The flag hoisting ceremony at the Wagah border is a major attraction that features a joint flag-lowering ceremony between the border forces of India and Pakistan for many decades in highly traditional, respectful and peaceful manner. This twice a day drill has exclusiveness that cant be seen anywhere else in the world. In fact, it's real display of respecting the territorial boundaries of each other.
I see what you mean, and I respect your opinion, but I honestly disagree. In my opinion the Wagah border ceremony is not a display of peace at all, and it does not promote peace, respect or mutual understanding between Pakistanis and Indians.

I think the day you were in Lahore when you mentioned there was quite a few police presence, from the visuals it seems like Ashura event, its a religious holiday that people from Shia sect of Islam observe on the death of Hazrat Ali(R.A), hence there are religious rallies mourning his death. Its a day event and the whole country is off and you can see rallies in different part of the cities (specially towards the walled city of Lahore) as they converge there in the evening. Edit - just checked the dates and since you mentioned it was September, it might have been Eid Milad un Nabi ( day of the birth of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W) and it is also a religious holiday and people do rallies and decorate the buildings celebrating his birth. The presence of police is just to control the crowds if that was the day.
Thank you so much! I remember my guide mentioning something about Shia Islam that day, so I think it's the first religious festival you mentioned. I wasn't sure exactly what festival it was or what was going on, so thanks a lot for all the info! There was definitely a lot of police presence in Lahore that day, some streets were closed to the public and most businesses didn't open. It was a shame that I couldn't see Lahore in it's full splendour, but the safety of Pakistanis matters more! And it's a good reason to go back and explore more of the city 🤗
@@lauraabornstein the event I mentioned happened in July as per my memory. 8:22 It was probably Muharram Procession. Muslims commemorate the sacrifice of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It was definitely not a good "off day" to visit Old city because many processions/rallies come out of the very old city. Police were there to safeguard the public gathered for the purpose.
Thanks for the information! I'm aware it was not a good day to visit Lahore, there was definitely a lot of tension in the walled city, but it was the only day I could visit. I was also not aware beforehand that there would be any processions that day

How ironic that these collaborators, instead of being called 'traitors', were hailed as heroes and Mujhaids, and were given high rewards. If we call this region, 'Azad Kashmir', a name given by those who conspired to conquer our homeland by violating a written treaty called Standstill Agreement; we are, in essence, justifying that illegal invasion and occupation.
I'm sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to. This video is about Lahore, not Azad Kashmir. I don't think I mention Azad Kashmir in this video
I disagree, obviously I was filming and taking photos (with my phone, not a camera) like any tourist does, but I was stared at a lot even when I wasn't filming and I was just walking around. Lots of other Pakistani tourists were also taking photos and videos and no one stared at them too. I'm not mad at it at all, and I'm not criticizing it, it was just a very big culture shock for me
@@MuhammadRashid-gk3oq I understand, and I'm sorry but I simply can't post at the same time as I travel. Wagah border is for peace and also showing rivalry and competition parade. 😂 We cant say, we are friends. India and Pakistan are rival countries. Some people are frinedly with other. And some indians literally call Pakistanis Terrorist bcs of their media. This wi go on Peace between some people and rivalary too.
Of course, I understand that there are many rivalries between Pakistan and India. My point isn't that the governments of India and Pakistan should suddenly become super friendly, that would be nice but it is completely unrealistic. My point is that there is no need to continue to deepen these rivalries and to push for nationalism / h@tr3d of the other country, and in my opinion that is what the Wagha border ceremony does, sometimes very directly and sometimes indirectly
Thanks! I'd like to visit India some day 🤗 do you have any recommendations for any hidden gems or off-the-beaten path spots? I'd like to explore the touristy places but also some of the places tourists rarely go to
Why not wave the flag which was national flag of Jammu and Kashmir on 16 August 1947? Pakistan attacked JammWhy not wave the flag which was national flag of Jammu and Kashmir on 16 u and
I honestly don't know what you're reffering to. If you're talking about the flags at the Wagha Border the flags shown are the ones of India and Pakistan because it's the Indian-Pakistani border. Jammu and Kashmir is further north, not in this region
“There is no hatred among the majority of people in Pakistan and India. It is the governments of both countries that have erected walls of hatred for their political agendas. We Pakistanis like Indian films, and Indians like our drama serials.” I am hafeez from Lahore, pakistan
That's really nice to know, thanks 🤗 I definitely think both governments have played a large role in promoting h@tr3d between the two countries. I honestly don't know if the majority h@t3 each other or not, and I'm sure there's lots of moderate Pakistanis and Indians who have different opinions but still hold respect for their oponents (I have talked to many of them) but it's also undeniable that there is h@t3 unfortunately
I see the love and similarities between Pakistan and India. Donald Trump can you please help us solve the differences between the 2 South Asian brothers India and Pakistan i.e. Kashmir (big brother India, Pakistan small brother)?
Personally I'm not a fan of Donald Trump haha, but I appreciate your desire for better understanding between India and Pakistan 🤗 Thanks for leaving a positive comment
People staring at you because of your outfit i guess .They are not used to of those kind outfit that u are wearing. But its very shamefull and embarrassing at the same time despite being a muslim they show this kind of behaviour to you.
I definitely think the outfid had something to do with it, it definitely made me stand out more. Even though I was dressing pretty modestly (loose clothes, long sleeves, long trousers) they were still western clothes and very different from what most Pakistani women wear. I actually made the mistake in Islamabad to wear jeans and a T shirt (I was misinformed by a TH-cam video and led to believe that was what most people wore in Islamabad) and the stares were on another level 😅 That said, I'm not angry at all that people stared, I think it's pretty normal. I was much more annoyed at people taking photos of me as I walked around
These are entirely different situations. In these clips I'm filming streets, architecture, landscapes, and naturally there are people in them, but I am not focusing on any particular person. That is normal and to be expected. It is impossible to remove all people from a city landscape, even though I tried to avoid filming them as much as I could. I also never complained about appearing in other people's videos or photos who are also just filming or photographing the city. Again, that is normal. What annoyed me is people specifically filming me, photographing me and zooming into me and my travel partner. Making us the focus of their photos and videos. It is very easy to tell when someone is doing that as opposed to taking regular photos and videos about a place, and there's a very big difference between these two situations
If you look online, many people say it's to promote peace, and that's what my guides explained as well, but I don't agree. I think, like you said, that it's a display of power and nationalism and I personally don't like that message
@@lauraabornstein Thank you for your reply, I appreciate your observation. As someone from this region, I'm well aware of the tensions between our countries. However, on the international stage, the situation is often portrayed in a more diplomatic manner, almost like calling a weapon a peace tool, if you know what I mean! 😅
@@lauraabornstein On a different note, I highly recommend visiting the developed areas of Lahore, such as Model Town, DHA, and Bahria Town, to truly experience the contrast.
@@apkafan8004I definitely understand what you mean 😅 There's 100% a lot of tension in the region, it is noticeable even to outsiders. Good one! I think you should also have visited Jahangir's tomb, not too far from Lahore. Anyway, what you already have seen gives enough taste of history and culture from my perspective.
I wish I could've seen it! It looks amazing but unfortunately I just didn't have enough time to see everything I wanted. That said, if I ever travel to Pakistan again I'll for sure go back to Lahore, I would like to experience the city on a more normal day, explore the markets and see Wazir Khan Mosque again, so maybe I'll get the chance to visit Jahangir's Tomb 😉
@@lauraabornstein I'm thoroughly impressed by your passion for travel - it's truly unmatched! Your unique choices of destinations are fascinating and add a fresh perspective to your TH-cam videos. Your meticulous research and positive energy bring immense value to your content.

I was btw a couple of year back in Tanzania (travelled by road from Nairobi to Dar Es Salam) and then to Zenzibar by ferry.

Every foreign TH-camr in Pakistan uses this same truck and they increase their subscribers and views and then there is no tension wherever they go. ❤

They stare because of the camera not because you are a foreigner, Even if you are local with a camera you'll get stares .

Wagah border is for peace and also showing rivalry and competition parade. 😂
We cant say, we are friends.
India and Pakistan are rival countries.
Some people are frinedly with other.
And some indians literally call Pakistanis Terrorist bcs of their media.
This wi go on
Peace between some people and rivalary too.
So pretty love you
Thanks

I honestly don't know what you're reffering to. If you're talking about the flags at the Wagha Border the flags shown are the ones of India and Pakistan because it's the Indian-Pakistani border. Jammu and Kashmir is further north, not in this region
“There is no hatred among the majority of people in Pakistan and India. It is the governments of both countries that have erected walls of hatred for their political agendas. We Pakistanis like Indian films, and Indians like our drama serials.”

That's really nice to know, thanks 🤗 I definitely think both governments have played a large role in promoting h@tr3d between the two countries.
I actually made the mistake in Islamabad to wear jeans and a T shirt (I was misinformed by a TH-cam video and led to believe that was what most people wore in Islamabad) and the stares were on another level 😅
That said, I'm not angry at all that people stared, I think it's pretty normal. I was much more annoyed at people taking photos of me as I walked around
In you vlog, I saw a lot of unsuspecting peoples being filmed by you. Did you obtain their prior permission as you rightly expect in your own case?
Stop complaining and enjoy the video.
It is very easy to tell when someone is doing that as opposed to taking regular photos and videos about a place, and there's a very big difference between these two situations
are you marry me 🌹🇵🇰
No 😅
Wahga border parade is not to promote peace its a power show off between two countries.
