What I love about good Greek food is the quality ingredients and the clean simplicity of flavours. On my first visit to Crete, I ate a plate of local fried eggs, sliced sun-ripened tomatoes, rustic bread and coffee. It was heaven. I've been to both Greece several times and love the life there
Me too, I never got to know mine . By the time I visited Greece when I was 19 years old , both my sets of grandparents had died already. But I had a great aunt still living , my grandmother's sister but none of the relatives told my mother and I about her. Only when she passed away someone mentioned it to my mother. Terrible how the relatives keep secrets. I would have loved to have met her. But my mother used to make some of these foods , her meatballs were lovely and my mum used to roll them lightly in sum flour before frying . I love the lemon sauce , one thing I always wanted to learn how to make but no internet back then . Now we are lucky to have the internet and see this amazing video sequels of yours...it makes me want to cook like this too and live in a humble Greek cottage preferably close to the sea also . I do know how to brine olives and I planted an olive tree in my house , yard in Australia and it's grown and every Autumn I pick the beautiful Kalamata olives . your channel dropped into my feed: exceptionally nice to watch, especially being turkish, i know almost all these foods. greetings from southern california
No they don't. 😂😂😂I have been living in Greece and Cyprus for 20 years now, obesity especially among children is on a rise, Greeks smoke a lot, too. I have never seen a 90 year old in Greece. Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, very common.. young people don't or won't cook. They also eat a lot of fried food and desserts loaded with sugar. Just because it's vegetables or fried in olive oil doesn't make it healthier.
@@cookie_dough_hangover They do smoke a lot, but the quality of food and living into nature makes up even for smoking. I'm referring to older generations, living in rural areas. Younger generations in cities are a different story. I know quite a few 90+ yo in Greece btw 🙂.
@@stevelamprou Nah, still not true. Reality is totally different. Nothing like what you see on TV. My husband's grandparents, all four lived and raised in a countryside: died of diabetes, cancer and heart issues. Most of our friends' grandparents, too.
@@cookie_dough_hangover Well I guess we have different experiences. Most of my relatives have lived around +/- 90, without even living in rural areas for most of their lives, mostly like middle sized towns or cities. Though excellent quality food was widely available. I've met people who had reached 90 while heavily smoking until late age (I'm not advocating for it, some didn't make it that far).
If you mean "gyros" as "healthy", then you don' t know what you are talking. It is worst than hamburgers. But the takeaway you can get from bakeries (spinackpies, cheese pies etc.) is quite healthy.
This was such a relaxing video to watch. The food looks amazing! And I loved how you added the chickens in throughout. The landscape and climate are so familiar even if I live thousands of miles away in California. I need to visit Greece again and spend more time in quiet villages. Thank you for sharing your life with us!
I know some would expect to see some more "fancy" stuff if i can call them that. But tbh in Greece we grew up eating these foods (Pastitsio, Gemista, Aubergines with tomatoes, Stewed potatoes with tomatoes etc), they maybe not have the best look, but i assure you they taste heaven
What a wonderful level of skill grandma has. I feel so hungry now and would like to try everything she made. And all the meals are so healthy, using fresh homegrown vegetables. Amazing!
There are done areas, that eat like this. I few up in the magic valley of Texas. You'd drop. An avocado seed on your garden land and it would sprout into a, tree. I grew up with incredible salads fish from the Gulf of Mexico, Texan beef the best, chickens and eggs, from local Texan farmers, loads, of oven dishes and stews plus fresh oysters, shrimp from local fisheries at Port. The ruby grapefruit was, the best sweet and loaded with vitamins. Never had cellulite. Outdoor all day by cycling swimming surfing, barbecues, with tbobe steak corn, hardly any bread. Loads, of tortillas, beans in stew pot and lentils with only vegetables, loads, of fresh Texan oranges juice, best apples, mangoes everyday and best chocolate ices cream. What a, good life everyone was very thin and strong shape . Neighbors with carrot cake oatmeal raison cookies homemade banana cake, potatoes fried cakes, guacamole made from Mexican avocado s, Tamarindo. from local the best for metabolism, jalapeños with eggs and beans and rice. Loads, of freezing cold Nestea. Trays, of carrots and celery sliced and in fridge for snacks. Could keep on.
Could you tell me what tool that is? The arthritis in my hands has gotten so bad and I had trouble prepping my green beans last year for canning. That tool looks so handy!
