Just updated our 3-week stay in Niseko to 10 days, added a few days in Sapporo & a week in Asahikawa because of this video & saved a bunch of money while visiting more resorts. Great information. Very stoked.
Great video, dying to go to Japan and try the pow! Would love an equivalent video for Austria, I'm really struggling to find somewhere cheap and happening but easy to get to the slopes!
Seconded for an austria equivalent video! Would be amazing. BTW I stayed in Nagano this January and was super happy with it - and the public transport links to shiga kogen, nozawa, myoko and madarao were all fine, I didnt need a car at all
Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I would love to see more detail about how to link in transport when staying at cities you’ve recommended. Thanks again, Scott.
The footage in the onsen with the monkey absolutely took me out, amazing!! Einfach klasse.
A video on ski resorts accessible from Nagano (without a car) would be amazing - we are staying in Nagano for 5 nights in January 2025 and currently looking at day trip ski options!
I skied a couple of days at Happo One and Hakuba 47 without a car. Walked to the lifts at Happo One and got a shuttle bus to 47 easy. If I had stayed longer I would've checked out other resorts. Niseko is also easy to check out other resorts from by bus trips readily available.
I would also love to get your insight into the ski areas around Nagano. Headed there in February for five days. Thank you for sharing your experiences!
Awesome video! Thanks for the tips. I went to Myoko last season and loved it. Planning on going back to Nagano and also Hokkaido this season, so your suggestions will definitely help me plan my trips :)
Really enjoy your posts. We have a trip planned to Japan this year and were booked for Yuzawa. Hotel there was hard to book and eyewateringly expensive. After watching this, have just booked a hotel in Nagano instead and booked a rental car at Times. Such a great idea, would never have thought of this. Thanks for the great idea. Lucky in New Zealand we drive on the left so that is not a problem! Would really like to see a detailed video on fields in Nagano. Been there a couple of times, only Haukuba.
Excellent video. You hit the nail quite perfectly on the head re finding affordable accommodation near ski resorts in Japan. If people are interested in a less travelled part of Japan then I would recommend Morioka City, which is a fantastic, little city in Tohoku. In winter it offers pretty affordable accommodation and is within ninety minutes of Appi Kogen and Geto Kogen, which are two of the best ski resorts in Tohoku. There are also numerous other smaller resorts within an hour.
@@TheSlipperySlope If you do head to Tohoku then also try Hakkoda Ropeway near Aomori City. It is very good, especially if the weather is clear. I absolutely love Tohoku, but I want to stress that Hokkaido and Nagano are better. Have fun.
Engaging for the almighty algorithm. Sick content Man! Was in Asahikawa earlier this year, they have the best Penguin walk at their zoo in the world. A momentary sense of freedom for the poor animals..
Great video! Loved it! I’m planning a trip to Japan and I’d appreciate if you could film a video explaining the off piste policy in Japan (is it allowed? What are the best resorts? Does ski patrol do avalanche control? Thank you!
Please do a review of the ski areas around Nagano and if any have public transportation - that would be great! Just don’t mention Nozawa Onsen as I love it there and we don’t need any more visitors!
@TheslipperySlope can you give an estimate on budgeting for a 2 week ski trip in Japan? We are a group of 6 traveling from Vancouver island. Plan on following your guidance and staying in nearby cities and not on resort. Great information and video quality. I love the Yukon and liked your video from the cabin.
Hard to say. Depends on type of hotels you stay at, rental car, whether you buy lift tickets every day and how hard you party ;) If you need help with trip planning let me know.
Wow, this video came just in time and with the right topic covered, too. Do you think it's feasible to drive out of Sapporo / Asahikawa every day? I want to make the most out of my stay in Japan and driving an hour forth AND back every day doesn't sound too appealing, especially after an exhausting pow day. Also, how's the parking situation like in these two cities? Free parking with the hotel room?
We usually paid like 10$ for 24h parking in the city. Ideally you go to all 3 cities in Hokkaido, chasing the pow. Least amount of driving will be from Otaru as you can be in Kiroro and Kokusai within half an hour.
I’m planning to visit Japan in February! I’m from Argentina. I’m wondering if it’s better to take my skies and boots with me or rent there. What would be you recommend.? Do you have instagram account ? Thanks!! Love you’re videos
The more these types of videos show the less these options exist as they become more popular and slowly change. Just saying!! I’ve seen places like asahidake get stupidly busy and the line for the gondola gets an hour long.

Nagano resort video please! Just stumbled upon your channel researching a Japan trip, the humor, editing and quality is on point. Subscribed.
Coming soon!
you're a real one for this, thank you
$16 a night in Niseko right next to a lift and the place is spotless and great facilities. A golden find and amazing host.
This video was awesome man! Thank you so much. Heading to Japan in a couple weeks and this helped tremendously.

I second this. It seems that Nagano might be a jem to check out a bunch of different areas on the same trip.

Please make a video about the logistics of staying in Nagano and visiting a different nearby ski area every day!
You should try Tohoku area of Japan as well.
They have good snow as well. APPI Kogen is 1 of the famous ski resort in Tohoku area
I will in January :)
@@TheSlipperySlopethere are many ski resorts in north east that you will definitely enjoy. the snow is also dry pow as in hokkaido but less windy.
Certainly useful video on Japan skiing! Made already a nice draft for probable trip to Japan in February. Grüsse vom Erlangen, danke dir, Servus!

Where are you skiing?
@@dampaul13 we were going to go to Shiga Kogen but now we are going to Hakuba, Cortina :)
Amazing video!!
Love the info!!!
Great info. Planning a trip there in January from N. America. Resorts here have priced me out.
Very Very helpfull video (especiallya as I'm thinking of heading to Sapporo)! Out of interest, what do you think of Bankei?
how long is the powder season in japan ? i mean when are the last safe powder days?
Great Video! Where would you do a ski season?
Probably Nozawa Onsen for Honshu and Furano for Hokkaido.
Great video! Loved it! I’m planning a trip to Japan and I’d appreciate if you could film a video explaining the off piste policy in Japan (is it allowed? What are the best resorts? Does ski patrol do avalanche control? Thank you!
There’s some info in my comparison video. However, the off-piste policy can vary hugely from resort to resort, so it’s hard to generalize.
@@TheSlipperySlope Thanks, noted! I’ll take a look at the video!
Ssshhhhhh, you're letting everyone know the secret of Asahikawa 😛 Another city to add to your Honshu list is Morioka.

Where were those barriers at 11:30 ??
Between Niseko and Kiroro I think
It’s illegal to ski any of the roadside Avi barriers in Japan, police will come down hard on you. Not a great idea having it in the video

I'd bring my own ski gear as some smaller resorts don't have rentals.
@andreashasselbeck
I think Morioka and Aomori would be good cities to add to that list. Lots of under the radar areas with great snow in Tohoku.
Yeah, they’re on my list for next winter. Aomori looks really fascinating!
Are those your stickers on that laptop? ARE YOU AN ANIME LOVER!?
I only watch anime for language learning purposes 😉
