Most people do not need racing bike hp,for many folks this bike would be great and it's got much going for it and fairly light really.

I think the CRF300L is a great bike and was one of the bikes top of my list. I think I am going for the new Suzuki DR-Z4S, provided hands on reviews are compelling. Because the bike has more HP I am not as concerned about it still having a 5-speed. Does the CRF300L have ABS, and if so can it be switched off? Thanks.

@@terrarecon They have both an ABS and non-ABS model for the CRF. It’s I think a $600 difference. The ABS has a switch for the rear wheel only to be turned off. The front wheel is always on. I had a DRZ for a long long time as my primary dual sport. So I to am interested in the new one. I’m afraid it may command a pretty hefty price with the electronics included.

@@BestoftheBackroads Thanks for the info on the CRF300 ABS question.
As far as price on the new DR-Z4S, I do believe you are right, they will have to bump up the price to account for the upgrades they did do. However, I do not think they will charge so much that it would compete directly with the CRF450 etc. The bikes seem similar yet, are different.
The DR-Z400S held its own sweet spot for 20+ years as you know. I don't think Suzuki wants to upset that formula. I am thinking a pricing range from about $7,399 to $7,799 maybe.

These are great bikes, but I'm not sure why someone would choose this over an XR650L which is a far more capable all-around adventure bike. I guess if you're a shorter person or a lighter person the 300L might be a great option though.

Leaning this direction. I miss my WR250R and this may be a tad better. Do find you notice the difference of hp from your DR400 versus this CRF? I'm torn between a Honda XR650L (old school reliability and torque) versus the comfort and lightness of the still reliable Honda CRF) . I have a Kove 450 currently, but at my age (62), it is more bike than I need, and the intake noise is tiring. Otherwise great bike. Have a Triumph 1200 XE for road so your approach of a light adventure bike for BDRs and trail (put it in the back of the truck) is appealing. Thanks for the video.

I mostly notice the power when slabbing. The top speed on the Honda is 80-85...the DRZ was 90-95. You can figure in any comparable situation on the road to get 10-15 mph less than the 400cc bike. I do think at high speeds the Honda feels less buzzy..and is a smooth engine but it's just 286cc of power and no changing that fact. It does cruise nicely at 65. So Highway speeds yes...Interstate speed doable (barely) but not super comfortable. I don't miss the power offroad. I think the bike carries its weight better than the DRZ. The biggest downfall on the stock Honda CRF is the shocks. If you're planning on loading it down for a BRD...and are not a particularly light rider I'd budget in some aftermarket suspension.
