I agree and will take it further by saying ARs do nothing for me. I’ve fired a few and they just feel like toys in comparison to my AKs. As much as we all talk about “training” for some shtf scenario, the vastly more probable reality is that firearms will remain a fun hobby for the people who own them. For that purpose you have to use what makes you smile.
Real, I think we get too caught up especially with what the media and industry want you to believe. It’s fun to just unplug and run whatever makes you happy instead of trying to optimize gear with the latest that is offered each year. That’s why I went to running a M16 build and practicing core marksmanship.
@@tacticalcombatwombat9694 Yes sir - totally agree. No one can ever take your marksmanship skills away from you - even if they take your M16 build. You can take those skills and multiply the impact of an M4 quite well. Rock on brother!
I believe that every household needs to have an AR15, Glock 9mm, fire extinguisher, and other basic household tools But those are just tools. They're not supposed to make you happy. They just serve a purpose like any other household utility. I also recommend every American buy other guns that they love, for enjoying life.
I fully agree, I have always thought the same. Being fast on an ak47 is something special. To me it makes me feel like if I can do this with an ak, I can shoot anything. And aks are just so much funner to shoot and friends always pick the aks, Galil’s, rpks,vz58’s to shoot. Most people are amazed when I say I have a galil or rpk, there eyes light up and say can I shoot it.
I like both almost equally but for different reasons. However if I had to choose I think I'd go akm, there's just something about the esthetic and recoil impulse I like about it. Edit: I love my BERYL
I train with AR’s for serious stuff and shoot the AK’s for fun. I just enjoy shooting AK’s because the AR will always be a work gun to me and they are kind of boring.
I think your point is definitely valid. Anytime someone can learn and be proficient with a different manual of arms, the more competent you definitely are. The “which is better” argument was always useless, why not retain the right to be better with both am I right!
Surprisingly great video - well said! Especially training with an AK in 7.62x39 - after training with that a 5.45 Kalash or 5.56 AR is just child's play for the most part. I do think however, a Galil Ace in 5.56 just beats the AR in 8 out of 10-ish categories and has the exact same features as an AR (bolt hold open with stanag mags, convenient finger-released bolt, etc. It's truly the better than an AR since it's more reliable - down side I guess is long term parts availability and maybe after market support. Oh and the Ace is heavier - big deal - the ultra rugged reliability is worth a pound... (edited for confusing typo)
AKs are just so much fun, wild crazy drug-binging weekend at Bernie's fun - so much more than the limp AR - in every possible way. Except assembly/disassembly - the advantage is obvious there. Kalash day every day.
Being a kid of the 80’s the AK has its “vibe” going, but financially speaking, it’s hard enough supporting an AR platform and that makes the AK unfortunately untouchable here.
Huge bummer and I know the annoyance, bro. But you will come to a better place eventually and financially be able to have fun. Don't lose your fun goals or even dumb fantasies as they keep you alive sometimes - make them annoy you until you get there. Own your goals because they've owned you - you own this task if you truly want to. It took me 20 years to be able to afford my dream gun - but I got there. I let the goal drift away several times as I focused on real life and other important things, but it never drifted too far - I always hauled that dinghy back in. You got this.
Great video 👍 I'm on the AK and AR fence. Right now I have more AK 47 rifles in my collection 2 Arsenal Sam7 61, 1 Zastava m70, 1 Egyptian Maadi MISR 10, 2 WASR 10 1 Alpha build, 2 Romy G matching guns all original, 2 Romanian AK WUM-1, SAR-1, 2 DPMS anvils. I have some nice AR-15 also 2 LWRC, 2 SOLGW, 2 Aero precision M4A I and a couple of retro Windham Weaponry builds cause retro style ARs are my favorite. I also have some cool odd ball stuff that is a blend of both platforms.
Do you have a Galil Ace in 5.56?? It is the ultimate AK/AR hybrid by far. All the AR convenient crap with AK reliability mentality. Fantastic weapon if a wee bit heavy. (edited for spelling)
I have 2 ak’s and think of getting an ar because my buddies have them and why not right. I don’t think I want one anymore time to buy a krink or an akv
I love my AR, yeah they’re a bit basic now. Which is what’s pushing me toward the Bren/SCAR type rifles. The AK ergos just don’t work great for left hand shooters.
ARs are indeed boring, but sometimes, boring is best. I enjoyed the video and I think you're onto something in there being value in the challenge the AK gives.
Not new to firearms but new to ownership. Started with two ARs that were my first home builds. Looking for an AK now for diversity. Thanks for the advice
Oh hi Mark. Would love to see you run one of Krebs m23 in 556 at your next ak contest. And hear your feedback on it. Maybe Klay can beg borrow steal one for ya. Ak to keep the boredom away.
Suggestion for those who cannot justify buying an ak: 1. (Kind of joking) Remove your ARs bolt catch, or 2. (More serious) Buy a $200 psa ks47 lower and slap it on your existing AR upper. Then grab some ak mags. An ak experience for 20% of the cost
I finally got myself a Zastava and took it out to shoot over the weekend. I finally understand why people say AKs are "over gassed" and "punchy". Are there any ways to fix that? It's not that pleasant to shoot.
ARs are kinda cringe. Everyone has one and they all do the same sht. They all put emphasis on sub MOA and 'ma "mag changes" are faster' in combat overseas, that super duper fast mag reload never mattered... That accuracy didn't matter much either as youre shooting at where you think the enemy is
You got bored and switched to a platform that's less ergonomic, less accurate, less modular and more difficult to accessorize. There is nothing wrong with dumping money into a project. I look at the AR as having more options, in more calibers with more ways to make mine unique. Enjoy your journey.
AR's work, work better, are more modular and are "more good" duh 😛 If you want "harder" try the older MilSurp Bolt actions...or play with black powder repeaters.
@FitnFire Not entirely. They are still fire arms. Though I have wondered about a bow stage for something, just to let bow people compete & show how hard they are to use, in a proper war bow poundage. But really, to say "running AK makes X skill better" it very easy to point to even older bolt actions & day "why not use that?"
Getting "good" at a BAD thing doesn't make the person "better", it just shows how terrible they are at their use of time and their truly terrible decision making progress is.
The only argument in favor of the AK is that it's easier to teach people to use very quickly. It's a "hand out" gun: what you give to folks who hardly know how to use a rifle if shit pops off. It's why my home defense gun is a KP-9, because it's easy for my partner who doesn't have the desire to practice often can pick up and use if she needs to. But that's it. The AR is better in every regard if you have time to practice on the platform.
Efficiency in movement has nothing to do with “good” or “bad.” The AK is different and requires different thinking. Becoming exceptional at one thing and applying it to another is the point. Being closed minded only keeps you ignorant to the possibilities and expansion of horizons. …that and the AK has unalived more communists than an AR…sssoooo
@FitnFire Mass numbers do not make a thing "good" to use. That argument leads to "cancer being the best weapon." AR ergos are objectively better.
