  • The Story Of Gretna F.C.
Gretna was a football club from Scotland and had rapid rise and continual success in the mid-2000s, reaching the Scottish Cup Final in 2006, but the club fell into severe financial difficulties when businessman Brooks Mileson, its main financial backer, withdrew funds due to ill health. The club was forced to dissolve in 2008 due to money issues.

Arrrh Gretna! Mixed feelings. It seems very recent that they would play Workington and even Fleetwood.
It was a great alternative for me when Carlisle were away.
Many Carlisle people took to supporting Gretna when the Michael Knighton era turned sour.
What a shame games had to be played up in Motherwell, when Gretna went up to the Premier League.
It would’ve been good if they could’ve played at Brunton park.
What a rollercoaster! That 3-2 win!
Annan represents the border region really well.
    Good memories

Went to Gretna as an eight-year-old with Bradford (Park Avenue) and fell off the front of the stand and banged my head when they were in the NPL. Needed their physio with his magic sponge. Was a long journey home! Then followed their story and the remember the fairytale Scottish Cup Final which they should have won! Sad how it ended.

Strange thought that there was a time when Gretna, Colwyn Bay and Caernarfon Town were all in the NPL 1st division together. A League with English, Welsh and Scottish in it.
I remember speaking to Gretna director as Leek Town the season before their SFL application. They were very proud of their achievements in the pyramid although saw the SFL as the logical next step. I liked them and was annoyed that Mileson totally crashed their dream.
