Hi darkness what river do you camp on? I'm from the mountain Southern West Virginia and I camp on Shanklin's ferry on the New River and bluestone River. You should look up Hinton Dam. Back in the early 1990s there was a problem with the Dam andthe state hired army corps engineers underwater welders to go down and fix the broken sections of steel that was at the base of the dam all the way at the bottom and is about 300 feet deep right the dam is built between two very steep mountainsthe dam is built between two very steep mountains. the New River flows in north and the bluestone river flows South. Which as you know there are only two rivers in the world flow north and that's the New River in West Virginia and the Nile in Egypt. Anyways, the two rivers join about a mile back from the Dam and where the North New River hits the South bluestone River flow carved a channel in the river after the dam was builtthat for about twelve to fifteen hundred yards is around 800 feet deep. ever since they built that Dam there people have been reporting huge disturbances in the water. In 1993 they found out what those disturbances were.When the underwater welders went down to fix the section of steel that was broken from logs hitting it during a flood, they were under the water for an hour and 37 minutes and all of a sudden they surfaced and said that they would not go back under the water under any circumstances. one of the welders that was part of a three-person team that went down under the water said that they were observing other sections of steel while the one welder was welding.and he stated that he felt pushed and pulled all of a sudden but nothing touched him. He said they turned his spotlight around and when he did he thought that there was a car floating through the water but it was a catfish. Two weeks later a professional big game fisherman brought a specific type of boat that is used for catching giant halibut and grouper. This dude caught a 697 lb catfish!!!!!!! She almost sunk his boat trying to catch the fish. He said that there is no telling how old that catfish was becausethe biggest catfish in freshwater rivers in the United States only get around 300 to 350 LBS. they said in order for this catfish to have gotten that big it would have had to have been at least 400 to 500 years old. There's a catfish in a lakein southern West Virginia called Shawnee lake in the name of the catfish mountain Ali for like mountain alligator. This catfish has been in this lake at least as far back as 1771 it's about 250 years old and weighs 391 pounds as of 2017.The one that was caught at Hinton Dam was 306 LBS heavier. So they are thinking that the catfish is between 400 and 600 years.

I only went to deer camp once and I was pregnant so I was the only sober one there. When the herd of deer walked through the middle of deer camp and not one soul was sober enough to do anything about it. I ended up with wet pants. Lol. There we seriously 100 or more. It was truly a whole herd. It was so funny.
How about some, I droke down ( or vehicle getting stuck ) at night on a lonely road, or back road, middle of nowhere at night stories??? I have a few of my own. 😉
My family has friends who camped by Mio, MI, and we'd go up there when I was a kid during the summer and it's more commonly pronounced like My-Oh (their pizza place is great too btw). The woods around there always gave me the creeps, like the forest itself was didn't want you there in a way it set off some primal sense of unease in you and all the scattered grave sites (and dents in the ground where graves USED to be) from 100+ years ago in the denser wilderness a few miles away give it an additional creep factor.
My friend and I use to hunt right off Watson rd. off 23. Some of the woods around there kinda look like tall pine ( pine barrens?) looking. Is that the spooky type of unwelcoming woods u mean?

Way different than the rest of these but my uncle always tells the story of the time he was a kid and the whole family went to the lake for a day and were all fishing when my grandfather got a hook stuck in his hand. Rather that leave and go to the doctor, he proceeded to sterilize his pocket knife in the fire, cut the hook out of his hand, clean and bandage the wound with the first aid kit he kept in his truck, put on a clean pair of work gloves and continue fishing, much to everyone's horror. Said he didn't want to ruin everyone's day.

Heres a scarey true fishing story i had a friend who was asian and they truly believed in dragons and spirits.anyways one day he goes fishing and caught what he believes to b a dragons egg. scared that he had disturbed the spiritual nest.he quickly tossed it back in and immediately went home.that night he complained of a headache and told his parents what had happened.the following day they brought in an expert shaman who performed ceremonial cleansing to rid the man of bad vibes.days later he was bed ridden with cancer. the doctors couldn't explain what caused such a progressive cancer and didn't give him much time to live he died shortly after
