We had three Marines who were going for Force Recon in jump school back in 1973. One was a Gunnery Sgt, who the Blackhats loved to harass. During Tower Week, when you were either jumping from the 34 foot tower, or sitting in the bleachers observing others jumping from the towers, a Blackhat yells down, "All Marines above the rank of E-6, HIT IT!" Upon which the Gunny jumps to his feet, assumes a nice, tight body position, and gives his 4000 count. Then the Blackhat yells down, "You know in the Army, we use Marines for pop-up targets." To which Gunny replies, while maintaining that tight body position, "That's okay. Army can't hit anything past 50 meters anyway." Blackhat responds with, "Recover", allowing Gunny to take his seat in the bleachers again. Good memories. I love the rivalry.
