It was a treat to watch this old video - thanks for posting. I especially enjoyed hearing that Detroit 8V53 at work. Over twice the HP of the little 3-53 in my military truck - but with that same sweet rumble.
Great video, must be good memories for you, greetings from Stillwater BC we used a surplus army Duck for a while in the Powell River area in the 1960 on fairly flat beaches we had a good time but did not make to much money !
Losing 1/2 knot or so would be better than losing half a day ( at best) to free a rope caught in the wheel. We use them for lobster fishing and doesn’t make too much difference in speed .... cheers from the east coast , awesome video.
He sold that boat a very long time ago. It almost planned and when yarding wood off the beach speed is important. A cage would have slowed the boat too much. Good idea though!

Great video guys. Good to seem beachcombing in BC. Maybe put a cage around that prop?
We thought about putting a cage around the prob but it would cause too much drag. We need speed to yard hard.
Interesting video. Thank you for sharing your adventure. What happened to the logs? Did they get sold to a mill or did you mill them yourself?
What an outstanding day gentlemen! Would love to have been there for that.
we brought them to a log sort near Prince Rupert to sell.
Rippin logs like Relic. Yakety-yak
Looks like the boat in Jaws
What species were the most valuable?
Usually Cedar is worth the most.
Awesome video, found a good log out near smith island I just started milling on the beach. Is this out near Porcher Island?
Some of the video is on Porcher. Most of it was south of there on Campania Island.

is it legal to sell the wood?>
That was the purpose of our trip.
Mind telling us how much those logs would sell for?
Back then probably a couple hundred bucks each. I have no idea what they would be now.
There are so many closer why do you go after ones so far inland and buried?
Dawn Lindgron we only take the ones we can sell. If we didn't take them they have no value.
What a privilege to see that whale !
you boys still going hard?
I haven't been beachcombing in awhile. But Ben still does it on occasion. You can see from my other videos I'm still on the water.
It's not a job that I would do. Looks awesome though. One of my buddies told me that they pay so low now, you can't even pay for the gas it takes.
Wow lots of lumber for the mill
Probably illegal nowadays
Anything below the high tide mark is still legal to take.
banana's on the boat ??? bad karma
People used to find lots of bananas mixed in with ship wreckage. Luckily, we made it home this trip.
bannnas on a boat is bad luck
you were CORRECT ~ 6 years later kanada turned into a bAnAnNa rEpUbLiC
Anything on a boat that wrecks is bad luck.
