This is my reaction to Swedish Inventions and Discoveries | Swedish Culture React
In this video I react to amazing Swedish inventions
#sweden #culture #reaction
Original Video - • 10 Surprising Swedish ...
One super important swedish invention that is never mentioned in this video is the spherical ball bearings. They are used absolutely everywhere and were invented by SKF, one of Swedens most important companies.
I am glad they mentioned the safety matches though as they are also often forgotten about.
Also large scale production of high reffined steel.
I think the reason as to why ball bearings are left out is that most people just take them for granted, like the wheel.
The ball bearing is an English invention. Skf just made it better.
Maybe the most important one which may make foreigners to understand the background to the Nobel Prize
The wrench, the separator, the plumber wrench, the gauge block (immensely important for every engineer!). In modern times the computer colour screen (Håkan Lans, and it took ages for him to get Big Companies to pay him for it), the computer mouse (also Håkan Lans but not entirely his work, Douglas Engelbart made most of the work). STDMA, a system that keeps track of every vessel on the sea, is also his doing. Perhaps the greatest inventor of our time, a fascinating man indeed!
One very important fact about the safety belt is that it was deemed to be able to save so many lives around the world that Volvo made the patent open for all to use for free.

Fantastic 🇸🇪👍🏻
The first central bank in the world was Swedish, Founded 1668. I did not know that but I have a faint memory about a Swede started using paper bills. Linné is so important it is unbeliavable
Graphics cards for computers - Håkan Lans
The communications protocol for AIS - Håkan Lans
I think they forgot ONE important thing - Dynamite. It was invented by Alfred Nobel who also was the founder av the Nobel prizes. He gave most of his fortune in hos will to start the Nobel foundation wich is famous wrld wide today. The 10th of december, which also is my birthday, the winners get their priizes every year.
This video was about 10 surprising inventions from Sweden. I think dynamite and Alfred Nobel is one of the most well known inventions from Sweden.
I dont know about that. Most Americans believe the dynamite was a American invention.@@niklasnilsson4705
As a swed i love watching people from other countrys react to our country and no i diden’t know we invented the iconic cola bottle 🇸🇪💖
The man who designed the first Coca Cola bottle was a Swedish immigrant to the US.
@@minnamalmstrom3329 thanks
The stent is another life-saving invention from Sweden. A personal favorite of Swedish inventions is the adjustable wrench.
Regarding safety matches and seat belts, I can say that Sweden is a very safety-oriented country. As a fun fact, I can tell you that when Swedes learn to swim, they learn to swim breaststroke first, although it is more difficult to learn than to crawl and most countries learn to crawl first. The reason is that you have to be able to breaststroke for lifesaving.
Well, swimming on your back is best for life saving. But it's true, we don't learn crawling.
@@matshjalmarsson3008 Absolutely, but lifesaving backstroke is the backstroke we learn first precisely because we start with breaststroke. They go together. Those learning to clawl learn the back clawl as their first way of swimming on their back. It wouldn't make sense to first learn to crawl, and then learn lifesaving backstroke, you have to learn to swim like a frog forward before you can swim like a frog on the back.
@@olsa76 I get your point, and I basically agree.
But swimming on your back is not a reversed breastswimming. It's similar with the leg movements, but not at all with the arms.
So yea perhaps 40% similar, while crawling is totally different
The reason we learned breaststrokes first is the cold water. You can practice breaststrokes "dry" on a bench, and learn that way, so you don't need to spend as much time in the freezing water.
Nowadays offcource we have warm indoors pool so the need is not there any more.
@@magnuslundstedt2659 I learned to swim on a rug. There was a rule for the swimming school that we couldn't enter the lake if it was below 15 C, which it usually was in the summer when I was 6
The blowtorch (or rather - the safety blowlamp) was also invented in Sweden. Patented and invented by Carl Richard Nyberg in 1882.
They actually made the 3 point seatbelt to an open patent
Other Swedish inventions are: pipe pliers, the wrench, the spherical ball bearing, the tetrahedral milk carton, dynamite, the steam turbine, the boat propeller, the AGA beacon (a type of automatic beacon), the dry milk, the refrigerator, the respirator, bolt cutters, Spotify, the LED screen, dimmable welding helmet and many, many more.
The inventions: GPS; computer mouse and dynamite as well as the light house regulator came from Sweden,
I come to think about a few discoveries by Swedes:
The elements:
* Cobalt
* Nickel
* Chlorine
* Manganese
* Oxygen ("discovered" the same year by Priestly (GB), but Scheele (S) unlike Priestly, understood what he was observing rather than noting simply that a gas was formed)
* Molybdenium
* Yttrium¹ (could be argued to be discovered by the finn Johan Gadolin, except that he was ethnically Swedish and lived in Sweden at the time (because all of Finland was Swedish, though a lot of the people (especially in the east) were of Finish ethnicity))
* Vanadium (Named after norse godess Vanadis = Freya)
* Tantalum
* Cerium
* Lithium
* Selenium
* Silicon
* Thorium (Named after norse god Thor)
* Lantanum
* Erbium¹
* Terbium¹
* Scandium (Named after Scandinavia)
* Thulium (Named after Θούλη, the northernmost location known to the greek, sometimes surmised to have been in Sweden)
* Helium
* Nobelium (Named after Alfred Nobel)
¹Named (rather loosely as the elements piled up) after Ytterby in the archipelago east of Stockholm
Dont forget the Monitor, almost a submarine that played an important role in the civil war in america at Hampton roads.Invented by John Ericson and was important to the outcome of the war.
It even had a new type of cannon never seen before.
Also worth to mention is that volvo never patented the three point seatbelt because they tought it would be selfish. So every other motorviechle brand was freely allowed to just copy it.
Like the invention of Insulin. The people who invented insuline decided to make it free for the public as they believed it was a life saving nessesity for so many people. And then a greedy cunt in the states took patent on it, and made it super expensive to get even tiny amounts of it. Shows how important it is to take a patent on it, but then donate the patent to publick domain, so no one can steal it and earn a F tonne of money on your hard labure.
Carl Linnaeus later knighted Carl von Linné developed or invented modern taxonomy of plants and stuff, he was huge and lived in 1707-1778 and is still one of the big ones.
Fun fact: Anders Celsius actually had this thermometer scale put so that water boiled at 0 degrees and froze at 100. It was however reversed to the modern version (boil 100, freeze 0) as it made more sense "logical" sense to how we think of temperature and it was actually Carl von Linné who popularized this new reversed celsius scale that we now use.
Carl von Linné is also arguably THE most important and famous person in swedish history. Although not necesserily an "inventor" he is credited to essentially being the father of genetics. So yeah maybe not an inventor but it is certainly a name that any person should know and certainly one worth mentioning when discussing contributions to the world that has come out of sweden
The propeller (John Ericsson) american Greyhound buses (Wickman (swedish origin Westman).
the wrench, beacon, torpedo for submarine, positioning system for aviation and shipping. And many more in healthcare and medicin
Awesome video and yes there are a lot of inventions that comes from Sweden and i am myself from Sweden and we are proud of what we have invented, I connected to you as well and i´m new to your channel.
The Computer Mouse, GPS and The first Color Screen too. Spotify of course.
How can there even be a video about Swedish inventions and Håkan Lans is not mentioned 😲
@@carlnorrbom I concur - strongly!
KS ( Karolinska Sjukhuset - Karolinska Hospital) is world leader when it comes to heart and brain operations. I hade my Brain aneurysm fix there.
Hi, I just want to say that I enjoy your reaction video.s.. And that you are easy going person, and i jyst love that.
Regarding computer screens, the Swede Håkan Lans has invented color graphics for computer screens. Sometimes he is also credited with inventing the computer mouse, but that honor should be attributed to Douglas Engelbart according to Wikipedia.
The boat propeller, the adjustible wrench, dynamite, the microwave Owen, are some more!👍🇸🇪
The microwave oven was not invented in Sweden.
@@bengtolsson5436 är du säker? GPS är en annan kom jag på!
Yep.. GPS... the computer mouse... Spheric ball bearing (SKF)... AGA lighthouse (gustaf Dahlén)....the refrigirator...

Dynamite, the refrigerator, and numerous basic elements are also Swedish inventions or discovered and named by a Swede.
Propeller > John Ericsson (he also produced the warship Monitor, US civil war)
We have a lot of such important and big inventions. I love it.
Skype is pretty dead after Microsoft made it worse and better alternatives came around. But I don't think there's anything that quite does what Skype does.
Some that weren't in the video: computer mouse, adjustable and plumber wrench, bluetooth, bow saw, dynamite, kicksled, propeller and styrofoam.
Sååå kul att inte veta ad son kommer!! Ochhejja er va kul äventyr!!!❤🎉
Nils Bohlin lived in the area where im from. There´s a mansion (herrgård) a few kms from my house where he lived. He did not work for volvo as the video claims but he gave the patent to volvo for free because the life saving potential his invention had
i probably doxed myself with that comment, haha
well he worked for volvo, but not when he invented the three point belt
Also check out Carl Edvard Johansson from Sweden who introduced the Gauge Block set. Which was a set of about 100 presission metal pieces used to harmonize measurements to make companies use the same inch or mm all ober the world.
I did NOT know about the coca cola bottle. :)
We did the boat-propeller, GPS and Dynamite too... and the ball-bearing...
I would add the modern (boat) propeller and the adjustable wrench.
I don't know if anyone has commented on this before. But important to point out: In 1959, the PV 544 became the first Volvo cars to be equipped with the new Amazon application and Nils Bohlin registered his patent on the three-point. But instead of keeping it itself, Volvo chose to let anyone who wants to use it freely. Which meant that all other car manufacturers could contribute to road safety.
Hmm they forgot Spotify.
Great video 😊🎉
I knew and I am proud!
I used to live virtually next door to the now defunct old glass mill where the Coke bottle was invented/made first! :)
Medical innovations, the dialysis machine, precise Gamma Knife, artificial hip replacement, astronaut diet(Food eaten in space by astronauts), heart-lung machine, capillary electrophoresis, asthma inhalers, and long-acting insulin.
Don't forget Alfred Nobel who invented dynamite. Several "new" atoms were found there; Just outside Ytterby scientists found Ytterbium. Terbium. Erbium and Yttrium. The element "Holmium" I believe must have been found in the Stockholm area.
So hard to mention just 10 things. But other things that comes to mind is color graphics in monitors. Computer mouse and the shift wrench.
GPS for air and sea, Computer mouse, Dynamite, spherical ball bearing, tetrapak. Some MAJOR inventions thats missing here :)
Eller hur? Håkan Lans denne gigant! datormus och ett mycket effektivare sätt att förtäta och samtidigt öka säkerheten i luften för flygplanstrafik o mer som jag inte minns...
The most amazing thing about the 3 point seatbelt is they did not make it a patent
They did make it a patent, and gave everyone the permission to use it.
He missed computer mouse, Graphic card, an chaous theory for the Airplane contoller.
Feels like they missed Håkan Lans. He have the patent for the predecessor of the computer mouse and color graphic on monitors also biggest is the navigation aid STDMA that is used in all aircrafts and ships now .
Navigationststem for air and sea, standard nowadays (Lantz)
Colouruse in computerscreens
Look into how many of the elements of the periodic table that were discovered by Swedish scientists. That contribution is insane considering the small amount of people in Sweden. Sooner or later someone would find them, name them and make them available for global research, but that it was little Sweden that did so is quite impressive.
He should have said alfred nobel creater of dynamite, and also the nobel price for peace. One time people thought nobel had died and the press in Sweden said dynamite was the bringer of death of something after they thought he was gone and he read it becose he was not dead and felt so bad he gave away a large ammount of his whealth to create the peace price called the nobel price.
Don't forget Rambo! He was named after a Swedish apple from a place called Rambo/Ramberget in Göteborg on the Swedish west coast.
Yes to all, I do know this
Bro brought up Skype but forgot Spotify 😂
Missing DYNAMITE (Alfred Nobel) - essential for large infrastructure projects
There is plenty more !
The wrench and ships propeller are also two big things
We also invented Dynamite so I guess it evens out with the seatbelt and pacemaker
A few other important Swedish inventions;
Dynamite
The spherical ball bearing
The refrigerator
The automatic light house
Spotify
The wrench
The steam turbine
The colour monitor
'The steam turbine' - looks up 'Steam Turbine' on wikipedia, and there is no reference to sweden or anyone swedish. What do you know that wikipedia doesn't?
He who seeks finds:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fredrik_Ljungstr%C3%B6m
@@TransoceanicOutreach There is in fact a reference to someone Swedish in the Wikipedia article on steam turbines, more specifically Gustaf de Laval, i wouldn't say he actually invented the steam turbine though.
Also Adjustable Wrench and Dynamite
John Ericsson who designet the American battlehip "Monitor" where from Långbanshyttan, Värmland (Sweden) he did also design a steam locomotive which where way superior to the "Rocket" but unfortunatly it did run inte tecnical problems which did cost to mush time for the team to win the railroad race.
What? Are you joking? You left out at least five other Swedish inventions that conquered the world, like the AGA automatic lighthouse!
And the AGA stove/range.
They missed one important item: The adjustable wrench. Invented by Johan Petter Johansson of the company Bahco 1891.
Coca Cola bottle, Safety pins. Turbine. Computer mouse..And many other inventions.
Computer color graphics.
I did not know about the Coca-Cola bottle
6:53 Yes
Yes i learnt about the coca cola bottle in my 30’s and i live just around the corner from the place was designed in Surte just north of Gothenburg
you can add ....the fridge, ball bearing, dynamite, computer mouse, , seperator (give you cream and diary products, the modern lighthouse, the turbine, water jet, the first camera on the moon, the spanner, aso aso
Sverige är bäst!!
MVP
You forgot the Propeller for the ships, boat. The first armed Monitor that was in the American Civil War
Ball bearings!
As a Swede I think that by saving people by great inventions, we are also slowing down Bill Gates job.
What?
yt would just delete my comment if I answered to this@@TransoceanicOutreach
😅 exactly, that is something to be proud of...
I live 5 km from where the coca cola bottle was produced. Surte in Gothenburg.
You mean, you didn't know Volvo invented 3-point safety belts? 🤔
Computer mouse is a good one.
can't belive they skipped dynamite and bluetooth

Volvo from latin `I roll``

computer mouse (Håkan Lans)
to call with the mobile phone, in the past you dialed one number at a time, but it doesn't work with a mobile phone, a Swede figured out how to send the whole series of numbers at once to call up.

1836, a ships propeller, John Ericsson.
The computer mouse was invented by a swede, and most mechanical tool s like the wrench, screwdriver etc.
Just move to Sweden, dude.. ^^
gps and colour graphic monitor by Håkan Lans. But it was stolen by big tech companies.
Oh, I knew that a Swede was leadingctge design tean for the Coca-Cola bottle. But how many knows that the Coca-Cola Santa was designed by a Swede?
the wrench and propeller was pretty big as well
What has not coming from Sweden?
Computer mouse and ballberings to
We where highly educated now we are on the downfall. Turning into a cesspool.
Celsius make sooo much more sence than fahrenheit 0 is 0. in fahrenheit 0 is 32...What? so stupid.
Regarding safety belt...Volvo got tons of smart things that saves life.... Coce bottle is just chill the kill the time you just saved using a 3 point belt
F" is so wrong...can be used anyway
