I think people like me watch youtuber's like yourself because we want to watch genuine people being themselves succeed in the thing that makes them happy. Keep it up dude.
I'm driving a Doge ram diesel with a camper like yours albeit a bit smaller and lighter. One thing is for sure, if I don't have at least 5 grand in the emergency fund, I stay home until I do. I have not got your bravery to set out on a limb and prayer. I'm a weekend warrior semi retired old fart just having fun on the weekends. But I am addicted to channels such as yours knowing if I had my youth, I probably would take the plunge and full time it.
Your doing what makes you happy right now. A house is not everything. You have to be your true self and do what you want be the person you want to be. Nothing wrong with being a nomad. Keep going buddy.
Thank you Kevin for sharing the Mica Dam adventure. I really appreciate your comments near the end of the video. While I love the sense of adventure to find remote locations of complete solitude, when it comes down to it, I’m most comfortable when I can stay connected with my peeps!
i am in pretty much in the same boat as you, had a bouse in Bruderheim, Alberta, wanted to sell it and buy a travel trailer and move to Edmonton in an apartment and do more exploring, then Covid hit, got laid off, took about 2 years to sell my place as well, had a job that I was not happy with, once Covid hit, I got laid off (best thing ever) then moved to Pincher Creek (Cowley) and had a small business there, now I am back in Edmonton (moved back home) and looking at a Camper for my 2005 F350 and work freelance all over Canada and the US, working on that project as we speak! good inspiration dude!
Wow the people with lots of money saying “go south in the winter “ . Not everyone has that kind of money . Great video ! Not everyone has to live in a sticks and bricks !
Don’t second guess yourself on past decisions. You made them and it’s behind you. Look forward and follow the goal. Who knows where we all will be in a year and make the best decisions you can moving forward! Love the vids and sending positive vibes 🙏! Yes on Q/A. All the best
Hey Kevin, hope your staying safe, wanted to mention that my home town of Powell River is just a ferry ride from Comox and its beautiful here with tones of places to camp, hike, fish, you name it, you may not want to leave like a lot of people that come here, Been thinking of doing the same, selling my house and getting a camper and banking the rest and maybe try semi retiring, my place feels like a ball and chain sometimes and Im getting sick of the rat race, anyway take care and stay safe
Powell River very beautiful & relaxed spot, way less tourists than sunshine coast . I used to live in a little cabin in Stillwater 10 steps to the ocean, those sea lions were loud though! arf arf arf
Hey Kevin, I normally never comment on any videos I watch, but I wanted to comment a little on this one. Since Im strongly considering the 'Vanlife' myself here in southern Alberta, Im a subscriber. For 9 years I lived on Vancouver Island. I spent my time in Cumberland, Royston, Comox, and Courtenay. During the summer, it might be one of the prettiest places in the world. But, the other 8 months of the year are very wet. So, if you decide to stay this winter, and live around Mount Washington, consider getting a small wood stove install for your Camper. It will provide really good heat, and dry out anything that gets wet. Im sure you've already considered that, but I found wood heat to be the best while living on the Island. Have a great time, enjoy the north Island!
Head to Mt Washington area for the winter. Flip-flops and golf in the morning and ski in the evening and night. Save on heating and maybe even get a job at the resort or around the local towns.
Good for you buddy!! keep doing what is making you feel good!! I only wish I was 30 years younger and doing what you are doing. enjoy your travels and adventures while you are able. Cheers. ❤️❤️
Congrats on 7k(bean here since just over 1k) subs....and your audio is so much better with the new mic. I like your hikes and outdoor activities(I'm not so much for watching people eat or make food...but to each there own)....I like your channel and Forresty and Life of Luke....some vlog stuff is ok but given that your in one of the most beautiful places on the Continent(B.C) I love the scenery. Looking forward to more and watching you grow as a content creator.
I've slept in the Whitecourt Walmart parking lot a few times. Not sure I would want to stay there either lol. I don't have the cash saved to just buy a camper that I'd trust so I'll probably have to finance it. But it's no different than paying rent, except I'll get to travel around a lot more, which I miss from my bus driving days. My plan is to summer in Alaska in the camper for as long as I can stand it and either drive south or rent a cabin in the winters.
I am a pensioner also. I used to have a 1970 VW Bus, which I redid the interior as a vintage gypsy wagon. It has no insulation. What I did was create a full vehicle awning. It was lifted off the roof of the vehicle by four inches and the awning not only covered the entire vehicle but also extended six feet all the way around so in summer I always had shade and the interior of the bus was reduced by about 20 degrees. I also made window and door screen to keep bugs out yet allow air flow. Air flow is important in the heat. I also had USB powered fans inside powered by a goal zero power bank. When it's hot out a simple elevated cover over entire vehicle helps a lot but make sure that you have at least four or more inches between the roof of your camper/vehicle and the awning/ shade cloth covering as that air flow between the two is important!
Absolutely I get it %100 about feeling like you are home on Vancouver Island, rode that area on my motorcycle with a small travel trailer, nothing like being by the ocean, it literally feels like your troubles melt away, and you don't want to leave, and when you do , you can feel the stress coming back the farther you get away from there, anyways love your videos, someday I will be out there full time,
If I had it to do over again, I would’ve done what you’re doing. As for a winter job, there’s always seasonal work. I know a lot of van lifers work for Amazon for the holidays in the US.
I love your videos! I know what it feels like to not like living in the place you're in. Ugh.... I live in Edmonton and am just waiting to escape! Lol! I'm a farm girl! I hate the city. So I live vicariously through you! Congratulations on your subscribers! Yay!
You’re doing a smart thing because the price of rent these days for apartments it’s driving everybody crazy including my husband and I we live in apartment the price is ridiculous over 1000 bucks just to live in two apartment that is awful. Well good luck for you, sir I hope the best.
I sold my place in 2016 with the intention of purchasing again after renting for a couple years. Eight years later and I really have no desire to get back into home ownership. Now I travel when and where I want in my home on wheels and invest my savings. For me, it’s a win-win situation! Congrats Kevin on reaching 7K subscribers! Your hard work is paying off😊
I totally agree with what you said about living somewhere that you don't like. At first I thought it was a good move but after a couple of years I really didn't like being where I was. After a couple more years I convinced my husband to move to the Oregon coast. After 7 years I still love it here. We have a truck and camper too and I use them to go camping/riding with my horse. Moral is, find your joy where you can, wherever or whatever it is.
Always looking forward to your posts! Curious to see where this goes! I'm sure great places and great things will come your way. Sure there will always be bumps in the road, but they will pass and you will continue to thrive doing things that make you happy! Have at it!!!
A few thoughts about what you spoke about. 1) Take the money you are saving and invest it, maybe to a property where you can rent to carry the costs etc? 2) Look into a better electrical setup. EPOCH 460 amp/hr battery is great for the price and combine with good quality inverter like victron, solar on the roof and also a dc/DC charger from the alternator on the truck. This could help you save a lot of propane for heating. Also could consider a diesel heater in pla e of your current furnace. More efficient and a dry heat where propane causes lots of moisture. Will prowse for technical knowledge and explorist life for how to install electrical systems are great resources. 3) With regards to your home address, use a friend or family member if available or a UPS Store for mail purposes. This becomes your address, and you can avoid even talking about living in your truck camper. Good luck to you. 🙏
Just a thought about your winter employment...Why not apply at a ski resort? They would likely allow you to park your vehicle there 24/7 and you would probably have the perk of a free seasons pass (and that would certainly be a money saver!)
I’ve been looking into that and applying to a few places logistics of dump stations is a consideration a lot of the time, so far best places would be revelstoke and fernie, red mountain I’m looking into also. Ideally I’d love to run a snow cat 😂
The Lake Louise "hard side" campground is open all winter, as is its dump station. $36 a night but has 30/50 amp power so you could use electric heat instead of a propane heater. Also flush toilets and showers!@@KevinWaldsAdventures
New subscriber, from Nova Scotia. Great video, and timely too Kevin! Took early retirement and am looking at truck campers, (found a Northern lite 610 a few hrs away) but wonder if it will be a grind after the novelty wears off. Mountain biking in Arizona in February is pretty enticing, though! Keep the great videos coming!
@@SpykersB AM thinking a year to try it out. Am a little put off by those big ones as I like to get into the backcountry. Plus , I want to stick to Toyota, and they have a lower payload. And, $$
Your living the dream I want. The only thing is why don't you have a campfire to cook on like, Kenny of all Trades... But most of all you're living my dream..
We’re retired Americans in a Promaster and usually we spend summers in the US and Canada answers in southern Mexico to stay in the heat. Doing it when you’re young is harder but I hope it’s worth it. Seems to be for you.
Great video and pros/cons. I am working towards selling my house and hitting the road in my SUV and then eventually a truck and truck camper and buy some undeveloped land for a home base. I can relate on the having a house where you do not want to live...even a paid off house that you don't like and don't want to live in is, in my opinion, vastly overrated.
I lived and worked out of a truck camper for quite a few years. I wouldn’t worry about it. If you decide to winter on the island there would be work. Heck, I’d hire ya!
You were lucky to have the house to start with. a solid truck and camper is a BIG investment for someone only making $20/hr like myself.... but I can dream!
Why don't you just go south like many snowbirds do?! It's warmer to some degree. Many states in the US do offer skiing like AZ! We have 3 ski resorts in the winter and have lots of snowbirds who love our winters. And with the job situation thing I would think that employers would appreciate you living in a truck camper as that makes you more 'flexible' with mobility related to job requirements. Kenny of All Trades shared your channel. Good luck!
Hi Kevin, awesome video mate, lots of great advice as always. But first living where you do, same as mate I loved my place but having so many problems with the neighbours etc so got rid and sold up, brought a narrowboat best thing I ever did, if you don't get on with the neighbours when continuously cruising and staying in one place I could always move. But now for me as you know being in a wheelchair hasn't changed what I live in, I now have a permanent mooring so I don't have to move about. As for your job it doesn't matter what you live in as long as you are good at your job, that's up to you if you tell them or not. Me personally when I was working I told them where I lived, I did have an address where my mail could go and still have that address. Think maybe you are worrying to much mate, see how it goes. Hope this was helpful . ❤ Take care mate X X X
Kevin, totally enjoyed the topic. Have you considered cutting your propane bill by traveling to the southern US states during the winter? You could still work but the temps would not be as drastic. If you do a live stream please give us notice so that you have better attendance.
😅I just got on your channel and I'm really liking it, watching you cruise on your bike was a scary even for me just watching..but it was fun you took us for a ride..are you afraid of being alone in those woods? I'm kinda worried about bears and squatches popping up on you. Also are you a married guy or have kids? Just wondered, hope im not being intrusive. I'm a grandmother and if one of my boys went to live in their camper and went off to the woods I'd be super stressed.😊..yotake e care out there, so far you're comfortable doing this traveling I'm sure your family misses you. So enjoy youself, just be extra cautious, god bless
🚐🏕 Hola and good day ☀️ Your vid popped up in my vid feed 👍 I truly enjoyed your vid ✌️Especially when you said: 18:35-18:53 .. that comment literally made me fumble my phone out of my hands 👀 I was like oh sh!¥ I am in that predicament at the moment! However, I know what I want 🚐👍 for many moons and will have it 🚐🏕 Soon I will have my Classic Roadtrek 🚐🏕(not those outrageously overpriced vans today) 💃✨💃 I can’t wait to get out there on the hwys and byways. Hey Kevin 👋 great videos man ! I'd love to participate in the live Q and A! If your doing that man. I live in Calgary,Alberta and originally from Maple Ridge, BC 🫡
Pensioner with a paid-for truck and camper in the driveway. I own a small run-down house in a small run-down prairie town and the temptation to live in the camper is strong, mainly to free up some money to travel Canada before I am too decrepit. However when I am sitting in front of the fireplace in winter watching Hockey Night on the big screen tossing back a beer I wonder what I would be doing in my camper in --30 and the urge to full-time disappears quickly. I wish I could afford both.
Hey Saskatchewan gopher, calgary here, get your passport and do what so many canadians do, leave around first week of nov n head to the states, come back to Canada in april/may. Cruise Canada in summer n head to states for winter. Ray from Love your RV n boat utubers too, been living in their 5th wheel for 11 yrs now fulltime. 🍻
Why don’t you snow bird to the southwest, USA, like Ray at Love Your RV and Boat channel? He spends the summer on his Trawler out of Campbell River on Vancouver Is. He is getting ready to leave for the US. soon to spend the winter.
I work for a top 3 Telecommunications Company in the US. I know 2 people that live off grid. One lives in a Skoolie and the other lives on a revamp tugboat. So companies really look at your qualifications and not your living status.
Do you have a line of merch ? Thought about it if not ? I think there is a nice income in that if your good at picking out what the public wants hoodies T-shirts bumper stickers ect Also doing reviews on product the manufacturer sends you would be cool you might increase your subscription rate doing them I myself love to watch TH-camrs do reviews ! Just more food for thought ✌🏻
Kevin stop fussing about what people think of you, your breakfast needs butter and onions and corned beef, bon appetit, and I hope you can really enjoy your first true vacation take care have fun.
Hey Kevin! We just bought a truck camper for our 2 month trip to AK next year. We also have a 42’ 5th wheel & a 24’ TT. Not crazy about either of the beds we have in those. Do you have one you like?
@@KevinWaldsAdventuresugh, it wont help! Did that with the 5th wheel, couple years ago, the dam mattress started sagging, went to ikea n got a 2" topper n waste of money! It doesn't help, it dips into the same areas!!! I need a way firmer mattress in my truck camper now too. Hate the soft memory foam. I dont want a 10" thick thing either. So ive been sitting on it. Basically u can get a queen mattress anywhere but the thickness is the concern. Gotta do some serious shopping. Do u like it firmer too? Maybe we can collaborate on a hunt for new mattresses? 🍻
What do you do for an address and health care? I have a truck/camper and LOVE living in it but I’m always curious as to what to do for an address if I become a full-timer. Thanks Kevin!
Hey thought you said in your cost video summer vs winter that you paid 2300 dollars a month ?? You mean to tell me you can’t find an apartment for under that ? Then what you said about living in a house if you could is wrong I’m in the states and I know there are places places for 1100 you pay elec and some times they throw in water and trash for free and if they don’t you get apartment community rates the other thing I might mention is a mini split AC unit there do it yourself and I want to say they run on DC I watch another channel and the guy put the out unit on the back of the camper it fits perfect not a big footprint and I think he runs it off solar on the roof of the camper and supplements that with panels set outside the camper maybe you have seen a similar setup ? Maybe Mr cool could send you a freebie for you to do a review video on. Just some thought you prob already heard. Lol
lol actually most one bedroom apartments in Canada are almost that much in a lot of ski towns and major cities, 2300 a month is how much it costs me to live in the truck camper and that’s all my expenses for the month ,Phone bill, fuel ,food, miscellaneous lol
Hello, thank you for the informative video. I'm in the process of doing a CTC project. I've bought a house quiet some time ago & has saved me much money to do renovations on it. Like you, I've grown to not like the location for many reasons over the years. I was going to rent it out the 1st year I was on the road to see how I liked traveling around, but in the last year my property taxes have doubled🫤.So I have decided to sell instead. I've got about 3 years before I can retire( if I can make it that long)wish I could do it sooner so I would not be wasting the $ on property taxes. We shall see, the sooner the better. Not to bore you anymore, thank you for making videos that are enjoyable. The outdoors can not be beat in my mind. Thanks again✌️UC
Live stream! Also, do you need a specific number of subscribers to do Patreon? Or is that separate? You need to make $$$ doing this so we can keep living through you 😅

keep on going Brother you are doing great figuring it all out you have a head on your shoulders and are well on you're way to 100 THOUSAND keep it real keep it honest and just be yourself as you have been. People will like you just as you are . I spend a lot of time on the island you may want to winter there it will be much more kind weather wise and then continue on . Head up to Mt Washington you will find seasonal work and and put some cash in your pocket so you can carry on next spring . Just some friendly ideas
Truck Pros: 1. "A north to south bed." 😉 2. Able to "live" by the water and have an outside fire.🌊🔥 3. Able to witness impaired stumbling yelling persons at Walmart.🍺 4. Can take a shower immediately after snowboarding. 🏂🚿 5. Able to provide phenomenal quality content for a YT channel. 🏆
Kevin as a person who employed MANY people I would be more concerned on your job performance and you being upfront and honest with me that you are just passing through...tell me upfront that you are putting some cash in your pocket and moving on and just give me a 100% while you work for me and I will give you 100% of what you earned and WE will likely be friends for life

Your living the dream I want. The only thing is why don't you have a campfire to cook on like, Kenny of all Trades... But most of all you're living my dream..
The fire bans just came off here last week so more fire cooking to come!
Thanks Kevin.👍
Try a live stream. I think that’s a great way to interact with your viewers. And you can do a Q&A at the same time. Good luck
Thanks!
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
hey you passed 7k subs, congrats!
Congratulations on 7k.
We’re retired Americans in a Promaster and usually we spend summers in the US and Canada answers in southern Mexico to stay in the heat. Doing it when you’re young is harder but I hope it’s worth it. Seems to be for you.
What a great video
Great video and pros/cons. I am working towards selling my house and hitting the road in my SUV and then eventually a truck and truck camper and buy some undeveloped land for a home base. I can relate on the having a house where you do not want to live...even a paid off house that you don't like and don't want to live in is, in my opinion, vastly overrated.
I lived and worked out of a truck camper for quite a few years. I wouldn’t worry about it. If you decide to winter on the island there would be work. Heck, I’d hire ya!
I would watch a live stream Kevin
Live show would be great!
Good luck!
Live stream q&a sounds good
Hi Kevin, awesome video mate, lots of great advice as always.
Thank you!!! 😊 I agree I’m worrying a bit too much lol you take care aswell
Kevin, totally enjoyed the topic. Have you considered cutting your propane bill by traveling to the southern US states during the winter? You could still work but the temps would not be as drastic. If you do a live stream please give us notice so that you have better attendance.
I’m trying to figure out a day to do it but I will announce in a community post!
🚐🏕 Hola and good day ☀️
Your vid popped up in my vid feed 👍 I truly enjoyed your vid ✌️Especially when you said: 18:35-18:53 .. that comment literally made me fumble my phone out of my hands 👀 I was like oh sh!¥ I am in that predicament at the moment! However, I know what I want 🚐👍 for many moons and will have it 🚐🏕
Soon I will have my Classic Roadtrek 🚐🏕(not those outrageously overpriced vans today) 💃✨💃 I can’t wait to get out there on the hwys and byways. Gracias
Hey Kevin 👋 great videos man ! I'd love to participate in the live Q and A! If your doing that man. I live in Calgary,Alberta and originally from Maple Ridge, BC 🫡
A Diesel Heater would be your friend Kevin.
That’s very true lol -30 makes us all rethink our choices 😂
We winter in AZ with Canadians who never miss a hockey game. You can watch from wherever you are. Don’t wait!
@JJ-pc3fh OK, you have my attention now! Am looking at doing the truck camper thing and wintering in Arizona mountain biking and hiking. 🇨🇦
Rent out the house for income on the road...
Livestream would be fun! You got my vote.
Would you consider Patreon? I am sure lots would love to support you in any way:)
Considering the patreon now, thank you 😊
Why don’t you snow bird to the southwest, USA, like Ray at Love Your RV and Boat channel? He spends the summer on his Trawler out of Campbell River on Vancouver Is. He is getting ready to leave for the US. soon to spend the winter.
I snowboard and love the winter, 🥶 ⛄️ also can’t legally work in the US and need to make some extra money over winter
Congratulations on 7K love your videos
I’d luv a vehicle n camper similar, I have no home
Live in an rv site when your applying for a job. That way you have an address to put on your resume. Good luck.
Ah heck he can use his parents address, n a cover letter u say you're in alberta. Simple.
liked having a truck & camper but anytime I drove it was like $100+ a week !
I feel that 😂
Kevin stop fussing about what people think of you, your breakfast needs butter and onions and corned beef, bon appetit, and I hope you can really enjoy your first true vacation take care have fun.
What kind of work do you do? I might have missed it if you said in a previous video.
Equipment operator, almost anything to do with roads

Question: where did you look to find your rig?
Facebook marketplace
Hey Kevin! We just bought a truck camper for our 2 month trip to AK next year. We also have a 42’ 5th wheel & a 24’ TT. Not crazy about either of the beds we have in those. Do you have one you like?
I do not have one I could recommend, I’m not crazy about the one I have now, I’ll prob just get a foam topper for it from Walmart
@@SpykersB yes! The height of the mattress is a big issue, otherwise I’d go get one from the brick
@JJ-pc3fh where r u?
@@KevinWaldsAdventures ok I'll start looking, so what is the max height acceptable to u?
Any plans on coming to Ontario?
I think I’d really like to do a journey to the east coast next year, dependant on funds of course lol
What do you do for an address and health care? I have a truck/camper and LOVE living in it but I’m always curious as to what to do for an address if I become a full-timer. Thanks Kevin!
I use ups store for my address, and being Canadian health care is through Alberta, we don't pay
What is the button you always are wearing?
Microphone 🎤
Where do you do for work now?
And yes! Id love to watch a live stream!!!
What about a retirement though?
Freedom isnt free buddy
One thing ,, do you get lonely ?
What kind of work do you do?

Ok, I see what you mean. Lot of work in the summer for you. Not as much in the winter.
Live stream! Also, do you need a specific number of subscribers to do Patreon? Or is that separate? You need to make $$$ doing this so we can keep living through you 😅
I can start a pattern but TH-cam memberships I think is very similar lol thank you 😂
You're probably saving 6 to 8 K a year not owning a house, between taxes, insurance and utilities.
Unless savn min $500 a month till 60 later yrs will suck . Exp , mortg. 575 month owned 15 yrs pd 90k value now 340 thousand , barley owe anything . Fact is cake eat too fat pens w ss live full time in my van , still own a Home, 30 yrs truck liven to sit one place last yrs of life . Good luck
Your extended hikes are inspirational! Training for a meetup with Foresty Forest and Rocky?!!

I’m gunna need more training 😂
keep on going Brother you are doing great figuring it all out you have a head on your shoulders and are well on you're way to 100 THOUSAND keep it real keep it honest and just be yourself as you have been. People will like you just as you are . I spend a lot of time on the island you may want to winter there it will be much more kind weather wise and then continue on . Head up to Mt Washington you will find seasonal work and and put some cash in your pocket so you can carry on next spring . Just some friendly ideas
Thank you!!!! 😊
Truck Pros: 1. "A north to south bed." 😉
2. Able to "live" by the water and have an outside fire.🌊🔥
3. Able to witness impaired stumbling yelling persons at Walmart.🍺
4. Can take a shower immediately after snowboarding. 🏂🚿
5. Able to provide phenomenal quality content for a YT channel. 🏆
Kevin as a person who employed MANY people I would be more concerned on your job performance and you being upfront and honest with me that you are just passing through...tell me upfront that you are putting some cash in your pocket and moving on and just give me a 100% while you work for me and I will give you 100% of what you earned and WE will likely be friends for life
Yes I think honesty is key too!! It’s worked out for me so far 😂
