  • Steve Porcaro (keyboardist of TOTO) explains how to create Minimoog bass sounds.
    Keith Emerson was one of the first users in the early 70's. Many others followed Keith's pitch-bending techniques.
    The 1970 Minimoog was used by many icons as Keith Emerson, Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, Rick Wakeman, ABBA, Jan Hammer, Herbie Hancock, Jeff Lynne, Manfred Mann, Steve Morse, Muse, Gerry Rafferty, Klaus Schulze, Ultravox, Frank Zappa, Phil Collins and of course the instructor in this video: Steve Porcaro!
    Steve Porcaro explains in this video how to create a bass sound on the Minimoog. The Minimoog bass sounds were used by many famous tracks like Phil Collins' "Sussudio" and Ultravox' "Vienna" for example. Those basslines were done on the Minimoog!!!

    GEN X, 1965....Steve Porcaro is brilliant! He should be called "Father of the Synthesizer"!
    My Uncle was a producer at A&M RECORDS HOLLYWOOD from 1969-1999. The Porcaro brothers plus Dad Joe were session musicians on more records in the 70's 80s 90s than any musicians Im aware of. They took their high school band and formed " Toto" in 1977 with Jeff Porcaro and David Paich being the co-founders.Mad respect for Jeff Porcaro, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, David Hungate, Steve Lukather, Bobby Kimball! When Hungate left "Toto" in 1982 to move to Nashville, Tn, Mike Porcaro stepped right in to play bass in " Toto". When the band fired Bobby Kimball due to voice issues from cocaine use, Joseph Williams came on board to help with lead vocals.Fergie Frederickson tried lead vocals for "Toto" for about 1 year but didnt jive with the musicians and their sound! At the 1983 GRAMMY AWARDS, " TOTO" took home 6 Grammy's for Toto IV. Jeff, Steve & Mike Porcaro's Dad, Joe Porcaro happened to be in the Grammy Orchestra behind stage when his sons were awarded all those Grammy's. "AFRICA" & "ROSANNA" are still being played today ( 2023) ,40 years after they gained wide popularity on Toto IV. The bands first major loss came when drummer and co-founder Jeff Porcaro died in August, 1992 after cleaning up his Hidden Hills yard with pesticide.Jeff was only 38 years young and had 3 sons ages 8 months, 6 yrs, and 8 yrs old. His widow Susan Porcaro bravely talked to tv journalists about Jeff's death.Jeff Porcaro was also an avid History buff and war historian. He also loved to draw and created the album art for Toto's album covers."Toto" decided to carry onward and hired Simon Phillips to carry out drum responsibilities.
    Living with my Uncle & Aunt in LA during that time and I remember the NUMBNESS felt all over the music scene in California! The drum line consisting of many famous drummers led Jeff's family,friends, Toto bandmates (pallbearers) to his final resting place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Hollywood Hills.Jeff's middle son, Miles Porcaro also passed away in October, 2017 and is buried with his father.

      It's also one of the most expensive ones to get. If you want to do that then use some software simulator. The mother32 atleast is within affordable range for more people and has similar capabilities, albeit with just 1 oscillator.

    What does he mean when he talks about a '16 foot stop'? I've never heard of that before.

    • @videosuperhighway7655
      @videosuperhighway7655 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That it the octave standard measured in feet on pipe organs. The pipes have a lower note the longer the pipe is. 2foot stop is the smallest octave for pitch. The Wurlitzer would have tons of stop tabs representing octave pitch measured in feet. Its an archaic thing left over and the Minis were marketed to organ players etc. the term Stop meant cutting off pressurized air to the specific pipes measured in feet.
