You can tell that the dev was way too into incest lol 😂
Literally, he could have easily adopted a boy and then gone out to find a woman to then transfer both souls into.. but instead it ended up being a confusing plothole mess.

The calling Pinocchio for help ending is somewhat satisfying for some reason, Mia knew she'd be ded either way so having Gepetto's own creation turned on him liked rubbing salt on his wound and Pinnochio got a twisted happy ending.

It's a trash ending but like, outside of the cursed ending (which is the only good one) it's the most finite of the 4 avilable ones.

I also can't get over the "you're an orphan!" plot twist. It was definitely a way to make the "I want to use my daughter's body to be my dead wife's vessel" plan to be less creepy. At that point, you have a big tittied daughter, ass clap supreme abusive father, a toned up puppet who wants to "snuggle" his beloved sister, naked bath scenes to 'recover your health' and a B rated horror plot I could expect either from a literal hentai or something from the 80's- might as well go all the way and make it weirder. 😂
All in all, I hope the Game Dev's health recovers smoothly and great commentary from Manly as always.

As a side note, "Geppetto" in the novel was the name of the old carpenter, not his surname - and not even his name, but his nickname: his actual name was Giuseppe. Also, Pinocchio in the novel was alive all along since the very start - he was a minor Genius Loci, a living pine log (hence the name, "pinocchio", meaning pine seed). The fairy was just an advisor for him to be less of a jerk.

I think what would have made this game's story have more impact is that the father's resentment for his daughter was saved as a last minute reveal. I think if his daughter had grown up thinking that her father actually loved her and was secretly raising her as a vessel for his dead wife would have been a better way to go about this plot. Instead it kinda hits us over the head early on what some of the endings are going to be like. Also, i wasnt a fan of how 1 dimensionally evil the father was. Im sure the dev tried their best though. Always fun to watch Manly play these sort of games.

I think it's more like writers or devs not allowed for incest plot while the story already written, so they modify the story to be safer and allowed to be published

Goodness, I haven't seen a fanservicy game like this one in a looooooong time... And this one isn't even trying to hide that side of it.
Anyways, I think the Vampire ending is the best one, hands down. Man tries his whole life to manipulate the girl then use her, but then she just uses the jewel right in front of her and ends both him and the doll he's using to frighten her with. Also she gets Vampire descendants... VAMPIRE DESCENDANTS. I don't know about you but that sounds rad as heck.

I'm actually stuck between two ideas at the moment - one is 'yandere vTuber becomes obsessed with the MC after he comments on her Rule34 stuff with something heartwarming and ruins his life', and the other is 'guy dies and becomes a ghost, figures out that when he's outside of his body and hormones aren't affecting him he's pretty chill and kind of doesn't mind being dead until he discovers that there are things WAY WORSE than being dead he'd rather avoid even in ghost form'.
That all sounds like a lot of pretty nonsense and bullshit from someone who is just saying whatever in the comments of a TH-cam video, I understand, haha, but hopefully in a few months I can point back at this for fun!

Id summarize this game as "skillful but messy". In the sense that there was clearly time and effort put in and it goes beyond simply being functional and can be quite scary, but at the same time you can sort of see the stitches (or strings I suppose). The twists, character behavior, the hiding mechanic and untutorialized sprint, puzzles that are evidently more boring or bothersome than challening. It all speaks to a game design that seems to be covering over cracks revealed after things were already implemented.
As for the endings, I'd say 4 is best just because it leaves matters open-ended rather than the evil characters basically getting what they want anyway (5 a close second cause at least you get your soul still). 4 feels like the most natural lead into a new game that, despite the cracks in this one, I feel could effectively tie itself to this one without feeling limited by it.

I legit half wanted the twist ending to be that Pinocchio is actually the mother and he was trying to put his sons soul into his daughter.
Given how fast the doll grows up, it would make much more sense. Unfortunately dev doesn't seem to be the kinda person who put making sense on the top of their priority

The father stated at the beginning Pinocchio is created to be his son, and multiple paintings around the manor has hinted Mia bearing close resemblance to her mother. If there’s gonna be a twist, the dev definitely wasn’t gonna go there as an ending.
The vampire ending actually excites me, it makes me think that the developer is planning another game which will turn out to be connected to that ending. I hope if I'm right, Manly plays it

The hiding mechanic in this game is so funny to me. I can understand why the dev designed it this way, and I myself did the same thing back before I learned how to design a real hiding mechanic (which is way finickier than it looks), but it's just so funny how you can hide and instantly Pinocchio just disappears
On top of the hiding mechanic thing, there's also just the general hokeyness of rpgmaker games all throughout this game, and it's such a delight to me. Underground passages, abandoned churches, abandoned laboratory, all connected to an old manor, it really lays it on thick and genuine that it's honestly such a delight to watch. In a way it's just so campy and I love it
Gotta give credit to the developer. Definitely had an eye on Mia's "DETAILS".

I enjoy these games really; I don't think they need the fanservice, but it's there for those that enjoy it. I hope these people keep up making games! Thank you Manly for showing them to us.

In various cultures throughout different time periods the son has been seen as the important one, either because women weren't allowed to do anything anyways, or because a son was the only one that could carry on the family name since the female would take on the husbands name (and in some cultures, their family) and if one had only daughters this was seen as the end of your family line.
This is why when China had a law about how many children you could legally have without paying an extra fee, a lot of baby girls were either killed or left to die on the roadside or given to orphanages with the family hoping they could have a son and carry on the family bloodline and surname.
Within the western world, girls were seen as expensive as the family had to pay for the dowry if they wanted their daughter to have a good match, and would often have to pay for the entire wedding. This specific tradition is often seen carried on even in this day and age when the brides father traditionally pays for everything, although more recently the groom and grooms family have started stepping in and helping pay also. Until women started working/voting/etc in the eyes of the world they were often seen as little more than young housewives good for nothing more than doing first a father then a husbands bidding and keeping a happy home.
The story isn't the greatest I will admit, but it has some merits and you can't just say a father scorning their daughter when there wife and only son just died is poor writing. There's a reason this and other tropes are often used tropes after all.

There's an unusual sense of hand-holding in this game. Blatant visible interaction prompts, the game bold face telling you the rules and tricks with avoiding the enemy.
Honestly its really cool to see how much the dev has improved with their sprite work. Like the detail and movement, not just the yiddies but like the fabric of her dress and the subtle hair movement is so much better. Theyve done an amazing job. Its still noticable but no longer as distracting as it was in Alessa

That whole scene near the beginning where Gepetto was berating Mia had the same level of writing as one of Dhar Mann’s “Abusive Parent” videos. I was honestly expecting Mia to do a dramatic turn towards him and say something like “beware, father. What happens in the dark always comes to light”.
