Great review, as always mr. Abbott!👌Bought this lens some weeks ago, and discovered two things: Tack sharp in the middle, and somewhat "busy" softening at the edges, at landscape pictures. BUT, at close range, say between 20-60 cm, the edge-sharpness is much better. My old Samyang 12mm is sharp at the edges at all distances. But with fast, silent AF, aperture ring, af-manuel svitch, great sunstar, good flare/ghosting control (where the Samyang is horrible), it`s an incredible bang for the buck!! Will keep the Samyang for astro/some landscape shots though!

Sounds like a fair assessment to me.

    Thanks for the review Dustin!
I bought 16mm version of this lens and I am quite satisfied with it. Optically nearly perfect lens. This 11mm version could be more useful for vlogs but except that I think 16mm version is a much better lens in terms of image quality.

The Samyang 12mm f/2 was a well performing lens on APSC so if your saying the image quality is better on this, then that is a big achievement for the Yongnuo

Thank you Dustin, for this excellent and complete test ! As always. 👏😌
It clearly shows 2nd division players never stop wanting for more.
Now, being active 50/50 in photo/video, I wonder about this remote and its actual usage and efficiency in video.
Sony users now have the neat and clever M&C' application for camera control, and I use it nearly every time I go out filming. Only exception being when the scenes are fully action-packed.
With this remote, I see some of the "control burden" being spread on another gear than the camera itself, making things (perhaps) easier in some ways.
Did you have/take the time to use this remote in actual filming situations on the long haul ? And, if so, what are your thoughts about its utility ?
Do not rush, but if you have some time for a little answer... thanks again !

Most of the time I have to move on to other pieces of gear after I review something because I constantly have 5-6 other lenses on the go for review, but I do think there is practical applications to this remote. You can do smooth, controlled focus pulls, for example, and you don't have to touch the lens/camera at all.

Very useful review. Just a question.. Is it possible to use the remote control to shot remotely?

Thank you very much for this video. This lens is an interesting idea. I wonder how long before remote lens control is integrated into phone applications. For example, Sony could just add these options to their applications.

That would be an interesting application.

Certainly one I wouldn't mind seeing rolling out to other lenses.

Thank you very much for your excellent text review.
Sony have a lesson to learn here, from a beginner in Lens manufactoring, a cheap lens that is mush better corrected for barrel distortion than Sony ! So here is to you Sony, you have to make your Lenses MUCH better, Sony Lenses should NOT need software to perform !!!

Agh! I find the corner sharpness an issue - thanks so much for the review, you just saved me wasting money!

Sony is a fisheye lens. After correcting the distortion it's about as sharp as Viltrox 13mm. The field of view also shrinks closer tothat of 12mm on Sony. So in the end some loss of sharpness in the corners on other lenses is fine. Sony just decided that not correcting the distortion will make the lens smaller while having about the same optical qualities as competition. It's a good approach until someone does it better, apparently so far so good.

I would be buy this lens in a heartbeat if it was full frame.

That would be a much more difficult lens to engineer.
