The latter is considered one of Yuzo Koshiro’s best works, and while it’s good I’m in the camp that feels that the super Shinobi 2 has the better soundtrack. Nothing against Koshiro (Streets of rage 2 was both a technical and musical masterpiece). Just my opinion though.
Growing up with the Nes and Super Nintendo, i never realized how good looking Genesis games were. The developers for the Genesis really created some interesting stages, special effects and boss battles. Something that the Snes couldnt do at speed very well. Im blown away at some of the games now that im 41. Im so glad emulation is an option these days. Im tearing through some of these classics today.
The first section (17:58) of the final stage captures the tone of the setting perfectly. The moon along with the clouds passing by just makes it even better.

I never understood why, in the elevator section, the elevator platform was able to go through the floors, but our player couldn’t. I understand from a game development level, but it always seemed odd to me.
Watching people tell TAS creators who put hundreds of hours into their craft that they are actually wrong with such conviction never fails to crack me up. Please get a grip
It is a Tool Assisted Run; basically programming an algorithm to speed through the game with inputs queued up at specific points per frame, sometimes allowing for inputs impossible for humans to do (e.g. reverse boosting in the original mario on NES, which has the program pressing left and right at the same time, something impossible to do on real hardware, since the directional pad has a pit in the middle that it rocks on) to complete a run as fast as possible. Short answer: Yes.

Genesis had some SOLID titles. I'm the same age but went the NES -> Genesis route. Got a disc of Genesis games that works on Xbox 360!

Played this game constantly as a kid, only actually beat it once. The difficulty spike on the last stage is crazy and I usually choked.
