Jalin Turner UFC debut fight was on short notice and a weight class up (170) against Vicente Luque on the Connor vs Khabib card. He got KO but he also got a contract and got to fight his next fights at 155 where he’s now on a win streak and in the top 10 rankings! 🕷
He quickly grew to one of my favorite fighters can’t wait to see how far he goes

Chael comes from the bygone era of tournament-style fights where guys would compete multiple times per night, but these young fighters don't think that way. Most want to play the long game of negotiating to maximally extract what they can get before accepting.
Chael’s first fight in the ufc was #95. Lol so no. That doesn’t happen in the top promotion. It happens when fighters are able to be exploited when they have no bargaining chip eg fame.

This is good advice for any career path. Take chances. Bid on jobs, offer alternatives, even read the damn memo to the team. You get credit for taking a chance when no one else will. People remember valiant efforts, which is why the backup quarterback is the most popular person on a losing team.
Trying to join the ufc? One easy way to do it is to walk right up to a UFC fighter and challenge them in the octagon. As soon as you get your ass handed to you do realize that this might be something you really don't want. Or you could just listen to Uncle Chael!

The most real answer by Uncle Chael. It’s a real thing. The one thing you gotta have or add Is be ready at all times, for anyone at anytime, anywhere. It’s one of those things that you have to be ready, you want it go get it, there is your opportunity, you can be the underdog and can pull an upset and you just got yourself a contract as Uncle chael was saying.

The advice here was mot actually be ready at all times. It was look for job openings, and then be the first and hopefully only to apply for job no one wants.

I am wholeheartedly believe in being in striking distance of making weight and being ready but I disagree with a dozen matter of point it doesn't matter this don't matter that do you want to fight or not no this is a career and I am trying to make the smartest decisions for my career which means taking the easiest opponent for the most amount of money that's not saying I won't take a short notice flight just depends on who I'm in this for me not the corporation if that makes sense after all I am an independent contractor

best way to get into the UFC is to storm the cage as a fan. Dana loves it when that happens and almost always has the guy sign a contract afterwards
how does one get into the business side of it, the logistics? does one need to be in las vegas or able to be moved, do they have opportunity to grow? food for thought

Being promotable at this point.. have watched MMA for over 20 years unfortunately when it comes to the UFC being promotable is far more valuable than skill or rankings.. Example (just two) PVZ and Sage. It is what it is. Dana is a promoter. They want promotable people to sell tickets. Rankings don’t even matter now.

So yea if taking all comers regardless of how long your camp is if your not in the UFC the way to go.
But then again.. even if your the last name in pay on the UFC roster, taking short notice fights is statistically proven that taking short notice fights is a big risk w/ a small reward.. unless your in title contention. UFC always make fans believe guys who take short notice fights but no matter what happens the UFC brass has the attention span of a pitbull tripping on acid.
Guys who've made it in the UFC & have became household names today none had to take short notice scraps to be popular. In fact to blindly take all comers on short notice is idiotic.
