    when i'm having a nice meal , i never thank god, i thank the cook, the butcher, the farmer, the people that transported the food from far away, but mostly i thank the animal that laid down it's life so i could enjoy this wonderful food, it made the greatest sacrifice of all...

    • @24wallachian
      @24wallachian 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Pat Brennan The animal did not make a sacrifice. It did not have a say in whether or not it wants to die. The animal was simply killed. Noone respected his/her desire to live. Stop acting as if the animals just cannot wait to be killed by us. We are exploiting them. We are killing tens of billions of these sentient living beings, even though we absolutely don't have to (as human body is perfectly capable of gaining all the vitamins and nutrients it needs from plants). And by killing them, we are destroying this whole planet and causing millions of people to die of hunger (as the production of animal products uses 10 times as many resources as the production of plant based products). The animals don't want to f#cking die! We are murdering them, we are caging them up, stealing their youngs, we are depriving them of everything that makes life worth living. And we are doing that for absolutely no good reason..... Stop feeling blessed for participating in all that carnage. Animal industry is the most destructive force on the planet. It's nothing to be thankful for.

    According to science, we are all constructed of elements born from stars. In a literal sense, everything is stardust. I find that profoundly moving. All life and nature is therefore connected. You don't need to be spiritual to believe that everything on Earth, and in the universe, are connected in some way. I also don't need a book to tell me how to act, and what is good and what is wrong. Also if a book is the only thing stopping you from murdering, maybe you should check into a psychiatric ward xD

  • @junjalapeno7773

    My theory as to why theists are so easily offended, is cause most of them believed in God in a just-in-case he is real argument, and they’re in it cause they’re afraid to be wrong. That if they don’t believe in it, and in case he’s real, they may be forsaken. That’s why I adore people who can entertain the idea that a God may not exist, cause it takes great courage and bravery to entertain the possibility of being wrong.

    The quest for an understanding of the material world is itself a spiritual one. The idea that "spiritual" is the antithesis of "material" is damnable anathema. The antithesis of the spiritual outlook is the "worldly" one, wherein by "the world" we mean the opinion of other people.There is a line in a hymn I admire, that "riches I heed not, nor Man's empty praise" --- which of course raises the question, if Almighty God exists, why would _IT_ care about that praise either?

    • @albertrogers8537
      @albertrogers8537 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      True. I used the term 'material world' for the natural world even with its material human modifications, what Dawkins would even classify as our "extended phenotype".
      I hold that confusing "spiritual" with denial of material reality is worthy of the heaviest condemnation.
      There is a hymn "Be Thou my Vision", to a splendid Irish tune, with the magnificent phrase "riches I heed not, nor Man's empty praise" which now impresses upon me the question of how much of the latter the presumed Lord God Almighty would care about.

    • @albertrogers8537
      @albertrogers8537 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Strictly speaking, the wording as translated by KJ's crack team of Hebrew language experts, is "thou shalt have no other gods *_before_* me."
      You may have missed the point, that a God "describing himself" as jealous of other gods, whether they even exist or not, is clearly a being of less self confidence than the nuclear physics experts who sought out the young Richard Feynman, because he would argue fine points of physics as a person not intimidated by his own admiration of themselves.
      In other words, the God of the Second Commandment is *_not_* a worthy God.

    • @albertrogers8537
      @albertrogers8537 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dom Reale
      It's in the Book of Exodus, chapter 20, and he's not my God.
      We seem to be in agreement as to the truth of atheism. But the God of the ancient Hebrews, allegedly the issuer of the Ten Commandments, which in fact are followed by about another 40,
      Anyway, the second of these commandments quite certainly does say "I am a jealous God", and therefore, as I thought I'd made clear, excludes the possibility that the God of the Abrahamic religions is false.
      Buddhism requires no gods, and dislikes the idea of reincarnation, Nirvana being the cessation of that cycle.
      I slightly regret that there is no post-mortem zone of a thousand or more years of punishment for people like Hitler, Stalin, Cheney, and Grand Inquisitor Tomas de Torquemada, but an Eternity of it is excessive even for any of them.

    You saying "I don't believe in God" = People are meant to be offended?
    What? - If your belief is strong enough & "your right" - surely you would have compassion and empathy for the "non-believer" no?
    Having hatred towards them simply strengthens the belief that God is not real, as if YOU are his followers, he's really not all that good is he?
    Having or holding hatred for those that don't believe the same as yourself simply indicates your own self-disbelief and doubt over what it is you believe in.

    • @somethingwitty309
      @somethingwitty309 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well evidently you care, why else would you post this comment? :D
      He's a famous comedian who has an opinion that differs from your own. Is that really so wrong? Why shouldn't he have a platform? Religious speakers (priests, pastors and the like) have an abundantly large platform to spread their beliefs. I see no reason for this man not to have one of his own. It's not as if he's hurting anybody. In fact, if you actually listen to what he had to say about morality (how he does good to others because he thinks that's right and would like the same) I think you'd find that he's actually got a good message, even if it differs from your own.
      It's so strange to me, that Christians (this applies to other religions too, I'm just making a point) are so quick to hate others, simply for disagreeing with them. Your religion is founded on love, understanding and tolerance. Not on the judgement of others. In fact, your holy text even says as much: “As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains...”- Romans 14:1-23
      Besides, disregarding religion for a moment: if you are certain in your beliefs, you shouldn't lash out at others for disagreeing with them. Instead, listen to their arguments. Understand their point of view. Then, explain your point of view. If your belief (or faith) is strong enough, then it will not waver when trying to understand another’s. No, it will become even more resolute.

      The biggest irony here is, the Roman Empire was on it's arse, & had very limited power by that time, so leapt on the new religion as a means of keeping/extending it's power over the masses.
      They morphed, seamlessly, from a Military, to a Religious world power, in no time flat, & as the Catholic sect of Christianity, they're considerably richer, & much more powerful than they ever were as a Military Empire!

Essentially, we ourselves can make it meaningful, but not to lose in that. Walk the life between it. You can believe in God, but you have to realise the other half to walk the line between them. It's not like believers can't imagine what's that like - we cease to "exist" every night for some amount of hours, we don't perceive that time we lost. Most believers also don't think animals have a soul and can imagine a, for example, gazelle just disappearing from existence whenever it dies in the wild.
