I have lived with insomnia for over twenty years. I recommend trying some blackout curtains to help with the sunlight coming into your home. Without my blackout curtains, it would be very difficult for me.

I’m a stay at home writer, content creator too and it’s lonely for sure. I think most people wish they could be independent from an outside job, but we forget what we have had to give up, and that’s the person to person connection which is really important- something i didn’t realize until I didn’t have it any longer. Polar night is getting closer yay! Love the autumn colors in Svalbard. We are currently going through a storm here in the Caribbean and we're enjoying the crisp air. It's making it feel like actual fall weather over here for a bit. 🧡
Fall is my absolute Favorite season, love the golden highlights of the sun and how the mornings and evenings are cooler. How the fog rolls in and of course the yellows, burnt oranges and reds of the leaves. I am so glad Svalbard has the beauty of fall. Gorgeous!
11:33 I worked in an office where the temperature could be freezing in the summer due to the air conditioning. It was 16-17C at the most, so we'd wear turtlenecks, sweater vests or jackets when it was scorching hot outside ! ...and sometimes it was the reverse during the winter. I'd have my usual warm winter ensemble of a knit turtleneck under a winter blazer or a V-neck sweater vest and I'd be half fainting half an hour later due to heat exhaustion !

Fall/Autumn is my favorite season! It's amazing to think where I live that a week and a half ago we had the hottest day of the year at 116F and all this week has been in the 80s. I've been able to have doors and windows open and smell the fresh air! I can't get too comfortable with it though, because it will get really hot again at least one last time. Thanks for sharing the whales and sunsets!!

We love to see the whales here in Costa Rica. There is a whale nursery off our beach. We love when the turtles come on shore to lay their eggs. You have a great vantage point off your deck. My husbands ancestor has an island named for him off the northern coast of Greenland. The northernmost sizeable island . Lockwood Island. I enjoyed seeing where you work. Thanks for taking us along. I also enjoy your grocery shopping. I used to live on a mountain here in CR and the lights from the valley below was like daylight all night all year long. In case anyone else is curious, the 14.45 Norwegian Kroner per liter for diesel amounts to 5.375 US dollars per gallon. That's pretty cheap when you consider how far the fuel was shipped from to get it to Svalbard and how not to long ago, we were paying around that per gallon here in the US right next to the refinery!
I can tell you that since I’m retired(due to disability/being able to lift 50lbs is a job requirement🙄), what I don’t miss is corporate nonsense. I think some people forget that living costs can be expensive in in north america. People focus just on food cost. However where I am in Canada, its always expensive. We pay 12% tax, other parts of canada pay 15%. I dont think most americans realize how expensive it is to live in Canada, even in the cheaper provinces. There are known expensive places in the US like NY and California. You can afford food where living costs are high. We benefited by crossing the border to the US frequently to buy gas and groceries because we could. People would say you are using more gas but you really aren't. I could drain my tank and fill from empty and still pay less then I would have in Canada. Even though its a 1 hour + border time drive to get to the US destination. Its no different then in my own country though. To get the cheapest gas, you are driving an hour within your own country anyway. We manage to buy groceries with high living costs, so I do relate in your living costs in my own way. Covid made you feel the heat of how expensive it is to live where I am because the US border was closed. Americans and Canadians alike both didn't understand the impact it had on our provincial economy. You can afford food where living costs are high and the key isn't to buy the cheapest foods because realistically its not always possible or practical. You buy what you can afford but if you're smart with where you put your money with your needs, while accepting that is always expensive regardless of cheaper products. Price raise in foods hardly made a difference because food was already expensive before.

China have been experimenting beaming microwaves from space powerstations back to earth. So solar protection is actually probably a concern as you mentioned. Painting your roof white can deflect outdoor heat, hot or cold, because as you know black absorbs heat, white reflects. Heating companies encourage dark color roofing in order to sell more heating gas. Outdoor shutters are good because I lived in a very hot country I know they prevent sun heat from entering the window, internal shutter blinds are also useful for solar protection. Maybe buy some ' long thick blackout curtains' because they block out light in the room for the bright days. Wear sun cream because it will also decrease cold wind damage.
The fall looks gorgeous. I would love to visit in August. However, I would have to start packing for Hawaii soon. 😂I am fascinated by and a little jealous of your love of the winter.
Wonderful video! I agree with you about loving winter, for me summer is running like crazy, but the cold, snowy winter months it is nice to hunker down and just turn in and do cozy things in front of the wood stove. My daughter was in Monterey, California this summer for an internship and saw her first humpback whales and she had tears in her eyes. Her "Mentor" was in Svalbard for about 2 1/2 months this past April-June doing research about plastic in ice. Enjoy your "autumn"!!!!

How quickly it gets darker there is really interesting. Here the light/dark changes by about an hour per month, not per day. Amazing!

I could drain my tank and fill from empty and still pay less then I would have in Canada. Even though its a 1 hour + border time drive to get to the US destination. Its no different then in my own country though. To get the cheapest gas, you are driving an hour within your own country anyway. We manage to buy groceries with high living costs, so I do relate in your living costs in my own way. Covid made you feel the heat of how expensive it is to live where I am because the US border was closed. Americans and Canadians alike both didn't understand the impact it had on our provincial economy. You can afford food where living costs are high and the key isn't to buy the cheapest foods because realistically its not always possible or practical. You buy what you can afford but if you're smart with where you put your money with your needs, while accepting that is always expensive regardless of cheaper products. Price raise in foods hardly made a difference because food was already expensive before.

China have been experimenting beaming microwaves from space powerstations back to earth. So solar protection is actually probably a concern as you mentioned. Painting your roof white can deflect outdoor heat, hot or cold, because as you know black absorbs heat, white reflects. Heating companies encourage dark color roofing in order to sell more heating gas. Outdoor shutters are good because I lived in a very hot country I know they prevent sun heat from entering the window, internal shutter blinds are also useful for solar protection. Maybe buy some ' long thick blackout curtains' because they block out light in the room for the bright days. Wear sun cream because it will also decrease cold wind damage.
The fall looks gorgeous. I would love to visit in August. However, I would have to start packing for Hawaii soon. 😂I am fascinated by and a little jealous of your love of the winter.

Wonderful video! I agree with you about loving winter, for me summer is running like crazy, but the cold, snowy winter months it is nice to hunker down and just turn in and do cozy things in front of the wood stove. My daughter was in Monterey, California this summer for an internship and saw her first humpback whales and she had tears in her eyes. Her "Mentor" was in Svalbard for about 2 1/2 months this past April-June doing research about plastic in ice. Enjoy your "autumn"!!!!
