Great video! So evocative, loved the fall colors! We had a great spring visit to Kakunodate about 10 years ago. It was rainy, so most of the petals had fallen off the trees and made a vibrant pink carpet on the ground. What a wonderful visit that was!
Japan in autumn is so beautiful! The tranquility and charm of the places you showed was really calming and inviting. Tohoku firmly enters my list of places to visit!
You're right: TH-cam has reached saturation point in regard to videos about Tokyo and Osaka. Been done to death. But this was a revelation. Learned so much about about a much underappreciated part of Japan. Terrific stuff.
I loved your video. I went to Tōhoku last year and will go this year again. I adored Morioka, awesome city with great vibes. ❤If you go to Aomori Pref. again, please visit Hirosaki City.
Hirosaki seems great! .) At this point I am just realising I have a bit of a crush on Northern Japan so I am really hoping to go back and see more of it soon, thanks for the tip! .)
I’ve lived in Japan for 20 years now, but I confess I still haven’t made it up to the Tohoku area. Thank you for making a video about this beautiful and underappreciated region of Japan… and for reminding me that I need to finally get up there and check it out! (In my defense, it’s a bit of a long trip from where I live in Mie prefecture. But one I will make!)
I had this just running in the background while doing chores but had to rewind and actually sit down and watch it properly. The cinematography is so good.
You know, planned a trip to Tohoku for three weeks and at first, wasn't too excited because it felt 'different' from the classic Japanese experience. I've watched this video twice and can't tell you how thrilled and happy I feel. Through this video, and this is to the camera man as well, you conveyed peaceful vibes. You sent all the right energy. So thank you for the work and hey, for what it's worth, you've earned a new subscriber ! Will make a video myself of the trip, so hey, maybe it will inspire others, like you inspired us!
Might I suggest visiting the onsens around Hanamaki, Iwate. There are many very charming old and new onsens in one small region west of Hanamaki. Osawa Onsen was a favourite of mine while I lived in Kitakami. Tohoku is the best place to be to get a sense of 'old Japan.' Loved your video. Arigato!
Amazing video, very informative and great overview of the Tohoku region. I'm actually planning on going on a 14 day trip from Tokyo to Aomori in October next year and taking notes of some of the places you visited as reference.
I love the nature of Aomori; we went Oirase gorge, Towada lake, Hirosaki Castle (Sakura festival), Hotokegaura in Shimokita peninsula. Tanesashi park in Hachinohe.
Great video with some lovely shots. That temple looked amazing, such intricate carving! Would love to check out Morioka one day, been to Tokyo and then south to the usual spots but North has it's appeal! :-)
It's just so cool, isn't it? Would love to bring my friends there in the future .) looks like a spot that is only going to get more and more interesting, which is unusual for smaller cities!
Same!! We're renting a car and hitting all of the Tohoku prefectures and I was growing quite scared because of it feels calmer than the vibrant center. Anyways! Let me know if you hit any hidden gems.
I love North Japan 🫶🫶🫶🫶 this video has brought so many memories from our last trip 😭 I would say that Aomori was much busier when we went (I think they have more local tourism during summer), although not super busy which was great 🙂
Awesome vlog Kat and Simon. I was just thinking when I saw the title that you were in Sharla/Abroad in Japan territory, but what are the chances of actually bumping into them? Started watching Chris and Sharla during lockdown and they're largely responsible for my rather feeble attempts to learn Japanese using Duolingo.
It was really exciting watching the Journey across Japan North edition this December - although a bit jealous that Chris and the team got to see so much more than us. I think next time we might try to brave renting a car and driving around Japan!
@@Kakibot Yes, it was a great series. It was the original Journey Across Japan that got me hooked on Chris's channel, so it was great to see him and the team shooting in that style again. Loved the overlaps with Sharla's channel as well; same location but a very different style and content. Driving across Japan would be a brilliant adventure. Now that you've met Chris and Sharla, you and Simon could do a couple of crossover episodes as part of the trip.
Thanks for that enjoyable and interesting video. Great photography and soundtracks. Sharla and Chris Broad ? I is surprised. 2 Tubers tubing together ?
I visited Yamagata last Aug. It’s good vibes, amazing people, good foods, great sights. My original plan was also to visit the neighboring prefectures but I ran out of time. In future I will visit the region again. Any recommendation which season is the best to cover the region and how many days are needed?
Has to be soba, i like the texture and chewiness of the noodles. Actually visited Azumaya Honten in Morioka, wont forget the taste of their soba dishes.
can you recommend places to stay? I'm excited by what you've shared in this video. My 2 teenage daughters and I plan to come to these places in mid Dec 2024
My wife and I went up to Mt Hakoda by the cable car. When we disembarked at the top, the wind was howling during late October autumn. We looked around for a minute, took some quick snap-shots and joined the long queue back to the cable car and just in time for the last bus arriving at 4.30 pm. It was already getting dark. I could not imagine being stranded at the foot of the mountain and literally without a soul there for the night. So, those who do not self-drive, please be very aware of the timing of the bus schedule.
Perfect for me because I am going to spend about a week in that area in mid-october, of this year. I will be arriving from Hokkaido, so aomori will be my starting point. Would you have a writing description to where you went. Being french speaking I miss a lot of what you say , but I can read perfecly. Domo arigato 🎉
Great video btw! Everything's so pretty 🥰just a question, how much time should be spent at the Nebuta Warasse Museum? I'm thinking of going to Aomori this September!
The nebuta museum, Warasse is an amazing place that you never find anywhere in Japan or the world. It will take 1 hour if you want to see a show. Every year, the three nebutas that won the prize in the nebuta festival held on August 2 to 7 will be replaced. About 23 Nebutas will be participated in the festival to compete the nebuta art that hand made by 17 nebuta artists. The nebuta festival is the most famous festival in Japan.
No offence intended but I think that might be a you problem if that's your interpretation. Kats favourite place on earth is Japan, so if she says something critical it's to inform, not to just rant. If you're referring to her views on Aomori, I agree with her, the city is objectively dying out and it felt like a ghost town when we were there
I know I helped shoot little bits of this, but I'm still blown away by how pretty this video is. Miss Japan dearly...
Let's go baaaaaaaaack

Beautiful views! We love the Tohoku area of Japan. Aomori is one of my favorites. We didn't make it to Akita, so I'd still like to go there. 🍁Heidi
That last frame of the akita at 21:25 is me every morning after the alarm, just idling there for 20 minutes staring into the void.
😂😂😂

Thank you so much! So happy to hear you found this helpful .)
Aw, I miss Japan. And you.
Seems like a great area to bring kids to as well. Aw, it looks amazing. Such beaut shots too ❤

For Aomori Prefecture, I really recommend Hirosaki and the surrounding area for the scenery of Mt Iwaki and Hirosaki Castle. ^^

I loved Tohoku region, what a shamed that not many people visited as there are so much to discover there.
honestly it's better that way. industrial tourisn ruins everything !
Noodles are always delicious. 🍜
Love your sweaters! Where did you find them? I had a feeling that if you went to Tohoku you are familiar with Chris and Sharla. I am a fan too.
Did not catch name of 3x noodle place in Morioka (1600)

I want...no Need...the plaid jacket?!

Nicely filmed and good music. Too bad it's just an overview of what the region has to offer.
