Written by Elvis Costello. The Title of the CD is an Hommage to Bob Dylan and his song about the lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll who was murdered by William Zanzinger, she was his servante. Mr Zanzinger only got 6 month prison, and that tragedy is what the song disscribed... Wendy James is a great performer in her early times (Plasmatics and Wendy O Williams) and also in her second period as Transvision Vamp. Thank you for posting and greatings from Köln
I love the "Now Ain't the Time for Your Tears" album so much, I bought it when I was returning to my military service (1993) after one weekend home just to have something new to listen to. I had not heard one single track from it then, I just bought it because I liked some transvision vamp hits and the record shop was displaying it.. But wow, it was SO good, and this is one of the best songs from it.
"Every night before I close my eyes, I say a prayer to my desires, Hung up on a poster on the wall, Don't let me grow up to fail and fall. (If I must grow up at all) Genius stuff and perfectly performed. This is from an album called "Now ait't the time for your tears" and it one of THE great lost albums. All songs written by Elvis Costello and performed by Ms James. Can anybody beat a line like "She danced like an ambulance"? I doubt it.
I loved transvision vamp since I was young (although I am the same age as wendy) but she radiates something even if the less awesome songs like this. I love the patriotism in this song. I doubt it would get many fans now, eastern europeans and muslims are not massive (even jungalist) on English sentimentality

Yes there is a video for Do You Know What I'm Saying, and it'll have the same header of the CD single as London's Brilliant, stating 3rd solo, like 2nd solo for London's Brilliant. I know coz I made them lol. Is fine it's being shared and enjoyed though. Check my channel, all the Wendy Solos are there
Afriend of mine told me about this album just last evening, since I like Elvis Costello a lot.I had never heard of the album, or Wendy before. Apparently she had written to him that she wasn't happy with her career/band, even though they were successful. He proceeded to write a whole album worth of songs for her in a short period of time, and sent it to her. This is nice, but not exactly what I'm used to from Elvis Costello.
In which album is this song ? Is it in nameless one or in now ain't the time for your tears ? I've never been a big fan of Wendy James, but maybe I'll become one someday ! Was this song influenced by Clash City Rockers from the Clash ???
And i wanna move the town to the clash city rockers You need a little jump of electrical shockers You better leave town if you only wanna knock us Nothing stands the pressure of the CLASH city rockers plus London's burning hahahaha very pretty girl though
SHe did not rip this off, Elvis Costello did the album and gifted it to her to try an drestart her career. It failed. I recommend you try out Tori Amos' new CD.
Wendy was really a beauty. Unfortunally she has lately shown the poor judgement of having herself be undergoing some facial plastic jobs; i.e. letting some surgeon destroying her lips. A waste...
Listen to the lyrics "he's getting fucked silly down in Picadilly". These are subversive lyrics sung by a 'pop princess' while commemorating the Clash and Punk. There's a lot more going on than in the other stuff she did.
She is shockingly beautiful!

@@kevinell6605Yes he is. Wendy used this presentation as a tribute to the Clash, whom she was a fan as well as a friend.
@@kevinell6605And Mick Jones has been engaged to Wendy for many years. He's the only man I ever envied. Lucky bastard.

@aza89 hence the line "still digging up the bones of strummer and jones"
elvis costello wrotw this song, as did he most the album this is from.
And it's talent is..... naturally evading your eyesight.
This was to be the first single released, it was closer to the TVV style, and perhaps it would change Wendy's fortunes.

Love it. Some of Elvis Costello's best songwriting was on that album.
London is brilliant when is raining, everybody is moanig and complained. London is dismal and DIVINE,...and I know one day
"An' I want to move the town to the Clash city rockers"
Exactly. She even mentions Jones & Strummer in the lyrics.
Of course, it's a Clash tribute piece mourning the passing of Punk.
Yes - there is a video , Wendy is wearing a dark trousersuit and singing on a stage in an empty nightclub.
thanks for your comments..does anybody know if there is a video made for her song/single Do YOU KNOW WHAT I AM SAYING ???
In which album is this song ? Is it in nameless one or in now ain't the time for your tears ? I've never been a big fan of Wendy James, but maybe I'll become one someday ! Was this song influenced by Clash City Rockers from the Clash ???

Nothing stands the pressure of the CLASH city rockers
plus London's burning
hahahaha
very pretty girl though
Back then London was brilliant. Big cess pit now though.
She is the best looking girl and loves the Clash!!! Be my wife!!!
THIS IS PANTS....
London used to be brilliant. I have had some great times down there. But it's a shit hole now. Has been for years.
a soft mix of the clash stuff - london's burning and clash city rockers, huh ??

Elvis Costello has written some real shit...
disastrous song what was she thinking
WRONG!!! Elvis Costello wrote every track on this album...and it's all killer..
I used to love this song but listening again it really is quite shit
no gd u couldn't get worse what was she thinking
If it's brilliant why is everyone moaning and complaining?
I'm not.
Because it's raining.
Got 1 minute in then had to give up. Horrible

...truly appalling, does anyone know what year this is from? If only she'd quit while she was ahead. Please stop now Wendy enough's enough...
What's up with that sh***y song?
