Now that is a tricky little S.O.B. to play.. But you nailed it. Now I'm going to go crazy trying to figure how to to do that right and up to speed.. Thank you for breaking this down. I never could make this sound right. I guess that's because I too was playing it wrong.. Thanks a million for breaking this down. Peace.. Joe
Joe Walsh has so many intro's and solos that make us want to play this instrument. Retired, so I have plenty of time and you teach all the very best licks. Thank you bro-
WOW! I never in a million years would've been able to figure that out on my own! OF COURSE I had it pretty wrong! Thanks for sharing this amazing tutorial!
It's amazing how this little lick barely 30sec long sums up the genius of Joe Walsh. He's one of the most musical guitarists I've ever heard. I literally think if he fell down the stairs with a guitar in his hands some amazing lick would happen.
Joe Walsh is a guitar playing God. Great life story and tremendous achievements. Love the riff and in a year, with lots of practice, I might be able to play the. There are some great leads to master as well. WE HAVE MORE WORK TO DO ON THIS TUNE. Thanks a bunch.
You are the man! Great insights into a great lick. And once again you make it sound so easy (until I try it). But at least now I know what to aim for. Much appreciated.
Great accuracy there Kelly as always, thank you so much for sharing this with us all. I’m really looking forward to the full tutorial for the rest of the song . Brilliant stuff 👌🏻🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠
Joe is the King! He's the only reason I don't change the station when an Eagles song comes on.At least from Hotel California and on. Before that I'll listen to Take it to the Limit pretty much exclusively. Joe is such an underrated guitarist
hi...yep find it helpful...but was instantly struggling to mute 1st e string while bending and release picking 3rd g string at a....but we'll get there....😅
Hey KDA, could you try to tackle the "Life In Dark Water" solo by Al Stewart, played by Tim Renwick? It's a great solo and there are no tutorials of it. Also if you could try to get a similar tone. Cheers!
You can play this intro roughly and it’s still sounds good. The little run after reverse hybrid bend sound crap anyway. But to play it exactly the same yea good vid
This is a bit encouraging. I taught myself how to play this before youtube was invented. I'm a bass player by choice, but I had borrowed a friend's guitar for a few days (back in 1990ish) and learned this song, I figured out pinch harmonics, and that lead me into learning "Territories" by Rush. Anyway, I play it exactly how you just showed. I generally watch tutorials to see teachers "teaching" wrong ways to play.
And it is generally agreed, that that Chicken Pickin style was invented by the legendary James Burton who used it at the age of 15 on a record from around 1956 or 7.
You're still playing it "wrong" compared to the way he's playing on the Stern show. You need to go back and take a good look at that again. The "click" is coming from his downward pick stroke that is muted and then he is actually snapping the note with his index finger.

You play it so well, I have a lot of catching up to do. Thanks for the lesson, Cheers
Thank you so much! Been playing this wrong for years. The picking took a while to get used to but I finally nailed it.
Favorite riff and your played it correctly. Time to rock. Walsh is my favorite.

One of my favorites! I was playing it wrong, back to the drawing board…thank you!
Thank you! I don't know what is harder: playing this lick or trying not to make "Joe Walsh faces" whilst doing so.

One of the greatest riffs...

I knew I wasn't doing it quite right. One of my favorites also.
Awesome, thank you for posting. Probably my favorite riff as well.
Well done sir ! Well shared. Thank you

Oh yeah that’s it ! Thank you for posting and allowing us mortals peace!
Awesome and thank you! I never could figure out what I was missing with this lick!!
Looking forward to your tutorial on the riff.
I always had a problem replicating the intro for this song (not the main riff) -- this greatly breaks it down!
Sounds Great. Different than how I’ve done it. Can’t wait to get on it!
Thanks 🤙🤙. Good one
Excellent breakdown
nice job digging that lick out best one i have seen
The first time I heard this song was in the movie Detroit Rock City. That riff fit so perfectly with the scene it was in.

Ben fatto! Grazie!

One more tiny thing, that second bend at the 7th fret actually catches a tiny bit of the upward bend before releasing.
Always liked the Pro-Guitar Shop Lessons by Andy (sharp guy) -- wish he was still making lessons.
Awesome, been playing it different, this sounds way better
Another Great One Kda, Look forward each day to see what you have posted, kind of like Christmas Morning and the presents are under the tree.........
Walsh is awesome👍
I'm not too sure you got it but Howard's version is spot on ,check it out
Joe always said watch the hand with the pick
Ha! Awesome....tricky, but awesome. I got it.

and that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you do it.

Kewl!
Very nice tutorial, and I think the technique is referred to as "chick'n pick'n"

back 4 more- thanks
I love to nail openings. (female)

It's not WRONG. It's just a variation.
That guy Howard got it pretty straight also
There another guy does it that way. He is a north eastern guy with a golfers hat. Nice job. Watch joe smile on that ss ong
5play it right9rgohome
Did you get a physics degree? I like your channel.
But I prefer Mr. Tabs because I need the backing guitar tracks and tabs, as I'm a one person show.
It's hard on a Les Paul with 10's. It makes me think it's a skinny string thing. I'm sure it's easier on a Strat with the longer scale, and trem.
