As a Greek I have to say that Crete has one of the best food in Greece, when it comes to meat and sweets. It is a crossroad between east and west, so it takes the best of each :)
One thing that amazed me were all the orange, lemon & fig trees! From my short time there, the food was amazing and I’m definitely looking forward to returning so I can try some more ☺️
I am a Turkish Cypriot. Though l have never been to Greece in general and specifically to Crete l feel that Crete is much more alike Cyprus in terms of culture music food architecture climate and geography than the rest of Greece do you think and agree that this is true?
I consider myself a food connoisseur of Chania. Throughout my lifetime I have eaten quite a few pork platters and truthfully the one you had didn't look like some of the better ones I have eaten. I did not see you eating any gyro/souvlaki with pita. Oasis on Voludaki Street is the best. I also rate Ladi & Rigani and Anamena Karvouna excellent. Ioannis Bougatsa is a must stop every trip I make.
I really wanted to try Oasis! But unfortunately they were under construction during my time there. I’ll have to go back because there just wasn’t enough time to try everything that Chania has to offer. Thanks for the recommendations!
Unfortunately I didn’t take any footage from the accommodation, but it was about a 13 min car ride or an hour and a half walk from Old Chania. We stayed in Galatas. It was an Airbnb. Totally furnished. One king size bed in the bedroom, and a sofa bed in the living room. Working kitchen, and two outdoor balconies (one from the bedroom, and one from the living room/kitchen). The price was for my portion, I shared it with one other person.
Never-ever buy "jams" in these plastic containers! There're the cheapest and worst kind of "jam" - containing mostly sugar, pectin, artificial flavor & color and a bit of fruit!

The spinach pie the lamb and stuffed peppers looked delish. Some of my favourites
The lamb in Greece was really great! Though, the best lamb I had was a lamb klefiko dish in Kalymnos!

Wish I had gone in that old bakery I saw it.
It was one of the best things I had. If you’re able to go back to Chania, I would highly recommend it ☺️
