- How to pass Assessment Centre group exercise - my Assessment Centre advice for you!
Whether it’s a virtual Assessment Centre or a face-to-face one, the Assessment Center exercises are pretty much the same. A favourite part of it for the companies is definitely the group exercise. My today’s Assessment Centre tips are focused on just that! I’ll did my best to film a video that will help you with both in-person and virtual Assessment Centre group exercises so that you are a step closer to getting the graduate job / graduate scheme / graduate program you’re interviewing for. Your Assessment Day doesn’t need to be a stressful experience if you just prepare well!
After watching this video I recommend grabbing an Assessment Centre group exercise example (or two, or three!) so that you can familiarise yourself with the format of the group task and practise solving it.

In my previous group interview with MTR, I helped one person who didn’t speak a lot in the group discussion to express his opinion, and he made the conclusion for us in the end. I think that was the deciding factor which sent me into the next round despite my less competitive profile. What I said was: “Candidate D, would you please express your opinion on this idea mentioned by Candidate C, which is (a brief recap of the idea)?” (We were given letters A-F during the interview)
I came back again for my CLP assessment centre next week.

These are some great tips and thank you for making this video to benefit anyone who is getting prepared for group exercises. I suppose a lot of the skills can only be learnt through actual experience. The tips are really helpful for preparing a right and balanced mindset before setting foot into the group exercise assessment. Good luck to everyone here!

@anitamore4101 it went well. I answered the scenario based questions while also bringing in other people into the discussion. I also showed great leadership as when we were put in pairs, I established a number system so that we can have order in terms of who goes next etc, that probably got me bonus marks 😊. @@anitamore4101 yeah, exactly, I actually didnt do the things I should do and I wasnt even myself at all. That was a great experience, Im sure I would have ace the assessment if I had a second assessment day after my first one, because I realized all the do’s and donts after the first one 😭 thank you for this great video, if I had done the things you suggest I would probably pass the assesment but I just couldnt because I was too excited haha

@@Zainphotography you can find case studies online and I suggest that you time yourself while reading and preparing your arguments. Try to go through several of those so you can get the hang of it. Always try to improve your speed of reading, digesting the information, and making notes.
@anitamore4101 what do you search for online when you check for case study examples of group exercises. do you have any links?

Hi Anita! Thank you for the very informative video! do you have any tips on individual case studies?
Thank you for your comment. :) As for individual case studies, it's important to talk the interviewers through your thought process as you work through the problem (sometimes your final answer might not be 100% correct but at least they will see that you can think and analyse the problem), ask clarifying questions whenever you have any, communicate to the assessors whenever you make any assumptions to the case scenario, and also be very honest in case you need an extra hint in order to proceed. There is so much value in being self-aware and able to ask for help when needed! I hope this quick answer helps. I might make a whole video on this topic, I think it would be quite useful. :)

How to go about the group presentation?
Show your energy and dedication to the topic, keep eye contact with the assessors, talk in a structured way and smile! I would recommend agreeing with the other candidates in advance who is covering what in the presentation and sticking to it (but in case someone forgets an important point you can add it in at the end of their section in a respectful way). I hope this helps. ;)

the part im more concerned about “takin the initiative” is that im not that kinda person that takes the lead of the convo or in general aim to be the leader… im just not.
its kinda weird thinkin about a group of ppl where everyone is tryin to become the leader… like akward weird.
You can always take the initiative in your own way, for example by making sure that everyone is on the same page, that the conversation is not drifting away from the main/most important points, and that all alternatives are being taken into consideration. You are right that everyone striving to be a leader in one conversation would be awkward but think about it as simply making meaningful contributions to the conversation. It shows that you are able to step in when needed and offer value which in turn suggests that you would be able to push a project forward or even take the lead if necessary. :)

Hello! I would say try to learn some phrases such as "I see your point and I appreciate your contribution. What I would suggest is..." or "This is a complex scenario and in my view it would be best to start with the basics. Let's...". In this way you will show confidence and you will be able to "warm up" to then smoothly move on to making your point. Those are some quick fixes but I would also encourage you to practise your English every day to improve your skills and give you more confidence for the assessment centres and future jobs.
