How I REALLY Lost 100 Pounds - My Story

  • It's hard to describe but this is how I lost 100 pounds.
There wasn't a quick fix, it was a journey, lots of lessons learned. This is how I did it, all the things I changed to get to a healthier me.
2 years ago I started stating that I was going to be working on my health. I didn't know what that meant at the time beyond that I knew I needed to change. I wanted to learn and teach myself, find new ways and be open minded but also give myself room to fail.
I'm still working on it. Not just my weight, but my over health health. Mental health, physical health... its all tied together!
I was nervous about releasing this as its so different from my norm. But just like running was different for me, or yoga was different, you don't grow without experiencing something new so here we go!

After my father passed, I didn't know I was grieving and I gain so much weight and felt so bad, I stopped looking at the scale. As a woman, I felt bad because people would call me by my weight as well like hey amazon, for example. It felt so bad, I isolated myself. I lost the weight but gained it back. I am so happy to hear your story. Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing! Have a great day!

If you lost it once, you can do it again! You know how! That really means something. I know it's tough, but we know you're tough enough to do it.
Also, grieving is a good excuse for just about anything related to self-care. Don't be hard on yourself.

This is the reason TH-cam should exist. Thanks for sharing. We are very similar. I have always been bigger and have lost and gained several times. I needed this video for motivation. I am the same with the gym. I hate it and have joined at least 5 over the years. I did DDP yoga for over a year and had decent results but as usual I never fully committed and combined a healthy diet with it. The fact is you have to change your lifestyle and it's not easy. Hoping one day to achieve what you have. Also, it looks like you have a supportive spouse which always helps. Again, I really appreciate it.

That was the start, then just adjusting the diet and very gradually getting into exercise later on. I now exercise every day and eat mainly plant-based foods. Keep up the good work.

Great to hear your success, my wife was also part of my succes going from 90kgs to 72kgs...she just bought me a gym card on fathers day and told me to find a coach in that gym. Coach gave me higher protein balanced diet plan which was edited maybe 2-3 times, I never felt hungry and lost that way in maybe 2 months with working out 2 days a week. But coach told me he rarely see success like this, most of his clients lack the will to stick the plan and gain weight all the time.

Good for u! You mentioned the two most important things. In order to have long term success u need to make a lifestyle change and in order to do so it needs to be sustainable/ enjoyable. I was a college swimmer and even after i stopped I was able to maintain 165 with relative ease until I got into my mid 30’s. It was then that any good genetics or athleticism I became vulnerable. The new norm became 175 for a good while but literally in just a couple of years I now find myself at 209! I was in a motorcycle accident which made it difficult to be active and changed a lot of my lifestyle. Add in work, stress etc I made eating fast food two to three times a day the norm. I really don’t like being this heavy or this inactive so I searched TH-cam for inspiration. Thank u! Point being it can happen to anyone and anyone can change their life. I needed a push :)

Mostly, I lost by eating meat ( a LOT of it) similar to the old Atkins diet (& now keto digested). Why? Because I still wanted lasagna, my longed for carbs…and couldn’t discipline myself to do portions. I just couldn’t “get “ that part at all. Now I’ve found intermittent fasting & with that I have hope again.

When I first started going my acupuncturist told me everyone was different and that her goal was to get me healed as quick as possible. My father in law went to a different acupuncturist after it worked for me, he only went twice but he said he didnt tell a difference.

I’m sitting here at the heaviest of my life, 306lbs, looking for inspiration. Seeing that weight on the scale made me more depressed than it did inspire me to lose it. I wanted to see videos of people working out and losing weight, not just talking. That’s why I never watch these kinds of videos. Yet this video had me hooked from start to finish. This was really helpful to my mindset. Thank you brother.

for me personally, I started doing small exercises. One thing, and would just push myself to do it everyday until it became routine (took about a week). For me i got so heavy because I felt trapped and incapable of doing anything, or changing anything about my life. Until I started doing introductory exercises.
I started out doing just 10 wall push ups, not only was I trying to lose weight through intermittent fasting (aka tapping into willpower to eat only 1 meal a day) but I was also trying to rebuild muscle again after 5 years of neglect.
I started out at 280+ a month ago, fast forward to now and I'm at 266. It's definitely possible, but it's going to be slow. Very very slow. And sometimes you'll plateu, but it's okay, that's normal, you'll start losing again if you keep it going regardless.
Repetition is super important, and above all else, self forgiveness. There are going to be days where you'll slip, I have, but don't beat yourself up over it. It happens, it's going to happen, and when you're trying to change from unhealthy habits, it's important to forgive yourself for your slip ups and keep going regardless.
And if you do feel bad for your mistakes, then make up for it somewhere else within your capabilities. Like walking for 10 minutes.

You can definitely do it. Find out what works for you. Not everything will. The biggest issue is that anything you do needs to be something you can incorporate into your life as a habit, and it must be sustainable. Anyone can lose weight on extreme diets or exercise but virtually no one can keep that up. Look at the history of the Biggest Loser contestants and what happened afterwards. For me stopping alcohol, going mostly plant based, meditation and lots and lots walking worked. It’s taken few years but I’m getting there. PM me if you ever want to vent about it.

This is one of the most positive and inspiring weight loss stories I've ever heard, probably because it wasn't a weight loss story but rather a sober explanation of how you've gotten _healthy_ which has resulted in weight loss and other improvements. It sounds like you acknowledged that the things you've done in the past don't work or aren't adequate, and trusted yourself to find a new way. And it's all fallen into place to your benefit. Thanks for posting!

The key to weight loss is no (significant) additional oil or fat. Fats are 9 calorie per gram foods. All the vegetables and carbs are only 4 calories per gram so you can eat twice as much in volume. Believe me you will never feel hunger on carbs!

Mark, thank you for sharing this. I was diagnosed with diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure nearly four years ago. I had suffered with acid reflux for twenty years. Omeprazole kept it i check but I never liked taking medications. I went keto first and lost some weight and everything was improving but the reflux and cholesterol. We tried various different foods. A few more months in and I looked to Derica my wife and said, “When is the last time we ate meat?”. It was over two weeks and I had not had reflux at all. So, research into plant based diets showed positive results for all my issues. I ended up losing about 40 lbs, dropped my a1c from 11.7 to under 6, no longer needed blood pressure meds and got my cholesterol back close to normal. I still go through a cycle. I am really good for a few months, then get lazy, then get back on track again. Just the other day I was saying almost exactly what you said about hard rules and building habits. A hard rule makes me rebel. No one is perfect and we can’t hold even ourselves to those ideals. I think you have done an amazing thing and should be incredibly proud. Also… we are in St Pete and have family in Orlando. Would love to meet you both for some vegan food if you were up for it. I know, rando on the internet wants to meet, but we are also full time TH-cam creators so we actually have a bit in common. Anyway, enough creepiness. Good on you and we wish you all the best.

I'm 63 now and better shape than since I was in my 20's
180 lb and normal blood pressure
I did use intermittent fasting periodically - Key being never go "truly"hungry, but don't snack. If you get truly hungry Eat a fulfilling meal.
"Pure Sweet" brand of stevia white powder made it easy for me to eliminate sugar completely. Heaping 1/2 teaspoon is enough to sweeten a gallon of tea or coffee.

One of the times I lost the most weight was when I was doing hot yoga almost daily and I wasn’t working a depressing job. So I recently quit that and decided to travel across to country visiting old friends. And I am already feeling better. Thank you Mark for documenting your journey. I am in the last phase of my Noom membership and am now trying to shore up lessons learned about perceived hunger/desires and how to challenge/redirect them. My generation was born out of the clean plate club forged during the depression years (my parents). Eat as much as you can, when it's available, and don't leave anything on the plate. Of course modern industry has figured out how to exploit that ethic by providing us with cheap, fast, high calorie, high fat, low nutrient fodder. So cooking for ourselves is one of the best ways to avoid that trap, and I thank you for trying to be part of the solution.
