Yeh, I thought they were too, until I bought mine and found out it’s not. I like the retained bar nuts. So far the cover has been fine…but I’m going to see if the earlier versions were metal…for some reason I think they were and didn’t have retained bar nuts
Like Makitas this is a straight commercial grade saw line that aint have fill saws like home, farm etc which increases costs of saws for that maker. When i visit Makita, Echo, Zenoah they are all one grade saws which makes it easy to not waste time in shop comparing with others. It keeps dealer showroom less cluttered too
I have the Shindaiwa version 501sx. Also had older 490 for a long time with never a single issue. Fulfills all the requirements of a great saw. Reliable, tough, easy starting, comfortable, excellent power to weight, good parts availability. Spend your money on the saw, not marketing and decor.
Thanks for the video, lots of good info. Still unsure if I should buy the 501p or the 550xp. The 501p is cheaper and lighter. But I only had Huskys and Stihls until today. I like brands I know but Indon’t like carrying extra weight anymore… For me, all the “15 seconds cut” vs “22 seconds cut” tests are pointless, unless you cut non stop 8 hours a day every day, it doesn’t make a difference productivity wise. Anyway, thank you again for the video.
In all honesty, you couldn’t pay me to take a Husky 550 or a Stihl 261…the amount of issues with the huskies and Stihl’s with their computer carbs and plastic crank bearing cages…not designed to last. The Echo saws won’t vapour-lock on you like the huskies do when they are hot and you shut them off. They run the inboard rim sprocket, so putting chains on or other maintenance is super easy and everything is straightforward with the user in mind, not like the other two that want to make sure you have to bring it back to the shop for diagnosis etc. If you think Honda and Toyota are Japan, think Echo because it is also Japanese with some components from USA. The others are jobbing out to China. Echo has been great for any parts availability (probably because they are well built to start with) vs Husky especially with over 6 months delays for some stuff. Also, Echo has the best Warranty out there. I’m not a dealer and I don’t make a dime from any brand (nor from TH-cam) I just hate seeing people get hosed…I wish Echo would be more active in promoting their products, but they seem very traditional about their quality will speak for itself…they other 2 have got everyone drinking their cool aid. Speaking of not making money, please like and subscribe if you haven’t yet…I take a fair bit of time out of my day to answer questions and shoot vids to help people out, when I should be working on saws that actually make me money 😉👍 Good luck with whatever you decide.
@@mmodnao thanks, I appreciate it. You can look thru my vids, I’ve done some on the Husky crank bearings and heating issues and also some on the Stihl m-tronic, rebuilt a 261 a couple times for a tree guy, replaced the fuel solenoid and filter too and it kept blowing up…I pressure and vacuum test everything every time I do a rebuild…maybe dull chain…
@@mmodnao I’m not sure if you have an Echo dealer there that will let you demo a saw. They do that up here in Calgary and it’s great because you get a chance to test it before you buy…just make sure they do a good run thru with you…or I can do a vid…I’ve got a nearly new 501 that isn’t even broken in yet…I noticed quite a difference in it vs the Echo 4910
In in Gatineau near Ottawa…no need to look for a demo saw as I ordered a 501p yesterday. I tried a cs-400 a long time ago so I remember how they feel. Anyway, I’ll let you know how it performs in a few weeks. Will not do a muffler mod or mess with its settings in any way. Really appreciate your feedback.
@scottsouthwell4968, thanks for checking out my channel, please like and subscribe😉 Try google or just check Lowes (Husqvarna chainsaw flip caps) the stores use their own parts numbers. Like I said, I find them in stock at Lowes, the husky dealers are always back ordered. Good luck 😎👍
Here in Canada, it’s the ignition, handlebar (aluminum vs plastic) and retained bar nuts on the 501…if you’re in Europe, may also be a light weight bar?
@@jimssawsnstuff8903 I'm in Europe.. but I don't know any of differences except price which is 200$.. there is no change in engine ? Cylinder, piston and crankshaft are same quality ?

For the longest time, I thought my 501 had a magnesium clutch cover like my 620, until one day while I was cleaning it I finally realize it wasn’t.

Tractor supply also has the flip caps
Caps doesn't fit into oil fill hole. You must of have grinded it .
What is difference between them ? 4910 is 200 $ cheaper in my place, that is huge difference...
