      Anna is way beyond cool, not only is she a more than competent pilot of aircraft that few modern pilots can master as well as she has she grew up with Ayrton Senna as a friend and she restores old Catapillars and other heavy machinery as a hobby. She is one of the amazing people I have ever had the privilege of meeting.

    I had the pleasure of talking to Stapme Stapleton who flew in the BoB with Richard Hilary.
    He told me, and I can't quote verbatim...
    Imagine learning to drive in a mini. Then training in a Formula 3 car for a few weeks, then put into the latest F1 car with 10 hours practice.
    Now you're in a race with the pros. Exept if Schumacher or Kimi gets within 10 feet of you ...you're dead.
    That's what we were up against with the 109s. Except our cars were as good, we were on our track, we could pit more, and they often got in each other's way. But it was a target rich environment for us.
    Something like that.
    He also gave me tips on how to shoot up trains in a Typhoon using rockets! He was bloody amazing. RIP

      Flying a plane, even a WW2 fighter, isn't that difficult (and the Hurricane has particularly forgiving characteristics ). You can go do a dogfighter experience (basically laserquest/quasarlaser in the sky) in Nevada for not a lot of money, for example. Its landing and taking off that are challenging (esp in a WW2 warbird with a VERY heavy./large piston engine, lots of prop wash and torque to contend with), and navigation, meteorology and radio operation and instrument flying that are hard. And he is in a 2 seater here - so not an issue. My old flying instructor used to say "if you can drive a manual car, you can fly a light aircraft. If you can drive a manual car in the dark with no lights on while doing complicated maths and reading a map, you can fly on instruments"

    If I were in Guys shoes I'd be more petrified of breaking that priceless museum piece!
    What would be interesting is if someone built a replica Spitfire or Hurricane but with modern materials, mechanics and techniques.
    Something that you could really throw around without the fear of breaking it.

    • @marvindebot3264
      @marvindebot3264 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, as rare as they are unless they are unless they are the last flying example they deserve to have the wings flown off them because that is what they were designed to do.
      If they are the last of the last then yes, unfortunately, they need to be babied but until then they deserve to be used as their makers intended for the benefit of those who invest a fortune to keep them flying and those who watch from the ground.
      That is why even tho it takes a toll now and again the Reno Air Races are also important. Yup every few years it costs us an irreplaceable aircraft but by The Gods it shows the folk of today what incredible beasts our forefathers created.

One of them is a pilot officer killed in action 1940, age 19. Next to it is that of a squadron leader, killed in action 1940 aged 39 about 2 months later. They have the same surname. @@marvindebot3264 Yes, I am aware that there is only one and possibly a second near airworthy. My point is that why say it is a 109 when its not. Lost count of the number of TH-cam clips calling a fake, a 109.

    • @marvindebot3264
      @marvindebot3264 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fitzyholden1036 It's not a fake. It's a late production 109 with a different engine. In this case, IIRC it's a Swiss production 109 airframe from 1947 or so that has been re-engined with a Merlin. Is that any more fake than the 1938 Spanish production ones?
      Even if it were built yesterday to the original blueprints, is it fake? Ah, no it's a continuation aircraft with a 2021 build date.
      Is it as desirable as a 1940's build? Nope, but it's still an FW-109 the same way as a 1980 Volkswagon Beatle is just as much a Volkswagon Beatle as a 1940s one.

    It's unfortunate people still label those as BF-109's. The majority of the German air force was scrapped and looted by allied and soviet forces by the end of the war. Real planes that saw combat that is still in existence today crashed behind our lines or were surrendered. Even with that fact it's hard to find proper parts to repair them into flying condition. In movies, today people will use the Spanish-built HA-1112 which is essentially a BF-109G-2 but somewhat resembles the BF-109E variants which fought in North Africa, Poland, France, Britain, and the Soviet Union. The "German" aircraft in the video is HA-1112-M1L with fake german markings, her first flight was on 29 March 1954. In no way shape or form does this aircraft even closely compare to the E-3 and E-4 109's used during the Battle of Britain.

    Why Women Make Great flight Instructors
    The U.S.A. record holder for being able to withstand higher g - forces (that is, without passing out into unconsciousness) was a woman. It was soon discovered that this phenomenon was a trend, rather than an anomaly.
    A giant centrifuge, equipped with cameras, was built for the U.S.A.F.
    It looks like an amusement park ride with an external operator. The pilot is strapped in it, and the operator turns up the speed until the pilot passes out. This is the device that proved some women can handle higher g - forces than an athletic man. I saw the test for the first woman to prove this hypothesis to be correct.
    That woman was not as thin as a long distance runner or even as lean as a football (soccer) player, and not as muscular as a gymnast.
    After I saw the video of those centrifuge tests on "The Military Channel" in the 1980s, many female U.S.A.F. cadets have become flight instructors at the U.S.A.F. Academy. Furthermore, a woman became a squadron leader of an A-10 squadron flying patrols over Iraq. She then went on to be a Congresswoman representing Arizona.
    Women of the U.K.'s Air Transport Auxiliary (A.T.A.) flew Hawker Hurricanes (and all types of military aircraft) from factories to forward airfields as early as 1940.
    Soviet women flew harrasment and interdictiion (H. and I.) raids against units of the German army (the Heer) starting in 1941. German soldiers referred to them as "night witches".
