      Yeah, and how many female reacters are simping for him :J
      I wonder if they did the same if they met him in real life (not knowing who he is). Because I'm pretty sure there's a lot of passionate nerds all around and yet they don't get that much love.

    Some funny trivia about the movie was that the production staff would wear T-shirts with the text "Atlantis: less songs, more explosions". It is no wonder that the movie has the highest killcount of any Disney movie.
    But although there are less songs, I feel obligated to say that the soundtrack has so many bangers.
    And as a final fun tidbit, the Atlantean language was created by the same guy that made the Klingon language from Star trek and the king is played by Leonard Nimoy who played Spock.

    • @zacheryschmidt2611
      @zacheryschmidt2611 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Follow up fact for the final fact, it took about two years to create this language.
      And there is an actual Atlantean font you can download, I’ve seen it.

    • @gtrous665
      @gtrous665 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can confirm. Although Mulan arguably had a higher body count. Maybe. -gt

    • @Dinosaursrecycle
      @Dinosaursrecycle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@gtrous665 I can see how that is something up for discussion, but I disagree. I can accept that a large amount of people die in Mulan (it is a movie with both a Chinese and Hun army wiped out, as well as a destroyed village after all) but Atlantis has the destruction of a highly technological civilization (which could be anywhere between the sizes of 10 000 and 500 000) we also have the King state that he uses the Heart of Atlantis as a nuke so we can assume there was someone else that was a big enough threat to Atlantis to make the use of such a weapon necessary, which would mean the potential destruction of another civilization as well. I will admit that I have basically made up my numbers but I don't think they are a stretch.😁

    • @gtrous665
      @gtrous665 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it could be a topic for discussion. Size of ancient China vs size of a comparable ancient civilization for comparison. But I don’t think you can count casualties of the Atlantean adversaries in an off-screen war (Mu, or Ur, or Lemuria or whoever). For all anyone knows, the thermonuclear blast in the first 10 seconds of the film was a misfire and didn’t hit the enemy. It’s all conjecture. But otherwise I think you’re right.

    • @Dinosaursrecycle
      @Dinosaursrecycle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gtrous665 I must say I have never considered that the explosion could have been a miss, but I find that unlikely since the king said "it overwhelmed us" indicating that the explosion was simply larger than expected.
      Of course, as you said it happens off-screen and we can only guess, but that is what makes it fun to consider these questions, and exploring their outcomes.
      Although I do feel the need to counter your argument about it happening off-screen with not all of China partakes in the war. all death shown on-screen is those two armies, some border guards and a mountain village. We can assume there is more death as a part of the war but that is basically all we see in that movie.
      But I agree that I might have overstated the casualties by adding my own interpretation.

    One thing I really liked about that film is it was not afraid to go dark like when Audrey had to close that one door where she sacrificed some crewmembers to save the ship.

    There's actually some very interesting history behind the particular studio that made this movie.
    This, and several other movies came from the Florida studio, which for a long time was a backup animation studio that did work the main Burbank studio didn't have time for.
    Then in 1996 Disney decided to focus all their energy on transitioning to 3D animation, acquired Pixar and started working on A Bug's Life.
    They basically told the Florida studio (their only remaining full-time 2D animation studio) they could do whatever movies they wanted.
    And the Florida studio, for the first time, got to produce feature films:
    • Mulan (1998)
    • Tarzan (1999)
    •John Henry (2000)
    • The Emperor's New Groove (2000)
    • Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
    • Lilo & Stitch (2002)
    • Brother Bear (2003)
    Then in 2004 Disney decided to stop producing 2-D feature films altogether, closed down the Florida studio and laid off all the animators.
    Many of whom then got hired by Dreamworks.

    • @gtrous665
      @gtrous665 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      While the Florida studio assisted on this movie, it was primarily produced in the Burbank Disney Studio by the same team that did The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Beauty and the Beast. While Atlantis was in production in Burbank, Lilo and Stitch was on a slightly parallel full production track in Orlando.

    you should definitely look up what a coelacanth looks like. you're literally looking at something that existed millions of years into the past, that is still swimming around today! they are harmless but crazy looking.

    I loved this movie as a kid. So many funny quotes to be remembered. "YOU HAVE DISTURBED THE DIRT!" and "were all gonna die" have to be some of my favorite. This movie actually got an old pc game that went out as a sort of preview type thing. It had a scene cut from the movie that showed some vikings that owned the journal milos father found. They were taken out by the leviathan. The tutorial level was you playing as a soldier along with milos grandfather. Then the main game you play as milo. It was an adventure/action/ shooter game for like windows 98 and xp. Back when disney got away with a gun disquised as a drill machine that shoots beams using different crystal gems lol. I never realised but yeah the old lady in this is a lot like edna. Maybe she is edna grandmother or something. She did get her share of the profit in the end.

    Science still ponders the possibilities of Atlantis, but a very likely possibility is what is Santorini today. 3.5k years ago it was a large island, but the island blew up and there are small pieces of it left today. There was two parts to the (then) empire, with the second half being on what is Crete today. The (then) residents were called Minoans in honor of their king-Minos. When Santorini blew, a giant tsunami washed over Crete. Archeological digs have found pure copper relics. The only place that pure copper is found is the upper peninsula of Michigan. A mining camp that was suddenly abandoned thousands of years ago has been found on the peninsula. By the way, the after effects of the eruption were described, but exaggerated, in the book of Exodus in the Bible. Since the fall out drifted south, it must be presumed that the eruption happened in the fall or winter.

    The person who did the character designs for this movie was, oddly enough, Mike Mignola. Mike Mignola is the artist behind the Hellboy comics.

    Was not a big fan of this movie but I really enjoy your reactions! It makes the movie a lot easier to watch honestly I wasn’t a big fan. Thank you for making me laugh and enjoy the reaction!!

    Hey, as to your conviction that Mrs Packard is also Edna Mole from The Incredibles…I’m sorry to give you the bad news. Mrs Packard was played by the late great Florence Stanley (Law and Order, Malcom in the Middle, My Two Dads) and Edna was voiced by The director of The Incredibles, Brad Bird.
    By the way, thanks for reviewing this…it always makes my happy when people like it now, particularly after it’s less than blockbuster initial run 20 years ago.

    I'm glad you're back and okay! I loved this film when it came out and it's aged pretty well - I wish Disney didn't forget it existed ever since

    Lovely to see your videos back! Your edits are sooooo good :D Atlantis is definitely an underrated gem! Even if the animation style creeped me out as a kid (those fingers!) So glad that you enjoyed it :)

    There's a Direct-to-DVD sequeal that wasn't as good as the 1st(even with animation), but not all bad either. One reason I believe Kida was never truly at risk of being absorbed by the crystal like her mother is the fact that she's the last blood royal(her father married into the family). The crystal has a symbiotic relationship of sorts with the royal bloodline. It is just as dependent on the continued existence of the royal bloodline to sustain its own existence as their entire race is dependent on the crystal to sustain their own existence. Since Kida was the last of royal blood with no blood heirs, the crystal would have a vested interest in keeping her alive instead of absorbing her. It possesses some level of sentience enough so as to be able to make such distinctions, especially since it possesses a kind of collective consciousness of all those it had previously absorbed. It's likely capable of viewing all the memories of those it absorbes or uses as a host and therefore know that Kida was the last of the bloodline it needs. Kida would only truly be at risk of being permanently absorbed after giving birth to an heir. To absorb Kida before she has produced a blood heir would inevitably lead to the crystals own destruction.

    Sophie your reaction to Kida's swimwear at 20:56 minutes, was priceless and personally lasted too short like ma gurl that was only 2 seconds!!!🥲😹Regardless, I enjoyed your overall reaction and I thank you for making my day a whole lot better 💝

    i just noticed something I never saw before......
    THe guns they have, aren't these guns from WWII, but they are living in before WWI.

    So consider how powerful the Leviathan was. Then consider we saw a squadron of them flying in the prologue.
    There was also an alternate opening of some vikings, speaking actual Swedish, sailing in search of Atlantis with the Journal. It didn't end well for them.
    Mr. Whitmore is old. He's in... unnervingly good shape for his age, but he is old, and this could be a rather rough expedition. Besides, he also would have to leave the cushy mansion.
    Mole is insane and gross, but he knows his field. Ever named character on that tub is off in some way. Except maybe Helga. Still, Normal people don't sign up to this kind of mission. Subterranean excavation of a mythical lost city.
    You missed Audrey leaving people to drown while trying to contain the flooding. But really, they did the best they could. It's a titanic war machine capable of coring the sub in a single shott at full power. Heck it was able to rip it apart with its smaller claws. And their torpedoes only made it annoyed.
    I mean, I don't think you go 24-0 heading into a title match if you don't find some enjoyment in it, and Audrey seems to be genuinely engaged in her mechanical pursuits.
    She gives people the benefit of the doubt, and the stuff they destroyed are ruins of old glory, far from where the remaining people live.
    Milo is self taught in a language that hasn't been heard or written on the surface for millennia. I'd say he does pretty well.
    Rourke is of a higher spec than Clayton, but they are of a very similar make.
    Rourke lacks ethics, not intelligence. He helped lead the expedition to retrieve the journal and many other "archeological acquisitions." He's also a mercenary commander. He's not some meat head.
    Yeah, I don't know why Crystal Kida didn't slag them, but it ultimately let her people rise to the occasion and make their first allies in thousands of years, so for the best?
    The old king has lived in a monument to his hubris for over 8 thousand years. That's got to be humbling.
    Emperor's New Groove got a high school tv spinoff and a spinoff movie, but Treasure Planet? Nothing. Atlantis? Some test episodes cleaned up and spot welded together.
