A Great interview and surprised at his candour and humility. I suppose being in tangerine dream was all about 'keeping it real' and about the music as much as possible, with minimal ego tripping, hence he had the right temperament for that, and then scoring. . Thanks for sharing.
I've been a Haslinger fan for decades. His album "Score" is a masterpiece!! His words starting at 16:30 are profound and powerful; specially the part about composing music as becoming a "sound architect".
Legend..and Firestarter sure dont sound the same. I really liked.the album Optical Race which was when i first heard of Paul. Good sounding record and u could tell someone new was on board. If it wasnt for Tangerine Dream i wouldnt know all the great movie composers i know. If anyone likes Thomas Newman they haven't heard him yet if they haven't heard his work on 2 films..Light of Day...and Less Than Zero. Less Than Zero never gets old. If u can find the thomas newman score to that film u have one of the best ever made. Cliff Martinez on Sex Lies and Videotape was my number one for years. Its still high on my list. If anyone can find Dan Wyman's score to the Lawnmower Man you found the Holy Grail. Not sure its out there....watch the film and listen to the mix of piano and electronic choir sounds. Church like yet dark and hypnotic. With all that going on he even put a violin in one of those tracks and its amazing. I think all u can get is a download of one track from Lawnmower Man called End Title. If u here tbat all the way through...u can imagine what the rest of that score must have been like
My favorite Tangerine Dream movie score is Risky Business, but I haven't heard that many.I really liked Tangerine Dream's Peter Baumann's record label Private Music.
u would love the score that TD did to "Three Oclock High" "near dark" and they experimented big time when they did the "legend" soundtrack. they r probably best known for the risky business score. they also did "firestarter" with drew barrymore
Does anyone know where I can find some of the soundtracks Paul Haslinger composed for the National Geographic film "Seal Team Six: The Raid On Osama Bin Laden" also known as "Code Name Geronimo"?
oh no big deal I was just in this little band TANGERINE DREAM?!?!?!!?! that's like saying oh I was a member of the beatles for a while to a pop musician
this is a very interesting interview, but @ 25:36 Paul kind of shows how out of touch he is. He says its so easy to start out, because you can just go out and get a G5 and some "cool software" and you are off and running. He basically causally mentioned $6 grand worth of gear. But obviously he has a point. I just wouldn't tell someone to start out with a G5.
Even to this day in 2019. With intent, knowledge, drive, passion, and good ears . . . You can still create and do amazing music with a G5 and a few other key pieces such as monitors, etc. It doesn't have to be expensive, it's never been about the gear. This goes back to the 60's, 70's, 80's, and including now. Whatever an artist can get their hands on. Yes, even in 2019 and until the end of time. Ideas are ideas.

Great vid and great channel! Cheers
What does he mean by "different movie, same score"? The TD soundtracks I've listened to all sound different.

Great Interview *******I escaped from Austria to England
What's wrong with Austria?
Nothing. It just isn't Hollywood.
