my mom can leave her 'CheeseBall Jar' monstera for 3+ weeks and it's been fine (East window exposure).. roots not as abundant as Jeff's so that's the new goal 😊
Awesome plant! It’s growing really well. I have a similar contraption. I take a mobile phone holder with a heavy base, and take out the part that holds the phone, and then strap a moss pole to the base. Then I’ll use a cylindrical plastic container neatly covered by duck tape (to keep the light out) and then strap the container onto the moss pole with Velcro ties. Then I strap the plant onto the moss pole. (I use the wire mess DYI moss pole) then the plant will eventually climb and attach onto the pole with the base still in water. I find the base is heavy enough to even support an extended pole (180cm tall). I also have a plant base with water tray to catch any water that comes out of the pole when I water it. When the pole gets a chop and extend, there is enough roots inside the pole so I just forgo the water container at the bottom and just stale the pole onto the phone base. When it comes time to
I had a large monstera that I had in water with my air stone and it was doing great until it died. Unfortunately the air stone gave out and I didn't realize it, and within the few days the roots had basically just turned to mush. So, like you I found the air stone is essential for the roots to stay alive.
Hey Jeff, I have been adding 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide in the ratio of 1:100 (100 being water) after watching an instagram reel. Not only it prevents moss or mould, it kills them off too. It has been a breeze that I don’t even need to change the water regularly. I just top up with the same solution when needed. Thought this could help.
I've read that not only does it kill bad pest and bacteria, but it also kills the good stuff in there as well.....for soil. I'm not sure how it would affect water....I'll have to do a bit more research
I have a large monstera in soil, and i also have a Thai const.& a monstera prop I switched to semi hydro- the semi-hydro ones are thriving and loving the water. I also moved my alocasias to semi hydro & they all took off like crazy. Dynagrow foliage is what I use in my semi hydro.
Thank you Jeff. Would it be possible to grow a monstera in a five gallon bucket ? It would block out the light preventing algae growth and it probably, maybe never outgrow the container ? 🌺💚🙃
This was AMAZING-- thanks for the step-by-step! Thanks for all the IG tips over the months that we also employed ie. the wicker basket to block out the algae growth & the support stick to help too. My mom is now asking me about that bubbling stone for her CheeseBall Monstera, so I will show her on your amazon page-- she was super impressed with the udon thick noodle roots🤩...and she wants me to measure her leaves now too lol. Thanks for inspiring fun, experimentation and thinking out of the box in our plant journeys!!! 🌿
Great series thx Jeff and big ups to you. Also couldnt find any Monstera long term grown in water videos. Definitely going to try myself. Cant believe how huge it became :o The setup is nice. One thing im conerned about is the water, since you basically cant change it. I think there is a high chance that a lot of elements will eventually concentrate and may affect the plant by both reducing the ability to uptake nutriens and also pickup some harmful ones.
Mine has been growing in water for almost 6 months and although its doing well and has pumped out a few more leaves and tons of roots, my leaves are not getting big. I know I should be fertilizing often but does it help to get a bigger jar?
@@EverythingPlants It's on a shelf facing our front door, which has many windows but facing south. This is the only place in our home with the most lighting due to the many windows. I also have a clip-on plant light attached to the shelf, but I doubt that helps with the monstera since it sits on the top shelf due to its height. Maybe I need to place it on the floor so the plant light shines right on it. How often do you fertilize yours?
If the glass jars have to be smashed every time it outgrows one, would it be easier to just put the plant in a large bucket or something that doesn't have the lip at the top to make it easier to extract when the time comes? I'd totally try this myself, but I don't really trust myself to not kick it over by accident :')
I've been trying to find a glass container that doesn't have the lip at the top. I don't really want a giant bucket LOL but if I must then that's what I have to do
@@EverythingPlants I'm imagining a kitty litter bucket or one of those big blue Lowe's things. Maybe if I'm feeling brave some day I'll put one of mine into one and see what happens.
That would be right up my alley because I have a tendency to underwater plants and only having to top it off once in awhile would be perfect. 🌺💚🙃
It's super easy!

I cannot wait to share this with my daughter n law ! This way to grow a monstera is amazing so satisfying !Thanks Jeff ✌🏻💚💚
Yes.....I love seeing all the roots!
Love when you update some of your plant experiments, Jeff Those inner fenestrations tell the tale on this one. Congrats!

That is a pretty sweet set-up. Do you have a picture you could send to my IG....I'd love to see it
@@EverythingPlants yeah I’ll send you a video
Really excited to have found this! About to move my monsteras into water now.
It has actually blown me away with how well it's done

@@97purplehaz oh no that's terrible. How old was the plant?
Whoaaaaaaaaaaaa look at that leaf!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I know, right???!!! 😍
Hoping for a pothos update soon 🤞
It's coming..... We just need to figure out what our next series will be before the last episode of the pothos race
Definitely want to try this! Thank you for sharing this. I enjoy the ease of plants growing in water or hydroponics.
Thanks so much for watching Linda

Some people grow them in there aquariums takes out the nitrogen in the water feeds tha plant and helps the fish
I've heard of people doing this with pothos

If yours isn't sizing up, it might be a light issue as well.... What kind of light do you have it in?

Just use 5 gal bucket then light won't go thru and make hole in lid
