Hard decision between this or divorce
The lens doesn't nag so it's a no brainer.
There's always selling organs.
Unlike your wife, this lens will most likely still look great and give you pleasure even when you're an old man.
In fact you are ensured to get both...
Why not Both?
Just wait for the $139 Yongnuo version.
mitakon version $799
Brilliant
LOL!
Just think how many portrait subjects will be improved by the Yongnuo's rendering. The extraordinarily small sweet spot and the vanishingly thin depth of field (so-called) will force the photographer to emphasize any subject's best feature, assuming that the feature in question is not much larger than a dimple or a couple of beautiful eyelashes.
@@wanhl2440 camera labs had a comparison. head there to see how $799 looks at f/0.95 (hint: insert poop emote)
@@neonspark707 it's actually useable after color grading, add sharpening and removal of CA in photoshop. Both on 1.2 it is similar to f1.2 on old Canon 50 1.2L EF but cheaper.(of course it is manual lens)
gets the opportunity to test out an eight grand lens, first thing Kai does: a selfie test.
Harukazarous and when he does not walk away and leave it on a tripod he is walking around holding it with one hand with a camera attached!
Better a selfie test, rather than a sniff and wind tunnel test though ;)
Best test for an $8,000 lens is to take a few dozen pictures of your keyboard, that's how you really test it right.
It's only logical

Nikon: Kai, can you review our lens please?
Kai *puts on Pentax cap
Kai *puts on a sign of death and decay on his head
Same :D
Marketing department of Pentax: Thank god someone still remembers us.
Young TH-cam viewers: is it a sub brand of UNICLO?
It's not new to him...you should all watch him and Lok during their DigitalRev era. They are funnier thren than now.. I still love the Nikon body with Canon strap vice versa.
😅🤣😂 Excellent indeeeeeeed 👌
I wonder if his insurance agent watches his videos walking around with a £8k lens and no strap.
th-cam.com/video/uDHQ5lXZGTo/w-d-xo.html Looks like a 300mm f4, so definitely not as pricy.
I got anxiety watching that.
8 grand lens, 2 grand camera, out on the street, at night...I hope your Kung Fu Skills are up to scratch, Kai Man Wong.
Kai isn't Linus.
I'm thinking my God, there he is, no strap, one handed, waving it mindlessly, with each word of his sentence.... surely this is a gag..... there has to be a net under him, nobody is that stupid, careless and reckless.....
Alternative title: "Kai gets noct up"
Made me laugh out pretty loud
Of all the years I’ve watched you wave cameras around without straps on digitalrev, only now am I legitimately terrified when you do it
Honestly, I'm filing this vid's genre under "thriller/suspense."
About that last point you made. I made the mistake of trying out a 200 F2 10 years ago. Never touched a 70-200 since then.
Julien Mahiels I had a similar experience with the 135mm F2 L
Completely understand. Getting a chance to check out the 105 F1.4 (Nikon) and 135 1.8 (Sigma) has that affect for me going back to zooms covering that range or other telephoto primes.
Kai saving Pentax one hat at a time. ;D
Pentax is actually profitable, while Nikon is in deep doodoo.
I can't wait to never purchase this lens
Does that mean you are buying? Can't + never = buy
My brother in law had, or still has, one of those old Canon 7 rangefinder cameras with the f0.95 lenses and I remember it was really soft. I haven't seen it since about 1982. I'm old.
$8K is very expensive but if Nikon does a limited run on this I believe it will worth close to double in 10 years.
"these are some very advanced optics"
Uses the lens for selfies
"Hey Google. What do you get for a kidney?"
Jail.
@@dash3dotI think it's annoying when someone donates ts a kidney, there considered a hero, but when I donate 20 I get thrown in jail!
Nothing if you're in china
Literally none of us are buying it 😂😢
I might when its $100 on Ebay
sharpvidtube ha! I’d get a couple if I were you 😂😂
I get the f1.2/58mm Rokkor for my A7 class camera instead. Lacks of coating, aspherical elements and buttons or a screen, but it is just about ~400-500 bugs on ebay. Should be nice at f1.7 or 2.8, same as the Noct or any other historical or contemporary lens in this focal range. This lens is more of a feasibility study than a serious lens, too long or short for stars, too short for sports or portrait.....it's just a toy for oligarch's kids, same a Koenigsegg or a Pagani or a Bugatti.
LCdrDerrick yeah I agree, I’m only jealous because I could never afford one 😂
@@LCdrDerrick Probably great for food and product photography in a studio, but how often is anyone going to use it wide open.

"And then we can pull this, pull this up.... *NOTHING!!* ..."
I don't even understand why I laughed so hard at this 🤣🤣🤣
There must be something about the 58mm focal length. Back in the late 1960s I bought a Minolta SRT101 and the choice was between a 50/1.7 and a 58/1.4 Rokkor. The latter was a wow back then, as this 58/0.95 is today.
40mm-60mm is the standard focal length.
Don't forget the mighty 58mm f1.2 rokkor
I...don't want to mean anything bad but honestly have no idea why people care so much for the shape and size of some bokeh
I think you have a different understanding of what bokeh is.
Bokeh is an indicator of the quality of the out of focus elements. Once you've shot with professional lenses, you'll immediately understand. It's like getting your vision corrected. Going back to cheap lenses is no longer an option.
@@Feintgames and yes, imo that's he most overrated aspect in photography. just me of course
The Noct is a complete MONSTER! - Good review Kai ... Great to see Lok again 😎
Haven't seen Kai for years. Glad I found this channel. Awesome presenter as always !
"Snap Bridge, works, sorta, well."
My first experience summed up right there.
Just bought it, very happy
So many other reviewers just dismissed this lens because it doesn't have autofocus. Kai seems like the only one left who doesn't have a prejudice about Nikon and is able to look at their new products with an open mind. Others are just whining about not having a flip-out screen.
Forget the lens lmao, love that Rolex 126710 BLRO “Pepsi” on the wrist Kai, wear it in good health! Cheers.
Thumbs up for the Pentax hat! I think I'll stick with my 58 mm f1.4G. With my eyes, I doubt if I could focus the Noct.
The bokeh is like 10 times better than my Nikon MF 50mm f/1.2 Nikkor. Amazing!
I never noticed how much Lok looks like an evil mastermind before this video! MUAHAHAHA!!
I love my Nikkor 85mm 1.8. It was only $400 and it's all the quality I'd ever need
Thanks for the review! Always enjoy watching Kai and Lok together! Is it possible you do a review on Nikon mirriorless camera + adaptor for dslr lenses?
Hope you are enjoying your vacation. Be safe.
That bokeh is pretty creamy, but there are a couple of lenses that beat that with a whole nutha level of creamy! The Minolta/Sony 135/2.8 STF is my pick for creamiest bokeh ever, although unless you shoot Sony A-mount or adapt it to Sony FE then it's not an option for most peeps. It also has a t stop of t/4.5 due to its apodization filter, and is manual focus only, but it's capable of stunning creamy images! I bought mine brand new but discounted for 1/10th the price of that Noct!
fun how everyone forgets about leicas pricing when complaining about this one ;D
Was hoping Kai & Lok would take this to Hong Kong, and make a super Bokehlicious video. Two lenses. Filmed with one on a Z6. Trolley ladies photographed with one on a Z7.
Next up: Zeiss f/-1.2
"The aperature blades literally come OUT of the lens!"
You got me thinking. I'm not scentist, but I guess it has to have a negative focal length to result in a negative f number. Like -50mm with an aperture size of 42mm. It's hard to imagine, and physically impossible, and probably useless! I assume it would see as far behind itself that it would be capturing the light in front of it by bending it backwards and sucking it in! Ah, my head hurts, lol.
@@nostalium I guess it's just a lens that never focuses. So if you have one broken, you can say it is f/-smth.
@@nostalium a negative focal length would probably be like a 360 cam.
And then you buy a Leica Noctilux-m 75mm F/1.25 for $15.000 and it comes in a cardboard box from Germany without any protection :D
Or the patek philippe nautilus which comes in a plastic wrap :D
The Leica NOCTILUX-M 75 1:1,25 comes well protected in a huge box, with cases etc. I would be bothered to have another useless pelicase just for one objective.
Kai is such a Boss he can toss some else's camera and lens at like that in the end.
William Pupo Right!! I was shocked at that part where he...

"Noisy AF" - Noisy Auto Focus??
not sure if you're joking but he meant noisy as f*ck :)
@@some90sKid r/whoosh
he was talking about the GH5 low light image is quite noise.
Awesome optic, Too expensive lens, Crispy Kaiw video as always. Waiting for Nikkor F 2.8 70-200 s line. Keep going.
Can the package survive the front porch FedEx toss?
When you display the images on the screen, are they post edit or is it literally just when you take the shot? Just looks so amazing on color and so damn sharp.
As a Canon shooter i am deeply impressed by this lens.
Just lok being there already makes this video better
Why would you need 2 focus indicators right on top of each other?
This lens, with the z6, and the new raw video firmware, could be the cinema, full frame, powerhouse under 10k. I really think this lens was for video, more than images.
I think it's more targeted to star photography so the z7 with the higher resolution would make more sense
Kai there's no noise from the GH5, I'm watching on a 40" 4K screen. Not that matters at this point but yeah clean footage.
So sad I didn't go and see you in KL! So 0.95 is only an extra stop of light from f1.4 right? Makes you wonder if it's really worth all the extra weight and cost.
I am very happy with my Mitakon 35mm f0.95 for Fuji!
That’s not even close to this lens as the Mitakon is APS-C.
£8000 and not Haribos, that is wrong
£8300
“Noisy AF because I’m shootings on GH5”. Looks totally fine.
Don't you know everything over ISO 400 is considerd noisy AF? ;)
It's because TH-cam video bitrates are so low that the encoding eats all the noise. We just don't see it in the final product.
In the 7:28 shot, you can find evidence of it in the compression artifacts. The noise is just so high-frequency that the cosine transform components that encode it are omitted.
WHY would a lens of that size need a case THAT LARGE
Jeff Smudde 8 grand
I think its so if you needed to use an $8000 lens, you could probably put in your camera in there as well. Kinda an option if you just wanted to pack the essentials and work off of this lens. I'm sure most people probably wont do it, but its an option.
to fill it with all the other great nikon mirrorless len-wait no, nevermind.
Why would anyone need f0.95
@@thisistheendpt2 Its a dinky extension for camera guys.
Nikon: 3 days later you should give it back.

I am torn between the nikon d750 and the sony a7iii after my nikon d3100. The price difference is an issue and the fact that i still have to buy lenses is just too much. the fact that i already have the nikon 50mm f1.8 and the preice difference between the two cameras makes me lean more towards the d750. but i feel like the sony a 7iii is the future and the d750 is too old. ANY ADVICE?
I wonder what the Nikon 58 1.2 Noct will be now with this launched. That’s such a old lens but has always been desired. How much will it drop? Or will it go up since not many can afford $8k for a lens.
supply and demand. All the demand for the lens as a work lens will drop because of this lens, but given it is no longer made and there is only so many, it will never really drop to nothing considering it has collector status for a good sample copy.
Serious piece of glass. The amount of cash it can put out of focus is outstanding.
What's inside the booklet that is so easy to break? Sensitive information?
Naughty boy! "There are plenty of surprises once you pick the noct up, mount it..."
Always fun to watch. But serious now, lack of almost all DOF sounds a bit unpractical right?
I wonder how large the image circle is. I wouldn't be completely surprised if it is large enough for Fuji's medium format cameras. Most of the Sigma art lenses are and the 105mm f/1.4 is especially absurd.
GFX-50S G-Mount has a Diameter of 65mm, Flange-back distance of 26.7mm & minimum back focus distance of 16.7mm. (It uses as many as 12 electronic contact points for sending and receiving data, plus it supports the use of a wide variety of lenses and accessories). Nikon Z-mount has 55 mm diameter & 16mm Flange distance.
@@chirag4 those measurements have little to do with image circle though. Image circle is the actual diameter of the "projected image* at a given focus distance. Large format lenses for example have a relatively small rear element but project a image circle anywhere from 6 to 35 inches in diameter. Image circle is also why some fish eye lenses produce a circle image as opposed to covering the full sensor.
6:09 looks like quite a bit of CA, so shooting stars wide open may not be an option (just like most of the fast Canon L lenses), but shooting foreground subjects with starry bokeh would be pretty spectacular.
mostly toward the edges.
canon also has a 50mm f-0.95 lens a lens with 7 elements in 5 groups.from 1961 called 50 mm f/0.95 "Dream Lens ,58 years before Nikon. i dont know about Leica if they had a 0.95 back then
Wow!! That is one awesome lens!!!
17 elements in a fix focal lenght lens, are you kidding
You are correct, quite ridiculous...
Mitakon has a .95 for Z Mount for $699. Will blow this Noct to hell.... Of course it is manual though.
What a bargain.. I'll take 2!
I love that Northface yellow jacket. Any idea what model it is?
I want to own it, even as a very expensive paperweight, just so I know that I have what most of the population doesn’t. It’s a Collector’s Item that will surely increase in value over time
not sure that box was too convincing but the video and info was lish, lush, cush, nice bokeh. Cant think of many lenses besides Takumar that has such nice bokeh. What you getting for xmas , tee hee?
You may use altar wherever you are from; however, in the U.S., it is spelled alter. Look it up!
A got a black chrome LHSA summicron 50aa and now looking at this. Still prefer mine, bc it's way smaller
My problem with this is the Bokeh Balls are Cats Eyes (rather than round) a long way into the image at any of the wider apertures.... and I'd like them round, as I think it's more Cinematic.
Also you could buy a Canon 200/2 with enough change for a non-low-end FF camera.
Do you actually take photographs?
@@thethirdman225 Yes, and shoot video, hence I bought the Sigma 50/1.4 Art where you get circular bokeh balls (except not quite when looking right in the corners when completely wide open) plus a nice transition from in to out of focus (not a complaint about the Nikon there)... Plus auto-focus...
Note I said "I'd like them round, as I think it's more Cinematic" which shows that's my opinion, not stating a fact, others can vary a lot on this.
(Although I do have a MF lens attached to my mirrorless camera as I type.)
@@JonInLondon Anyone who worries about bokeh balls and cat's eyes...
@@thethirdman225 ...probably cares about the look of their photos and especially videos? Plus I'm entitled to my opinion and others to theirs. I think they got that wrong. My view.

*_"probably cares about the look of their photos and especially videos?"_*
Probably cares about things that are unimportant and is clueless on the things that really matter. I see all kinds of people on these boards claiming to be photographers. None of them talks like a photographer. The issue of bokeh - and more amusingly, "bokeh balls" - invariably takes centre stage and the subject is pushed to the background, if it is ever discussed at all. How can anyone claim to care about their pictures if the subject is so unimportant as to not merit mention? Since there is no objective measure for bokeh, it staggers me that anyone seriously bothers arguing about it.
Buy what you ever like and start talking about the things that matter.
Bokeh will not make your pictures better. Subject matter and execution will.
*_"I'm entitled to my opinion and others to theirs."_*
Of course you are. So am I.
my favourite 50mm f/1.4 cost me $10, i've gotten 55mm f/1.4s for not much more than that and my 54mm f/1.0 equivalent for 4x5 was free.
The Pentax hat completely got me off guard. Immediate like.
Pentax=❤️
Glad you like this lens. Fro boy hates it and he’s never even touched it.
Fro admit it that îs no good with manual focus lenses...he does not have a good eye vision. He shoots ONLY AF.
Fro’s opinion isn’t worth much of anything... but gotta say, hard to see much practical use for this lens. More a technology proof of concept. Get the same focal plane with a slightly dimmer, slightly longer focal range (with great autofocus, great optics, a much lower price, and without even touching up on getting your full subject into focus or composing them in their environment).
What a lens. Not the cheapest one. But it’s impressive in which direction the development goes. Not the worst way I think.
I got a manual f1.05 50mm sony fe 7 artisans and that is so good
What a lens, in the meantime i am rocking with my ordinary 58 1.4...
Looks like a modern Leica, with some Cooke typography. Could do amazing things with this lens.
This lens is about half a stop faster than my Nikon 55mm f/1.2 lens (which I converted to AI). Is it sufficiently better to justify the huge price difference?
Why didn't he use MF assist eve magnification? This is a perfect situation to use it.
Why don't they make a 'Focus adjust' so you set it manually and when you auto focus it only makes a very minor adjustment if needed to be 100% in focus.
just use focus peaking. way better.
BTW, in the UK it's £8300, which is $11.2k

17 elements is a lot of glass. How does it do for color saturation and for microcontrast?
Micro contrast is Zeiss advertising blather.
The balls on the man just free handing the camera with a $8,000 lens. The absolute mad lad.
I think we need more lenses like this because 85mm is too restrictive.
Every system should have a 50mm f1.0.
Really wish Fuji had stuck with 33f1.0 for their halo portrait lens. Not that the 85mm FoV is bad, I'm sure I'd generally prefer it for the lack of perspective distortion, but when I had an 85mm lens it felt impossible to use indoors. Not a versatile focal length.
