I wouldn’t say I Hate her, Aloy has many players that really don’t like her. She is very boring and her only personality trait is, she is just better than everyone. Yeah, not very likable.
A lot of people still really love abby. That's an important thing to remember. For every vocal person that loathes her there's a few silent ones that enjoy her character.
They didn't want to start another war in the comments. 2 types of people in that argument. The people that absolutely hate Abby and the people that refuse to see why people hate Abby.
@@PastelN01r Nice try, but its the opposite way, for every silent one who likes her, there are multiple who hate her, we are not the minority here, pal
Yeah, i really thought she would be on the list too....I didn't hate her but I also didnt really like not having a consistent protaganist....You understand why she does what she does but sometimes a simple good versus bad story is more appealing..I liked Joel and wanted him to be 'good'...I know that was kind of the writers point but yeah.. Abby is a controversial character to say the least
Forget Sephiroth, I hated Cait Sith. Dude betrays you and then blackmails you into keeping him in the party. When he's forced into your party I just let him die in combat and never revive him.
sephiroth? really? not hojo? I mean, the guy performed horrific experiments on humans, animals, unborn children (how he created sephiroth) gaslighted lucrecia, murdered vincent... and yes sephiroth killed aerith, but hojo basically made her and her mothers lives hell for years. honestly hojo would have been my pick for the number 1 spot.
I’m extremely shocked I didn’t see Abby from LOU 2 on this list. A majority of the fanbase hates this game because of her. I’m in the rare minority who likes the game & wasn’t bothered by Abby but I definitely know how much her character impacted so many who played this game for the worst
I still have a crush on Aerith. Part of me hopes there’s a way to save her in the remake, but another part of me doesn’t want them screwing up the storyline, so she’s going to have to die.
OMG YOU LEGEND! Luca from Suikoden 2 is my most hated character in all of gamedome. Also Pilika's suffering because of Luca left her mute and traumatized is one of those things I can't ever forget. Tears of rage and sadness roll from my eyes still, decades after finishing that game. Suikoden 2 story is one of the most epic RPG stories I have ever played. Totally recommend it.
DUUUUUDE thank you so much for that 5 seconds of Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals clip during the FF7 bit. My childhood game right there. Just brought me back 25 years. Hell yeah that was wonderfully unexpected.
Even Earl Howel’s son hated him. If you recruit the son in DA:A and talk to him (I think you gotta be noble) he explains how his life was as he grew up. I kinda hoped to see Chef Irons from Resident Evil bc oh man that dude is horrible human being.
I pick the most hated villain Kefka over Sephiroth. Kefka is a maniac, very evil and does whatever he wants. He is psycho maniac, he poisoned the river water and killed a lot of civilians, controlling the main character, killing his emperor, destroying the world and doing whatever he wanted and abusing his godly powers. He has a very crazy maniac laugh too!
you say Sephiroth is hateable but I think that goes to Hojo for me. also 2 more really hatealble characters for are from another JRPG, Duke Cayenne and Albera from Trails of Cold Steel
Keith David! Not only did he voice Julius is SR:1, but he somehow managed to become the vice president in SR:4 and voiced HIMSELF! What am I saying, nobody can hate Keith David
Sui-Do-Ken? Sui-Ko-Den, bruh! Anyway, legit thought by the thumbnail that Aloy was gonna be #1 and was going to back that up, lol. She was alright in HZD but in the sequel she was really easy to dislike.
Good video. There are many, but I'm thinking of two off the top of my head: Rosh Penin, from Jedi Academy, and Vaughan Kendells, from Dragon Age: Origins. Penin is a fellow Jedi apprentice who happens to be an absolute douchebag with no redeeming qualities who sends lethal robots against you while training because he thought it was a competition. He bragged anytime he thought he thought he had an advantage on you. He then turned to the dark side (of course he did) and attacked you not in a single combat, but three to one. Later on, he sends you a message beging for help, but it was a trap (of course it was). After overcoming the trap, you find him and he is begging for mercy, swearing he turned away from the dark side. You're about to kill him, but your master, through telepathy, urges you not to and assures you Penin is telling the truth. Sparing him or not is what determines you staying in the light or turning to the dark side permanently. Every action by this character is crafted to make the player loathe him. Even a lawful good player will likely kill that POS. Vaughan Kendells is your first antagonist if you choose the City Elf origin. He's the son of the arl of the capital of the kingdom. He and his goons, who are city soldiers, crash into your double wedding (you and your cousin marrying two other people in a shared ceremony) and kidnapp several young women to r**e them, including the brides (which, depending on your gender choice, means either your bride or yourself). If you're a man, you and your cousin sneak into the castle to rescue them. If you're a woman, you manage to rescue yourself just before your groom and his cousin come. Either way, you massacre every soldier on your way to the room where Vaughan and his goons are about to r**e one of the women. The goons taunt you but Vaughan notices you're all covered in blood which is is clearly not yours. After killing him, you're recruited to the Grey Wardens to escape death penalty, and after that you meet the king, who is a kind but incompetent young ruler who greets you joyfully and when he learns you're from the same city as him, he asks how things are going over there. You have the option to answer to his face "I killed an arl's son for r**ing my friend".
Preston from fallout 4 is my most hated when talking about I just hate him being in the game lol. I don't care about what he does, I just hate his quests and needy attitude
I just started a new game in FO4 and I'm totally avoiding Concord and Preston. I want to see how hard it will be to take out the Institute, have all settlements up and running, THEN meet him. That said, Kellogg is not very high on my favorite people list either.
Asahi from FFXIV. I don’t know how much of a worse character you can get in a story than him. Works for a genocidal maniac, kills his family, betrays basically EVERYONE, literally there is nothing redeeming about this guy. 10/10 punchable face too.
@@LunaliBrighteyes Nah I felt for Fandaniel in the end and really empathized with him. I don’t understand how you can hate him after finishing Endwalker.
I know right and thinking that he could’ve put more rooms for more survivors he put a pathetic statue of himself the most narcissistic video game character I’ve ever hated/met
I think the Elusive Man from the Mass Effect games is a much better fit for the number 1 spot. Even trying use reaper technology on his own soldiers to gain advantages. Only until he finds out too late the he would never be able to control the Reapers since he was Indoctrinated long ago in one of the comics/visual books.
That makes him a sympathetic villain as though he did horrific things, he did it out of his ideal to help establish humanity as a powerhouse in the galactic scale. Coupled with being indoctrinated and can be woken up at the end and kills himself makes him much more sympathetic than say, udina or kai lang for me
Ava from borderlands 3 was nothing but nails on a chalkboard when she opened her mouth and an utterly worthless pain in the ass that got beloved characters killed
My number one is Abby from The Last of Us 2, followed by Micah from RDR2. Including Sephiroth, I just don't get. Hojo was much more hateable overall. Arl Rendon Howe is easily the worst in DA: Origins, but I want to point out, that Anora, comes pretty close. Lautrec has nothing on Yurt from Demon's Souls, who could do so much more damage. But I still hate Patches the Bastard more. Also, I want to point out few other characters that are so easily to hate: Emily - Until Dawn Ava - Borderlands 3 (even more than Tyreen) Radovid - Witcher 3 Skizzo - Days Gone Theseus - Hades Eltariel - Middle-Earth: Shadow of War ...and so many Rockstar characters that they would fill entire list.
Man I agree with this list, especially Theseus (annoying cunt), and I'm going to get hate for this, but I didn't hate Abby, but I can 100 percent understand why everyone hates her.
I'm shocked that Comstock or Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite (yes she's a villain, she couldn't handle that because in X amount of timelines Booker became Comstock so instead of allowing the current version of her to live and the current version of Booker to live, she drowns him.) isn't on here, let alone Ansem the Wise from Kingdom Hearts. You know who else I reallllyyyy hated, does anyone remember Pandak "Baby" Panay? He was a SOB that's for sure! He mocked you sooooo much!
Aeris (I refuse to call her Aerith) HAD to die. It’s how her prayers reached the planet and activated Holy (not that Holy was much help by the time it frigging arrived). I stand by my claim that the ONLY reason we got the Remake’s BS “change the future” storyline is because the main writer is still salty that they killed her off.
General Shepherd from MW2.. he is just despicable. And the fact that you trusted him before as a leader, makes him worse
From MW2, I'd say sgt. Foley is the most annoying. You don't see Shepherd that much in the game.
Nah Makarov
@@CursedLegend261 Makarov is a badass villain. He's merciless, smart and dangerous.
@@BerishaFatian i agree. Makarov is a true badass villain that does everything he can to achieve his goals.

Wait Call of Duty? It's not even out yet
I never realized the more power or comfortable micah got with the group he changed the way he talks to Arthur. He went from calling him Mr.Morgan to Arthur to Cowpoke to Blacklung
The character was played perfectly, like the rest of them.
It’s the way good games should be written.
bro that's so annoying!!
me and my girl were giga into that game, like im talking elden ring levels of into the game (elden ring is like the first SP game i've beaten in years, every game is boring af), but we couldn't finish it because like every other day the game would crash 5 minutes into every session
sometimes it would take more, i remember once we hunted some crocodiles and shit, we were coming back, like 1h30 had passed, boom, crashed, black screen, froze my whole pc and lost my progress
idk if game is still like that but that's a bummer

it was completely compatibility crashes, maybe the game is incompatible with amd gpus but idk, because i literally changed everything, motherboard cpu (5600x) gpu (6650xt) and 16 more ram, fresh install windows, reinstall RDR2, still happened
And my whole pc would freeze most times, which, again, even tho it happened sometimes (stress testing etc), it never happened that consistently with games
i just chalked it up to "game doesnt want me to play it" and gave up on it
as for saving, doesnt red dead only let you save after you're done with combat / quests?
Most hated character in any game: the one you have to protect during some escort mission: "Hey look at that army of enemies. Don't mind me charging in alone while you are still reading the mission parameters."
Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite is an exception. She’s actually helpful.
Ah, the Scrappy Doo approach.
Jenkins, Leroy Jenkins
@@jakubmermel2828 you just described like 300 of those Japanese story games 😂😂

Gary from Bully should make the list if you ever made a second one. He's manipulative, constantly talks smack and backstabs everyone he's ever befriended, and pits everyone against each other for seemingly no reason
I think it was probably due to he's upbringing since he was in a shady boarding school, I always felt like the pupils there all had mysterious backstories and reasons for being there.
@@blueninjanoname7338 Nah Gary was a NUTjob my man, not a product of his upbringing. The game made that pretty clear too me
Good stories make GREAT games.
Good call. Gary was the worst.
I had forgotten he even existed until that recent video.
fr i remember spending so much time on him and the banshees
If you want to spite him, max out lash with the “ignore shields” upgrade and rag doll him around the arena for a few minutes. It stops him from going to recharge his shields (he stops taking damage). You can vent all your frustration with him and just kinda use him as a punching bag.
That was for Thane, you son of a bish.
I relished the f*** out of that line.

@@Riftsrunner As Sylons said, the Quen are fools.

@@burningrifle81023 you just wait… HFW takes faro to a whole other universe of disgusting and utterly vile. truly the most despicable human being you could even imagine to ever live 😅
I still feel like we got cheated out of a bossfight in Faros tomb.
The true identity of the Dollmaker from Alice Madness returns 2 should probably be on this list. Makes Kamoshida look like a nice caring adult by comparison. Bit of a niche game.
Explain that video game
Every time I hear about how Sephiroth killing Aerith is so groundbreaking in JRPGs and it became a core memory for gamers around the world, I always picture how different the world would've been if more people chose The Legend of Dragoon instead of FF7 and that conversation was instead about Lloyd killing Lavitz and a couple discs later you having to fight his ghost.
LoD is better than ff7 imo combat is so much better...

Yeah! Take that rich white people!
Couldn't agree more. I just finished the mission where Faro meets his end. HZD+HFW is a great story. Great games.
THIS!!
Ava from Borderlands 3 was insufferable. She's whiny the entire time and never takes responsibility for what happens to Maya and then she just GIVEN the responsibility of leading the Crimson Raiders. She hasn't earned anything.
Agreed.
Agreed
This should be top suggestion for the next list of Hated Characters
Almost word for word what me and a friend said about her
There wasn't a redemption with who accepting what happened and taking blame
She just blamed Lilith for not covering her mess up and then getting the top spot for no reason
Ava was hyper annoying but come on... there are way worse examples
Going through the elysium and listening to the personal audios of the last survivors with Farro was haunting
Yeah. Thebes was a nightmare. I knew it would be bad. I knew it. But good gods, nothing could’ve prepared me for that.
Thebes. Elysium was a different facility.
Thebes was where Faro truly started thinking of himself as a pharoah, what with his assembling a harem and wanting to become the immortal ruler of mankind.
@@coltonwilliams4153 Indeed. Good God it was horrific.
And it's a game about hunting down Robo Animals and Dinos.
Oh God, the edited and redacted audios of the "Soldiers" in the name of "Enduring victory" was what horrified me the most.
P5 was a good social commentary in general.
Aerith dying broke my heart, but mostly because she had my best materia equipped.
Thank you for including Suikoden 2. It's one of my favorite RPG games of all time. Luca Blight not only slaughtered his under-age soldiers and invading villages. He also sacrificed a whole city citizen to a monster and killed his own father. And when he died, he says "I AM THE TRUE FACE OF EVIL" more than enough reasons to hate him 😂
The jump between all of these combined to Ted Faro is astronomical
Whoreson Junior from Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. I haven't spared him on any playthrough, ever.
Honorable mention King Radovid V for being an absolutely crazy genocidal maniac.
I hated King Radovid V with a burning hatred
Yeah, walking up the stairs at his house to find him makes me sick every single time.
Good God I hated WJ with a passion. Needless to say he went straight to hell, no reason to even consider sparing him.
Charles lee, from Assassins creed 3, defenitly one of the characters i wanted to eliminate the earlyest possible (not possible tho). funny that at the same time Haytham is problable one of the most likeable antagonist in games.

You know a video game character is truly hated when there is an entire subreddit dedicated to hate him.
Yeah, Hojo is the one who's intended to be the unlikable villain.
Yeah the guy tricks his wife into going through painful and humiliating experiments, and at the end he doesn't even allow her to hold her baby. The guy is the worst.
What about Kefka?
Yeah thats true, Hojo was an Asshole Monster
@Marcus C have you been around FFVI's fandom? They love Kefka, he's a cool character to like, not somebody who's cool to hate.
If its just video game characters and not specifically villains, then Naseem from skyrim should definitely make the list.
Isn't Delphine the most hated character from that game?
Honestly, he's just laughable. Not someone who actually urks me.
The only joy I get from Naseem is when you join the companions you have a chance to have a mission you beat him up
Ava from Borderlands 3 NEEDS to be on this list!
We all had a crush on Aerith. And then again during the remake
Could not have said it better. I played all the games he reviewed here and to me he is number 1. Absolutely hated this dude
Honestly the only other villains that I feel are as strong a villain as Kamoshida in P5R are Shido and the new palace ruler in Royal.
Just finished rdr 2 for the 2nd time, I knew Micah was going to be on this list
It would have been a crime, if Micah wasn't in this list.
While playing through the story of Horizon Forbidden West, it kind felt satisfying seeing what Ted Faro's fate turned out to be.

I'm always happy when someone brings up suikoden it's such a gem. Also don't forget duel technically makes it 4 times
Yea, Gameranx does dig out obscure stuff, too. That's what I like about them. It's not all obvious mainstream stuff.
I think my brother had/has this game. Is it on PS2?
I found your channel by chance and the fact that Luca Blight and Ted Farrow are #2 and #1, respectively, on this list makes me an immediate fan. The Suikoden franchise is one of my favorite in gaming and I LOVE the Horizon games.
Thanks for including Luka Blight, such a badass bad guy. Love Suikoden II!
One of the biggest douches in gaming too.
I would say I was surprised he wasn't on the list...but then I saw the list. He'd have made top 20 no problem, tho.
you're so cool
The thing is that Handsome Jack was a well-thoughtout villain who was backed up hy a great voice actor, and the entire narrative of Borderlands 2 was highly self-aware that you're not supposed to empathize with an unrepentant power hungry coward like Handsome Jack...

and you know that Handsome Jack wasn't like that right? People really ought to play Pre-Sequel. For me main baddie was Lilith. It's because of her that Jack turned out how he is now.
He is most tragic character of Borderlands series. Yes, what he did in BL2 made me hate him, but Pre-Sequel made me like him and understand him.
He is after all the perfect embodiment of quote: "you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain"

And then she gets her own damn DLC, which I played through once and hated the entire time. She is by far the absolute worst character in an otherwise brilliant series. They should have taken her "screen time" and maybe given Baranor and Idril a longer story arc, as they exit the game way too soon.

Yo I forgot about him! That dude was an ass, he got his in the end. Hallelujah
Skizzo was one of the worst
He's so memorable I completely forgot about him, man days gone was utter dog shit.
skizzo an op
Played the game but have no idea who that was. Very forgettable game.
I lowkey thought no.1 will be the dog in the duck hunting game again 💀💀🤭🤭
The amounts of times iv tried to shoot that god damn dog and that stupid ass laugh
Damn I absolute love your videos and your storytelling, please give us more!
Thanks 🤝
Gary from bully hated him even before the betrayal
And Luther from the warriors he’s the one who shot cyrus and blamed it on the warriors and got every gang in the city onto you. The warriors was such an underrated game 😔
I was sure Gary from the game Bully would be on here....i HATED that dweeb lol
Okay glad I'm not the only one that immediately thought of him.
oooh that's a damn good choice. Also add Chloe Price of "Life Is Strange" to that list, seeing how she's basically the same character, but the story itself is blatantly protective of her protagonistic stance.
Ohhhh beating him up at the end was just 👌
That little.......
I'm low-key kind of upset that they used a COD clip in the beginning and then didn't include Shepard 😤
Shepard is easily the character I have hated the most in all the CoD games I've played
@@Jabholt013 Same! No other COD villain will ever surpass him in terms of how much he's hated
11:50 "Who else could be number one but this guy?"
Uhh... Idk ... The guy at number 10? The one who is a literal rat the whole game, a burden , a double crosser and a liar?
Faro doomed humanity to extinction. Then he cursed the new humans with ignorance.
I feel you but Micah didn't sacrifice the entire planet >.>
We all felt what Micah did. It was fucking personal, no doubt about that, but he ain't Farrow
*Faro* but yeah what they said; damnation of Humanity essentially TWICE greater than criminals lacking honor/loyalty amongst themselves lol
@@sobversion3 thanks for that correction. I felt my error in the force lol
Then there's good old "Do you get to the cloud district very often?". Nazeem must be the most hated character in all of Skyrim.
Khotun Khan yeah, but I'd say RyoU even higher for the shit he pulled.
Khotun Kahn was a great character tho

Suikoden 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, I never thought that I'd see it pop up on a list in 2022
👌🏼👍🏼
I wish it was available to play on modern consoles. It's the only one I haven't played. I even played the DS game!
Oh, you mean "doofus?" Or "stupid?" Or any of the other names players used to give him until Nintendo stopped allowing it?
@@oldspice051 his name was "AssFart" in my game.
@@Monsuco Nice. Man, those were the days.
What I find most annoying about him is his obnoxiousness. He always gloats about his achievements, even during a hostage situation.
It felt so good melting his team with legendaries in red look
Kinda surprised that Abby from TLOU2 isnt in here. I get she's a divisive character and not everybody hates her, but she still pissed off so many players.
Interesting list, solid video.☘️
Glad you enjoyed!
Don't know a single person who hates Sephiroth, despite his actions 😂
I have no idea how she isn’t #1 on any list about hated characters
Man i am so glad Roy Earle gets mentioned he's a very underrated villain to say the least.
Forget Sephiroth, I hated Cait Sith. Dude betrays you and then blackmails you into keeping him in the party. When he's forced into your party I just let him die in combat and never revive him.
Caitsith is just the Jar Jar Binks of the franchise.
@@philithegamer8265 I like Jar Jar way more than I like Cait Sith.
Really great video here 👍
sephiroth? really?
Much love from the Suikoden community! Wondering if this is the franchise Konami have on it's sleeve for coming TGS
I’m extremely shocked I didn’t see Abby from LOU 2 on this list. A majority of the fanbase hates this game because of her. I’m in the rare minority who likes the game & wasn’t bothered by Abby but I definitely know how much her character impacted so many who played this game for the worst
He was only disliked for being trans.
Kai lang from Mass Effect 3 😑 worst character in the game franchises, mad annoying
I enjoyed shanking him in the end . it felt good
DUUUUUDE thank you so much for that 5 seconds of Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals clip during the FF7 bit.
“Can’t get more hateable than that” Proceeds to list 6 more hateable characters
you say Sephiroth is hateable but I think that goes to Hojo for me.
also 2 more really hatealble characters for are from another JRPG, Duke Cayenne and Albera from Trails of Cold Steel
Exactly. Hojo and Rufus are more hateable
Sephiroth was ultimately just the creature, with Hojo as his Frankenstein.
Don't forget Campanella
@@wuapo3462 Chronology wise you need to play Zero and Azure 1st cause Cold Steel 1 & 2 is taking place same time as Azure
Hojo was waaaay more hateable!
Hey GameRanx , I absolutely love the channel . You guys are great at what you do but, please give us a heads up on a spoiler alert for games .. 👍
Well some characters from Saints Row definitely earned a spot on this list.
Dex, for an example
Yeah. All the characters from the new game should be on the list.
Keith David! Not only did he voice Julius is SR:1, but he somehow managed to become the vice president in SR:4 and voiced HIMSELF!
What am I saying, nobody can hate Keith David
Kinsey for instance. So tired of her whiney voice
@@mtnman8783 I loved her
Micah should be the top of the list. What were you guys thinking lol
Micah should be number one never physically wanted to hurt a character so much
I haven't even played the game (only watched) and hard agree.
Bet he's a great villain.
Preston from fallout 4 is my most hated when talking about I just hate him being in the game lol. I don't care about what he does, I just hate his quests and needy attitude
Glad mods help with that
"Another settlement needs your help! Here I'll mark it on your map."
I just started a new game in FO4 and I'm totally avoiding Concord and Preston. I want to see how hard it will be to take out the Institute, have all settlements up and running, THEN meet him.
That said, Kellogg is not very high on my favorite people list either.
I’ve never heard of anyone hating sephiroth, he is one of the most beloved villains in gaming.
Holy shit, I’m becoming an adult. I don’t know half of these characters.
And I have trophies from video game trivia competitions.
You haven't played Suikoden?
@@philithegamer8265 It’s a Russian aircraft
Asahi from FFXIV. I don’t know how much of a worse character you can get in a story than him. Works for a genocidal maniac, kills his family, betrays basically EVERYONE, literally there is nothing redeeming about this guy. 10/10 punchable face too.
Right. I feel like even Zenos has more reasons to do what he is doing than that brat.
His entire arc was a trainwreck (the part in Stormblood anyway).
Least got a good boss fight out of it.
Honorable mention for Fandaniel as well.
@@LunaliBrighteyes Nah I felt for Fandaniel in the end and really empathized with him. I don’t understand how you can hate him after finishing Endwalker.
That statue of Fero in Thebes was incredibly effective at making me dislike Ted Fero more than I already did.
It was egregious and Devs didn't have to draw that... Much like hat on a hat
I know right and thinking that he could’ve put more rooms for more survivors he put a pathetic statue of himself the most narcissistic video game character I’ve ever hated/met
Haven’t finished but I’m sure Navi is on the list lol
Even Miyamoto hated her.
LISTEN!
Also, I want to point out few other characters that are so easily to hate:
Emily - Until Dawn
Ava - Borderlands 3 (even more than Tyreen)
Radovid - Witcher 3
Skizzo - Days Gone
Theseus - Hades
Eltariel - Middle-Earth: Shadow of War
...and so many Rockstar characters that they would fill entire list.
Man I agree with this list, especially Theseus (annoying cunt), and I'm going to get hate for this, but I didn't hate Abby, but I can 100 percent understand why everyone hates her.
Same dude I hate Arl Rendon Howe so much . In my first playthrough I slutered all his family and his son in the DLC 😂
Hojo is vile. I was just screwing around with him last night. Jacka$$.
WOW! I just beat RDR2 and was thinking.. Damn! I really hope Micah is on this list 😆
Think he should have been much higher tho
Aeris (I refuse to call her Aerith) HAD to die. It’s how her prayers reached the planet and activated Holy (not that Holy was much help by the time it frigging arrived).
I stand by my claim that the ONLY reason we got the Remake’s BS “change the future” storyline is because the main writer is still salty that they killed her off.
Genuinely surprised handsome Jack wasn't here. I've rarely hated any character more than him on borderlands 2 lol
You love to hate him though.
Handsome Jack from borderlands 2. He’s the perfect balance of sadistic, delusional, and humorous.
Yeah but hes a love to hate character imo.
