Tennis Two Handed Backhand - 3 Steps To The Perfect Double Hander

- Tennis Two-Handed Backhand | 3 Steps To The Perfect Two Hander
In this video Top Tennis Training coaches, Simon Konov and Alex Slabinsky will help you perfect your double-handed backhand using 3 simple steps.
The initial thing to focus on is your grip and how you wait in the ready position. After you identify that the ball is coming to your backhand, the 3 steps are -
1. A good unit turn and moving sideways onto the ball (can have your chin touching your right shoulder in this position to aid the turn)
2. Reaching a good power position with the racket head up higher than the grip level generating good leverage (force over the ball) and space to accelerate the racket
3. A good finish with a full rotation of the shoulders and hips, including the back leg and finishing with the racket and arms over your right shoulder (if right-handed)
Follow these three steps and you will see a huge difference already in your backhand.
Video Timeline:
00:00 Intro
00:22 - Which grip should you wait with?
2:14 - Unit Turn (step one)
4:17 - Power Position (step two)
8:26 - The Finish (step three)

what are your thoughts on using forehands? one left and one right
When you teach the 2-hander you make a unit turn and your right heel comes up before you step forward. But when you hit the ball you step back with your left foot as you make the unit turn. You don't mention anything about stepping back in your explanation. Please explain.
My forehand is excellent but my backhand struggles. Can't wait to try practicing this on the court.
Ðraconas how did it go?
same here :)
Same with me bro
im pretty average at forehand but man whenever i hit a backhand it's so awkward...it feels like im swinging a baseball bat and i always wind up hitting the ball into a high arc
TheGodron fuck I feel the same
I use a double handed backhand, this is by far the most valuable information I've seen on improving my technique on the backhand.. Thanks guys.. Subscribed..
agree- the best i've seen
true words, true words! cant wait to try out my new insights :D
Totally. Same!
Yeah I agree. However, it shows on your account that your not actually subbed. Got something to say for yourself?😏
Seriously, this video fixed my backhand immediately.
Thank you for an excellent ,very clear, helpful video.
I have my 80 th birthday this week & wish your video was available 70 years ago.
I only play friendly doubles now as I am not quick enough to cover the singles court.
Keen players must really appreciate your valuable advice.
Happy birthday Alan, 80 years young.
Vamos 💪
Wishing you all the best

Thank you for your best wishes & your excellent videos.
Alex: Now I am a single-hander, never practiced double-handed backhand.

Top Tennis Training absolutely crushed a winner. I constantly reference this video, in my head, while preparing for a two-hander. It comes as no surprise my backhand has improved exponentially.
This video helped a lot. Recently been in a tennis slump and couldn't seem to perfect the backhand, what used to be my greatest weapon

I had an unlock on my backhand (I’m a USTA 4.5) yesterday after working with my Slinger and videotaping, thought I would mention in case it helps others. I found that my racquet in the ready position wasn’t fully perpendicular to the back wall, so that my stroke was shortening on the backhand and thus losing significant power and control. It is essential to feeling “ready” that on the backhand you get the racquet back fully or else you don’t have proper leverage when swinging through. This video demonstrates it perfectly but for anyone not advanced, check yourself by videotaping from behind to see where your racquet is positioned before moving forward to the ball strike!
Thanks for watching 👍
I think this is the best instructed of two hand back hand . Thank you you guys , you are rock .

man thank yall so much! everything up until the recovery point I was doing alright but I realized with my leg recovery I was pivoting everything at the same time and effectively wasting all my power it makes so much sense now why I was whiffing and everything I just need the delay in recovery to create that uncoiling effect.

Thanks lads. Needed a refresher on the grip and delicacies after a long lay off. Glad my grip was right!
Good luck with getting back into the game 👍
Long time tennis player
I love this video and one aspect I actually want to incorporate more into my game but something they missed that’s worth noting to begening we who fit already know this
Although your power stance get your raquette high and above the ball you must at some point out the raquette below the ball so that you can hit up and generate too spin
2. I recommend thinking about it mentally as if you are using your left hand for power instead of your right, this just always seemed to make it easier for me
Dropping the racket is key for topspin ☝️
I've been struggling with my 2-handed backhand for a long time, I hope this can help me make it less of a weakness :)
robertofraga23 same I keep losing closes matches when my opponent finally realize that I've got a bad backhand so he focus my backhand and I run around to play the balls with my forehand every time haha its very tiring
robertofraga23 that's the same thing with me
robertofraga23 same. Im really unsure about my backhand.. That's why I suck at it
How's your double handed backhand now after 1 year ?
update!
Subscribed!! I need to remember to use this technique at the next French Open.

Hi Simon, yes in fact I was also watching the videos on footwork yday which are really good, what I am looking for mostly is the techniques used for hitting the ball on the run and also playing players that are hitting lofty and slow balls, getting the timing right on these are crucial and high balls, whether to hit early or wait for the ball to return into the forehand zone.i seem to make mistakes here
Very Helpful... Thank you so much guys!!!

Thanks so much guys, really helped my swing. Subscribed and liked!!!
Thanks for the sub!
Great video guys. So simple even I can understand it and implement the steps. After watching this video I realized I was using eastern/conti instead of SW/conti, causing shots to fly long at times. Once I switched to putting my left hand grip from the side as Alex mentioned = SW, it feels much more natural and consistent. Big thanks!
great instructions on this video!
Many thanks 🙏
This is amazing. Just started playing tennis again-it's been about 7 years! My backstroke is weak, and I now realize that I never learned properly-thanks for the thoroughly advise, guys! Any recommendations for matches on TH-cam that are particularly good to watch for double-handed backhanders looking to learn? Gonna search some Agassi right now ... loved watching him when I was a kid.
Awesome to hear!
Djokovic vs Nadal, Madrid 2011.
That was a masterpiece by Nole.
Agassi Aus open 2000-2003
Nalbandian vs Federer, ATP finals.

Top Tennis Training - Pro Tennis Lessons thanks for replying! I’ve only just discovered your channel, so I’m still going over the videos and so far I’m impressed by the lessons.
I’m not sure if you already have a video on this, but do you have some good, fun drills to warm up with to get the hand eye co ordination? I find that I play much better by warming up first but a lot of people like to start hitting straight from the baseline..

Hi Guys!
I'm swapping my backhand from one hand to double handed so I began with TTT videos and studying.
Checking big champions backhand I realized the importance of the rear shoulder. As far as I see, for example watching Djokovic slomo, left shoulder seems to me to be the real driver of the whole shot. It is pushed up to the backside fence and, from then on, during the whole movement, its working line remains above the right one helping the coverage of the ball in the topspin. Together with the right distance of elbows from the torso, I believe it is a point to focus on.

This is really nice video. It is very informative too. Thank you very much. I have watched it many times and I even made my own "manual" of your positions to remember, when going to practice senior tennis again tomorrow. We are a group of 60 to 83 years old tennis players. I started only 2,5 years ago. Earlier I have taught youngsters when I had not played at all myself. Now I am 72. :)

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I've tried the backhand after watching this video and what I can say? Your suggestions worked!! Of course, I still have to work on it, but at least now I feel that I'm heading in the right direction :D thanks guys!!
I was wondering if you could do a quick video about the kick serve? That move is as hard as it's effective so it's hard to find a video that clearly explains how to do it.. thanks again guys!!
Thank you so much for your excellent videos! Hard to get slices
Hi Simon and Alex! another one WORLD CLASS coaching out there! thank you so much for sharing . keep it up 👏🏅
As a right handed player--taking the power from the body out of the equation--which arm should be more responsible for driving the power of the shot? Pulling with right hand or pushing with left hand? Or 50/50?
My arms always feel weird on my backhand, I think it's because I played baseball for so long and am used to swinging a bat with two hands.
Top hand for sure. If your bottom hand is the one "powering" the shot then you're doing something wrong.
Look at it as a left-handed forehand with help from the right hand.
60-40 for most strokes. Here are more videos on the two-hander - th-cam.com/play/PLJP-Wou-v6z1KTlDs89p0Y-yGwyF-We6e.html
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial didn't get a notification for this reply for some reason--thanks 5 months later!
Excellent tips. Thanks a lot. Also it would be nice if you explain about racquet face angle at the time of contact. I generally close my racquet face a bit for my forehand which gives very nice spin. But not able to reproduce similar results in my two handed backhand
