    Thank you, Niall. For some reason, many gardeners stop filming in the winter which makes no sense to me. I'm often busier in the winter moving things around and trimming things back than I am in the summer. I'm extremely grateful to you for the year-round coverage of your gardens. Take care, DA

    I have really enjoyed your videos over the last year. This is my second time watching this one as I am longing for spring. I wash the trunks of my silver birch tree and it looks beautiful, especially at night with moonlight on it. I saw Alan Titchmarsh washing his and it's a great idea.

    Thanks for showing us your garden. I really enjoyed the tour. I have recently planted a tiny Hazel contorta bought in a pot from the garden centre, like the tree you showed right at the end of the video. It was lovely to see one in your garden in a larger form.

    Now I'm definitely longing for spring even more! My mood is swinging between hibernation and let's have spring already these days, especially with the weather being either frosty of very rainy. Well, we'll just have to give in to those feeling I guess. Lots of garden jobs to keep me busy over the winter, so spring will come around soon enough ;-)
    I love what you've done, opening up those views and letting more air and light into the garden. It looks so different and more truly garden like already. The garden sure is loving your attention and care, showing its colors and beauty even more! Debbie

My sister will be moving to Galway soon and she wants to replicate her Meditarranean garden in her next posting. Naill. You’ve been very lucky to inherit so many lovely trees. As you know we both have a conifer issue. But you for sure have more to deal with than me ! Great to open up the view of farm land. Love the ponds you have and different styles.
    Reducing the height of hedge next to the polytunnel allows so much more light into the new veg garden but whats left hide sufficient amount, so the p/tunnel doesn’t seem so overbearing. From your photo you posted in the week. Im jumping to conclusions that it maybe for the new raised beds !
    So looking forward to those going in and being planted up.
    You work so hard, not only rewarding yourself but us also. You’re becoming or maybe already have become my new favourite gardening channel. Knowledge, presentation, ease of viewing and mostly total enjoyment. The only down side is (just being totally greedy here) only one video a week. But perhaps thats why it makes your uploads extra special.

      That is such a kind thing to say - I'm loving making the content so that people like yourself can share in what I'm doing. It motivates me to keep going with it because I know that people are watching, are interested, and care about the garden... kinda like we all get to share a little bit of it.

    That new intro is something else Niall - fantastic stuff honestly. The story you told about the Cornus is beautiful, and I don't just mean what it meant to you, but the actual story of it over the year, really amazing. I agree with you on the beauty of the Betula Pendula (another cool name!) in winter - I love the way their tips become almost a sea of red when there's lots of them (and I say that as someone who spent about two years of my life cutting down birch trees on Heathlands!).
    Really cool to see how everything is related to each other and joined up - I hadn't realised how everything was laid out. There's so many other things I could write about but I don't want to write you an essay 😂 - suffice to say this video bought me a lot of joy, I had a massive smile on my face the whole time. Absolutely love to see this.

    Lovely tour Niall I have a huge smoke bush (tree) and it’s gorgeous when in full colour. Around the pond at the back you can also plant some Lucifer or crocosmia they are super easy to look after and self spreading. So nice your mom comes over to help out. Did you shred a lot of those tree branches? Holy the opening up behind the poly tunnel is a fantastic view. No problem! It's a 'Wedding Cake Tree' and the latin name is Cornus contraversa variegata ☺️

    Fantastic! I vote for a mixed wildlife friendly hedge with edibles such as black/red and white currants. Maybe 3 shrubs deep. 👍🙂❤️

      Sounds great! I do love the idea of an edible hedge!

    i wonder how true is it that the warm air of the Gulf Stream from the mexican gulf goes up to hatteras crosses the atlantic and passes thru the other side of your country ireland bringing warm to your land even in the winter, and on to norway disappearing completely north of murmansk in russia?

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So! Because this is where we live, we actually had to study this in geography class when I was in school! You're 100% correct, the Gulf Stream makes the irish climate a temperate maritime climate with cool summers and mild winters. We're really very lucky with our climate, except that it makes it difficult to get a suntan in the summer! 😂

    In my area of the US developers and home owners plant a lot of leyland cypress because they grow quickly. Then they quickly get overwhelming.

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah they're so fast-growing. Great at the start, but they need constant, and quite strong, pruning and clipping otherwise they become monsters! Believe it or not, in the UK there are now laws concerning leylandii and high hedges because it's become that much of an issue!

    I'm surprised you need/want to clean up all those leaves in the secret garden. Can't you leave them as a leaf mulch?

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of them have been left as a mulch, but the area where I was sitting actually has a little patio so I'd like to clean it up so it's a nicer surface to sit and stand on.

    Nice to see the whole yard in a tour, lovely space, wow all of those trees! Rent a chipper and you'll have mulch for life hahaha.

      Thanks so much! Yeah exactly - I've got an electric chipper but I think I need to rent something a bit higher-powered!

    I can understand why you did it but it must have taken courage to take down down that section of cypress. It will be worth it.

      Hi Jeffrey! Yeah it was a daunting prospect to say the least - between the change it was going to make, and sheer workload of it. But I'm glad I went for it... I've got loads more to do in the Autumn!

    I am interested in more videos of your beautiful space. It's so nice to see an established garden which I hope you won't take out too much. Hand movements seem a bit distracting....fyi😊

      I've got lots planned for the rest of the year so hopefully you enjoy it. Afraid the hand movements are gonna be here to stay because that's just my personality!
