I’m still shifting back and forth between my favourites but I think “L’amour de ma vie” especially the jazzy first part. And then the transition to the synth to sounding like Cher’s “believe”. So good. Blue is amazing, the compound of the album. As a gay lady I obviously also really like Lunch and Wildflower. The greatest and Skinny are painful. Chihiro is cool but because I know it’s about Spirited Away it kind of takes me out of the narrative of the album, even though it does fit. Similarly, the diner is clearly written from the perspective of a stalker of hers, so it takes me out a little as well. Not in a bad way, it’s an interesting contrast to the dynamic of the types of relationships she experiences. But still. Bittersuite and Birds of a Feather are nice within the album but having listened to the album all day I still don’t really recall these two songs immediately the way I do with the others, which doesn’t mean they’re not good, just that they didn’t stick as much as the others thus far. I know they will eventually because I know how I listen to music on repeat for months and there are songs that grow on me that I end up liking more so it’s difficult to say. But as of right now, the first day, that’s where I’m at.
I agree, I think this album is more sonically focused than lyrical. Obviously it’s Billie and Finneas so the lyrics aren’t gonna be bad but it feels like they took a tiny little bit of a backseat. Or perhaps more like a middle seat rather than a driving seat.
@@janab.7037 I mean, I don’t disagree with you. I’ve been listening to the album on repeat and as always with Billie one picks up on more and more details with each listen. I agree that the lyrics have more to them than might be clear at first listen, but I still also think that the sonic aspects of this album are still more in focus than the lyrics. Not saying the lyrics are less than usual but that the focus is even more on the sound on this album
