In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov shows how to refute one of his favorite chess openings, the Rousseau Gambit. It is a variation of the Italian Game that arises after the following moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 f5.
The Rousseau Gambit is one of the most aggressive openings for Black against the Italian Game. Nevertheless, GM Smirnov teaches how to counter it as White. You will also learn the most common attacking ideas for White, the typical responses of Black, and some deadly traps.

If free, then why did you put a dollar emoji?😅
Took chess back up after 50 years...Am not as quick on the draw as in my youth but your videos I will study in turn to keep my brain semi active. Thanks Igor
Report to TH-cam as this video is too violent - gotta love Igor
Igor in your Accelerated Dragon video you forgot to cover the most important variation, the Marcoxy Bind which most experienced players will play. How to handle it and keep attacking ideas for black
I Hope my opponents don’t watch this video! Rousseau gambit forever!!!
😂😂😂 😂😂
I do
I hate this opening glad I watched this🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's fine...next month expect a refutation to the refutation...😂😂
there is already one on "Endgame Strategies" channel 😂
Disliking this video so fewer people learn how to counter my favorite gambit

19:37 Puzzle of the day
The Chess's Puzzle of the day:🧩♟☀️.
1. g3 Rh6
2. Qxc7 Bd6
3. Qxc6 bxc6
Love your videos Igor. Any counters or gambits available against the scotch? As a 1600 player I struggle to get an edge when playing against it.
Try 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Nxd4 Qh4!?
Rook h6 ,Qxc7,Bd6
Did you saw my answer? (Honestly)
@@farouqbaiti4315 what answer?
The Chess's Puzzle of the day:🧩♟☀️.
1. g3 Rh6
2. Qxc7 Bd6
3. Qxc6 bxc6
Sorry if I was wrong about you.😅.
I am subscribed to you by the way.👍🏻
So basically the queen is trapped after ...Rh6? Too cool. 😎 I have an aversion to playing symmetrical. So I never get these positions bc I'm not playing D or E if white does. I play e6/b6 bc no one does & it seems to throw people sometimes. Around 1300 ELO...this is the Vienna in reverse. The refutation (d4) that no one but bots play usually, is the same also 😂
@@loc7909I used to have aversion to e4 e5 too but after learning the Busch Gass gambit I’ve a pretty good time with it. My last two opponents blunder the exact same mate on turn 14 and I win using only 10 second on my clock in a rapid game. And they’re both over 1600.
thank you sir for all this great videos
I’ve been studying and playing the Rousseau gambit for a few months now and I’ve seen all of the tactics white can throw at you. Regardless, it’s still a great opening to play as long as you know to handle yourself when white makes the correct plays. I’ve already taken my beatings so it is still my automatic response to the Italian and the Ruy Lopez
You are the best - Smirnov
New level of snark and sarcasm in this video!! lol!
6:57
white to move after black’s move d6. White attacks knight again with f4. Black needs to move knf7, NOT knd7.
For the puzzle at the end, I believe the move should be Nd4 to attack the c2 pawn, if white plays Na3, black can play Bxa3 to remove the defender and then execute the Nxc2 followed by Nxa1 idea. If white plays Kd1 to defend c2, Bg4+ will force it go back. If white is stubborn and block with f3, exg3 will set up a dangerous discovered check by f2 and white really has no way to handle all the threats
Oh, I just ckecked with Stockfish, this is wrong because Qh8 after Ba3 forks the king and knight. Correct move should be Rh6, after white plays Qxc7 which is the only safe square of the queen, Bd6 traps the queen
Y'all, it's fine. He's going to post a refutation to this in like a month! :)
next against schliemann defence
The wueens trapped, rh6, qxc7, be6? First to solve?
Oh no can't change it now touch move. You don't wanna play chess against egor nation we'll trap your wueens
@gmigorsminov did i get it right?
Is it Rh6, Qc5 only move, than Bd6 trapping the queen?
How about 4. Exf5 e4 5. N d4 nxd4 6.Qh5+ ?
Thanks Igor as usual a great pleasure watching you!!
D4
Bro actually found a way to beat an unbeatable gambit
Igor this is your best video this year couldnt stop smile 😂🎉
My man refused himself 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥
Hi Igor
Salut to you
I think white queen is trapped being at h7
1) Qh7 Rg6h6
2) Qxc7 Bf8d6
waiting for your reply
love respect & regards for you Bye
For the puzzle, I think it's Rh6 trapping the queen. If white a4, black rook take the queen and take rook on h1. If white c4, black queen g4 and white queen is still trapped
Rh6, Qxc3 followed by Bd6 wins the Queen
After 5 ... d5 surely 6 Qh5+ is better than 6 Bb5? Whatever the answer, I think your videos are brilliant Igor, opening my mind to all sorts of new lines!😊
I love your sarcasm today. If you are in Bangkok with your partner, we can go out for a drink.
I could complain these moves are hard to remember, or my opponents always do something else, but ultimately, if I can't figure out what to do, it's my fault.
Wow 😳
heartbreaking
👏
that was MY ENTIRE REPORTOIRE!!! NOOOOOO
What's Ur rating
Mine too! 😂 … and it still is. I mean if White plays Spanish or Italian there’s no better gambit than this.
@@Lordridam14 1700 on lichess
It's "sad" but also great.😅👌🏻
It's "sad" because 1% of my opponents is with the Igor Nation.😅
It's great because I can finally play the Italian Game safely.😇 I was waiting for this moment.💪🏻
Why do you do this to me bro? This was my main opening
bro trolled anish
1... Rh6 2. Qxc7 Bd6!! traps the Queen.
rook h6 at the final question, only move for queen is capture c7, then black bishop d6, queen trapped
edit: white can delay by knight h3 threatening queen trade immediately after Rh6. but black play queen g4, repeating the previous situation
how to play black
Why you did this it is my main opening
Noooooo
Don't do this to me bro
It's all I know
Nonononono
Don't do this to me bro
Bruh...I only play 1.e4 Refuted...
Rook to H6, Queen to C7, Bishop to D6. White Queen is captured.????
But you shouldn't be sad because now only the igor-nation can use the gambit ,and anyone else won't be
You destroyed my favourite gambit.
The Rousseau Gambit has not been refuted from my end. I have a line that has been researched by Stockfish that states that Black might be down the exchange but happens to be doing better with a Protected Passed Pawn and good Piece Play. I will show you the line and see what you think.

Ok then, i'll report this video 😂😂
Noo. We've been betrayed. I want to like but that will boost its popularity so I don't know what to do. Igor help
7:18 Although black will end up in a ruined and losing position, he can in fact cover both direct threats by playing Ne7, guarding the rook on g8 and granting the king an escape square on d7.
NOOOO :(
Do more beginner videos. Essentially how beginners have no plan whatsoever. That there only plan is to check. Because the majority of the opening you show are fended by cheaters that suddenly aren’t cheating that game or just aren’t cheating as much and they really don’t match their rating with their moves at all. And I reiterate their only plan is that they have no plan and they see a check they think that they win the game
If im the first to solve i get to say Rusou gambit IS trash
'NEVER PUSH YOUR F PAWN'
-gm findgold
Just pull out a bishop or a horse play a real game of chess. This gambit is too trappy too much memorization too many land mines. Stop trying to win in the opening your not doing yourself any favors. You just want to get the main ideas try a new opening dont get bogged down. Forget one unintuitive move and die is not good for amateur players.
