not sure if this is helpful seven months later, but thought i would answer anyways. when you have an ed your body is in starvation mode. in treatment you will begin to adequately fuel your body, and it won't need to be in starvation mode anymore. your metabolism and digestive system and every other food related process in your body will regulate. your body will also settle into its set point weight, which is the weight that your body is meant to be at. every body does not have the same set point weight. there is no worse or better set point weight, its just the weight that your body is happiest being at. when i began treatment, i had an average weight for my height and age. i have no idea how much weight i've gained, but i know that i have gained some. chances are you will gain weight in treatment. if you gain weight in treatment it is because it is necessary for your body to do so. if hearing that scares you, you are not alone. i was terrified about gaining weight in treatment because i already thought that i was too heavy. i know how scary deciding to start treatment is, but let me tell you, it is so so worth it. going to treatment made my life worth living again. recovery is a decision that i make every day, and it's hard and feels like an uphill battle most of the time, but it's infinitely better than living with an ed. don't let a fear of change stop you from getting help. your body changing is okay. gaining weight is okay. neither of those things make you less worthy of love and happiness. you deserve to recover and experience a life that doesn't revolve around food and suffering.
