      Hey Max awesome to hear from you and hugely appreciate the positive vibes as always:) And I’m glad that’s the impression that comes across:) I love the fancy gear and have an A6400 and A7C I’m waiting to talk about, but at the same time I like the idea of helping people ring every bit of use they can out of their gear - especially with the pandemic hitting disposable income for a lot of people. Plus it’s fun to try pushing what can be done:)
      There’s definitely limitations (the low light footage was more the only time I could film around work than because the zv1 is great in low light for example 😆) but it can do a lot.
      What kind of gear are you running with? I’m curious:)
      Im also not familiar with Harv - who/what is that? And same to you - stay safe and have a great weekend bro 👍

    Hi mate, thanks for the great video, I have a question please. I bought my zv1 especially for recording cooking videos and I don’t like the way when camera keeps switching the focus between my hand and the food I’m cooking. Is there any settings that can keep the focus on both my hand and the foods and plate under my hands? I would really appreciate your reply 🙏

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Feriak, thanks for the great question. I’d say there are a couple of solutions. First you can try setting the AF drive speed to slow and AF tracking sensitivity to standard (both are in menu 2 and I think covered when we discuss rack focus on this video). This settings will basically tell the camera not to switch autofocus target rapidly so if your hands are in shot briefly you shouldn’t get much focus change.
      The other option is just to set a narrower aperture (higher f number) this will increase the depth of the focal area and keep more things in focus. Depending how far away the camera is I’d say try f4 and see how it goes; if you need an even deeper focus then gradually try higher f numbers. Hope that helps:)

    hello DB, nice video for ZV1, can you enlight me on what the ISO should I set when using HLG3 to shoot video. Cuz 250 seem too low that the image looks so dark when it's cloudy, Should I use auto ISO for HLG3 to properly expose when the light is not good?

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Panda, the answer will vary depending on the exact lighting and exposure conditions. Try to boost iso enough for the camera to be at or close to 0.0 on the exposure meter where you can.

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Shiwani, thanks for watching and the interesting question:)
      I haven’t tried the eos1300d directly but I’d say the ZV1 will give competitive low light performance if your eos has a smaller aperture lens (like an f3.5 kit lens for example). But if you have a wider aperture lens (like an f1.4) on the eos then it should have an advantage as it has a larger sensor.
      You can see some comparison on low light with the A6400, which has a similar sensor size to the 1300d, here in case helpful: th-cam.com/video/D-PPIus5-DI/w-d-xo.html

      support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/cscs/pmm/page2.php?area=gb&lang=en&mdl=ZV-1&abil=32200
      I can find the MF buttons in the app. If we are talking about the same ones they toggle between MF and Zoom ? They work perfectly on zoom. When I push them the lens moves and the view zooms as expected. But after I toggle to MF they seem to have no effect when I push them. In your video you seem to be tapping rather than pushing, is that correct ?

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey JI, yeah the tapping might be the key. The app (for bizarre reasons) doesn’t seem to let you hold down the MF adjust like the zoom so instead you have to tap repeatedly. It’s pretty tedious, but it can get those super nice shots - especially nice if you use some speeding up and slowing down in post production:)
      Hope that helps and let me know if you get it working - the tapping takes quite a bit before you see it working but it should work 😆

    • @MarksElectricLife
      @MarksElectricLife 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dbvares8745 Kool, I'll try the tap dance ! You'd think if they could write the software for continuous zoom they could have done the same for MF ? Luckily Sony's cameras are better than their software, hey ? 🤣

    As always great video! Educational, well structured and with (probably) typical English humor. Thanks for that!
    The point with the peaking setting I had actually not yet known. Very helpful setting! And otherwise, I've watched the video three times now and see myself confirmed in my endless, previous research regarding focus-techniques.🙄
    I find it worthwhile to internalize these things with the focus, so that you can quickly and intuitively choose the appropriate technique outdoors and not have to consult the online manual first, as I had to do in the middle of the forest.😅
    Have a nice weekend and stay relaxed.

    • @dbvares8745
      @dbvares8745  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey 4Lakes, awesome to hear from you my friend:) Although I grow increasingly jealous of all the nature you’re filming while I’m legally confined close to home 😆 It does sound nice!
      I agree - I was pleased and surprised how much there was to say about focus when I came to make this one - although it ended up making the finished product take longer I think it was worthwhile. I definitely agree about the intuitive use point.
      For that I strongly recommend button and menu shortcuts- I have af/mf toggle on my delete button and set focus (which also gives the magnified) on the left of the wheel; peaking all in the function menu and AF drive speed for rack focus in my custom menu. It’s not ultra smooth but it works pretty well in terms of what I use most often and quickly adapting to the shot.
      Let me know how your experiments go and if you find anything interesting:) Our conversation about your touch focus experience with a gimbal helped inspire some of my testing and mitigation ideas too 💪
      Also disclaimer: I think even for the English my humour is a bit odd 😆 Take care and have a great weekend 💪

    • @4lakesoutdoor
      @4lakesoutdoor 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dbvares8745 Yep, the forest and all its beauty, the smell, the animals is especially good in these times - if you are allowed to go there.😬
      I also use shortcuts for af/mf (key 2) and set focus (key 4). This is actually extremely helpful!
      Of course I'm glad that my incredibly elaborate experiments😜 with touch focus and my questions about it have brought something.Your ideas from the current video definitely help and I think the more I try, the better it works.
      I hope to find time soon to make and upload the first video with the ZV-1. Of course I will let you know.

      That sounds awesome and I look forward to checking it out once it’s ready:) And as I said in my other response, these sorts of interesting chat are both enjoyable and help me think of additions to content.
      I’ve got a bunch of wider stuff planned when time allows but it is very fun to see how much one can do by trying to master something like the ZV1 rather than assuming more or better gear will improve techniques or creativity. Though I’m definitely partial to getting gear so I can’t really say anything 😆

      Hey Raja, the touch tracking with the tracking box doesn’t work at 120p unfortunately. You can use touch to spot focus though which should let you achieve similar results-you’ll just have to pay a bit closer attention to check the camera is doing what you want 😆
      Thanks for watching, consider subbing if you enjoyed and have an awesome day 👍

    Is there a way to turn off the focus? I want it to be that everything is clear in shot frame even when moving around so it is not trying to focus on just 1 thing. Thank you.

      to get everything in focus, raise the aperture or simply click the background defocus button twice to make the background clear. or you can set manual focus on a far away object which would keep object past a certain distance in focus.

      One more thing, how do I make the zv-1 focus on nearest object in auto focus or "AF-C" in video?

    Not one of these videos shows you how to enter the dial focus mode. You guys assume too much, I've watched 10 videos on how to manually focus and none of you cover the basics of how to enter that mode. Frustrating. I cant switch between auto and manual, but how do you enter dial focus mode?
