In the anime, the Calaklum class battleships come off as fairly formidable and rugged. The rest of their ships, especially the Nazca class carriers, come off as particularly weak junkers that blow up easily.

In a rewrite I'm doing, the do everything for the Calaklum class is done way, like a different ship, my creation based on OS designs that weren't recycled, that'll make those large cannons to bust planets, but they have weak armor and are mostly automated, making them even weaker one to one. It'll be the mass produced side, not the Calaklum, as it'll be just a heavy weight instead.
Star Blazers 2205 was great. Still like 1978 version.

Could you do a breakdown of the Comet Empire's main base/city ship? It was also heavily armed and the largest mobile object in the series. What it to do our moon was just terrifying.

There was one or a few, it was on the ps2 but it was never translated to english, but it does have a few neat designs such as the shunran.

To be honest, the Gatlantian build the most ugly vessels in the entire series ! They're also super weak, and can not compare to the counterpart from Garmillas and Earth !! The only advantage they have with their fleet was number !

There was one weapon that was forgotten in the video, the Quantum torpedoes.

I'd like to hear more about the Gatlantian base. How does it form that comet shield, and manage to hold together passing through saturn?

If I remember, the Ark of Destruction is a relic from the past, the ark is more than 1000 years old, it's main weapon is a gravitational field generator that looks like a core, it is so powerful that he can pull everything within range no matter what it is, ships; planets, and the core can even be used for remodeling the ark or even as a giant laser beam canon by absorbing ships or planets and convert them into energy
The ark of destruction is an ancient relic left behind by the ancient aquarius civilization who seeded all humanoid life in the galaxy. The ark technology is incomprehensibly advanced even beyond understandings of humans and gamilas for example the ark can warp and manipulate gravity around the ark at will.
Definitely needed this, previously had no idea (guess I really do need to crack open the Star Blazer vault lol) what weaponry the ships had and the video certainly helped to visualise it. Much appreciated since this did better to explaining than 2202 did (my opinion of course, no hate to people who like it).
In the first episode a single karakum class wastes a sizeable portion of the combined UNCF and gamilas fleet and take even a wave motion blast to the face yet at the battle of saturn they get taken out by the dozens
The Gatlantean fleet, grows their ships, the larger the ship, the thinker the armor. Notice there’s a gargantuan size descrepancy between episodes, the first episode has one that’s the size of a star destoyer, and a later episode has one of a similar size to Emperor Zworder

I personally love Zordar's Dreadnaught from the original series 2, particularly its reveal in the finale in the film Farewell Space Battleship Yamato. I know they tried to incorporate parts of it in the Ark of Destruction, but I prefer the classic ship itself.
The Nazca class giant carrier can also deploy craft shaped like large knife blades that fly at enemy ships and crash into them before blowing themselves up.
That reminds me of another common attribute between the Gatlanteans and the Jem Hadar, they didn't hesitate to use suicidal attacks by ramming into their enemies.

good for you mentioning underrated Franchises..
It does make me wish we got a little more material on Galantis in the period between 2199 and 2202. They went from getting plastered by Gamilas ships to achieving parity to the Calaklum-class, of which the numbers deployed (and still being grown) made them seem like they were a brute-force counter to the Time-Fault Shipyard and Earth's Wave Motion Gun fleet. The repurposed (juvenile? lol) Calaklums that escort the Yamato nearing the end of the series even establishes that they have some capability for remote/unmanned control.
Did you notice that the Calaklums during the Battle of Saturn are considerably smaller and weaker than the one in the first episode?
