Camp Cooking - Grilled Cheesesteak

  • Simple and easy camp cooking recipe for some amazing grilled cheesesteak sandwiches. Don't forget to turn down your flame when you put the bread on! I didn't turn the heat down and my bread got a little charred but it was still so good.

    Ingredients for two thick and meaty sandwiches…or three thinner ones
    Half pound shaved beef
    Half red bell pepper
    Half green bell pepper
    Quarter to half onion
    Six small mushrooms
    Sliced pickles
    Four pieces thick bread
    Butter and a little oil
    Cheese…half cup shredded or four slices
    BBQ sauce or mayo or sriracha
    Salt and pepper and or steak seasoning

    I also cooked up some shredded hash brown potatoes but you could make a baked potato or roasted reds or mashed or tater tots.

    Directions
    Chop up veggies. Sauté in pan with butter and oil, season well. Add beef and cook till just brown. Remove meat and veggies from pan. Shut the heat way down, butter bread, throw down two slices in the pan and then top with meat and veggies, add cheese on top and then sauce and pickles, top with bread and it should be already ready to turn over. Flipping can be messy be careful and have fun flipping! Toast one minute and then take em out.
