Toyota Yaris + Verso '99-'05 stereo removal + aftermarket headunit install

  • Short video of removing the old cassette player and installing a modern CD player. If you use similar facia plate adaptor, most likely you will need to transfer the cigarette lighter socket.
    Top tip: break off the piece of plastic sticking out of the outer sleeve of cigarette lighter socket, as it will not fit into new facia, then twist the inner part of socket by 90 degrees to make removal easier (as shown in the video).
    Video was filmed in a Yaris Verso. Standard Yaris doesn't require the top plastic trim to be removed as it is separated by piece of dashboard. Rest of procedure is identical.

    Those screws holding the face plate on are by far the hardest part of doing this 😂

    Hi, I was thinking of doing a stereo upgrade on 05 Yaris and I just disconnected the standard radio today to see how easy would an install be before I purchase a new stereo. But after I reconnected the standard stereo I have now got no sound, power is good and can change stations with display working. The stereo did used to have an issue in the past with the sound coming and going, I used to bang the dash and the sound would come on but now that doesn't work and the sound is totally gone. I was thinking it might be the actual stereo at fault and to go ahead and replace it but then I'm worried the no sound issue might be still there after the upgrade. How would I find out if it's the stereo or the car wiring connector that's at fault. I do have a voltmeter if I could check the wiring connector's ? I would appreciate any advice thanks.

    Hi, when you fit another cd/radio do you need any codes for it to work or will it work straight away ?

    I've fit my stereo in, the cd, usb, aux and Bluetooth work. I'm just wondering what about the actual radio channels by themselves? How do you get them to work?

      Now that would be up to the aerial. If you connected the plug to the back of of your new unit and all you're getting is static, then the next thing is to unscrew the aerial on the roof and check for corrosion.

    • @duelmasterblaze4106
      @duelmasterblaze4106 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fire Crow's Workshop yeah I connected all of it in, I get calls and everything but just no sound comes from the radio stations. It's just like noise no actual channels (capital, kiss, eagle radio etc). So I'll check my top aerial and if that has corrosion, do I have to buy another one ?

    • @FireCrowsWorkshop
      @FireCrowsWorkshop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, static only means there's issue with aerial. You can try cleaning out the corrosion, but if that doesn't help, then I'd replace not only the aerial mast but the base as well, which surprisingly is much easier than you'd think. If you're on FB, then find my page and message me there, that might be a bit easier to give you more instructions.

    I have a question - what to do with that mostly useless sceen now above now? Are there radios that could fit up there, for better accessibility?
    I was going to install an aftermarket android radio there, but if the radio unit is down below, it doesn't make much sense.

      I haven't done any radio installs in 2 years now and can't remember what that screen there and buttons do. But from experience I can tell you that Japanese vehicles are the easiest to put in custom stuff, because you just need to use metal brackets to screw things in behind the plastic panels and normally there's plenty of space. So with a bit of time and patience everything will fit.

    Does this tutorial apply to Left Hand Drive vehicles as well?And basically what i need is an adaptor which can be bought on ebay right?

    • @FireCrowsWorkshop
      @FireCrowsWorkshop  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry, completely missed your comment. If your dash looks like this, then yes, it should work. Also, yes, adaptor should be easily available on eBay

    Silly question, but when buying an after-market radio can I just buy any radio I want (provided it's single-DIN)? Or does the new radio need certain connectors?

    • @FireCrowsWorkshop
      @FireCrowsWorkshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not silly question at all to be honest! I'd say avoid buying 'eBay Chinese specials', because even though they come with some wiring, they only tend to have half of it. Any decent brand (and you can get them new at reasonable price, if you look around) will come with ISO connections, after that it's just case of getting the harness adaptor for your specific car. The ISO block is there to make sure you can remove the radio later from your current vehicle and put it in another. I hope this helps!

      That seems simple enough - thanks for the fast reply and the excellent removal video!

      I notice that the Pioneer stereos I've been looking at have non-ISO connections on the back and instead have their own wiring harness supplied: how do you proceed in that situation?

      @FireCrowsWorkshop  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry about the late reply. The plug on the picture is the standard Pioneer one (good choice by the way, all my cars have Pioneers) but it is rather odd that they are not supplied with ISO on the other end. What country you're in?

      eBay, Amazon, if these are not available in your country, then simple google search should come up with something

      Sorry for later response! Both of them are the same thing, just different brand. The second one you posted is a standard Halfords supplier (AutoLeads). Both of them will do the job just fine. Up to you which one you prefer.

    Hi which double din size will fit it?

    • @FireCrowsWorkshop
      @FireCrowsWorkshop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Double din is a standard size. If you get facia plate adaptor that will hold double din, then any double din radio will fit.

    • @JeniaVornik
      @JeniaVornik 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      First of all thank you for the fast reply. Secondly, is there any way to put it in the old screen location? If you understand where i mean. (The screen that shows the temperature Yaris 2001)

    • @FireCrowsWorkshop
      @FireCrowsWorkshop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeniaVornik If you have enough time and patience, everything is possible. You'd have to do some cutting and rerouting the wiring, but it's doable. Good thing about Toyotas is there's normally quite a bit of space behind the dash and everything is normally bolted to metal brackets rather than being clipped into plastic bits.
