I had raccoons that hung out out back of my house when I was younger, and i always left a big bowl of water for them on my deck.
Once I threw a loaf of bread out onto my deck. It still had the twist tie on. The one raccoon, I called him Carl, he took the twist tie off and emptied all the bread out into the water and started mashing it up before he ate it.
Never thought he might have been maybe washing it.. I just always thought he was a friggin weirdo 😂
That because their front paw is more sensitive with water.

Omg!!! I love it! So stinkin cute! We have a mom and two babies that live next door in my neighbors junk yard of a back yard. I feed them. Actually gave them grapes the first time I saw them. I know you're not supposed to feed wild animals. But they were hungry and cute! So I sneak them food when the neighbors are asleep. Hehe

I put food and water out for critters at night and every morning the water bowl is a mess. I didn't know racoons wash their food. I thought they were just dirty and they were stepping in the bowl or something.
No it helps them taste what they're eating because their paws are more sensitive than their nose and mouth so they can taste what's edible and what's not

Rocket sleeps pretty much all the time! He’ll get spurts of energy and go nuts for a while, then fall asleep again
