In 2014 Neymar got injured in the game against Colombia for the world cup, preceding the infamous 7X1. That happened at the 22min mark of the second half. However the t-shirt design used by the guy is from the 2002 World cup era, so it might be a reference to something from that era, like Ronaldo's or Emerson's injury which were also a big deal. Ronaldo's injury was such a big deal that he went with the infamous haircut to stop people from talking about it 😂
There were also some big injuries in this year's cup, but I don't know when that guy made the cosplay, so I'm not sure it's from before or after those.

I wanna see a Japanese comedian deliver a series of apology videos for some minor infraction, first jsut wearing a clean shirt without a tie and looking kinda stressed out. But then he would deliver another apology wearing a modest suit and tie, as a response to the hole he dug himself into.
Then it would just escalate, and he would wear increasingly more "serious" costumes with more effort put in to show his earnestness, eventually forcing him to shoot the video vertically, because he has some ostentatious headdresss and shoulders that go many feet into the air like an anime villain. I wanna see footage of buildings coming down when he bows at the end.

We live in Okinawa for 6 years (USAF). They would open the base to the public for trick or treat on Halloween. Japanese families are super polite and the children had the best costumes. They would reach to the treat bowl and select the smallest candy available. Then they say thank about ten times as they left. A true blessing.

About the default music videos running during Karaoke: I have a friend that repairs/updates the Joycon software used in many karaoke. The reason why the only songs that seem to use their original music videos either come from anime or are western music, it's because apparently they want to prevent weird customers from... pleasuring themselves on MV featuring underaged artists.
They have cameras in the karaoke booths and ofc they don't want customers to leave a... mess, for the employees to clean afterwards.
They've added a new feature in some chains (like Karaokekan) where you can go watch music videos, but you can't go alone, it only books a spot for 2 people or more.

I played frisbee with a group at Yoyogi Koen every Sunday back in 1986. When Halloween came we decided to party on the Yamanote line. About 50 of us dressed up and boarded with a boom box and a trash can full of cold beer at 9pm. The other commuters were surprised but many joined in when we handed the a cold beer. Each year after the crowd got bigger and bigger. In 1990 there were a couple thousand costumed people on the platform at Shinjuku station. The cops tried to disperse the crowd but they got pushed on to the train and had to get off at Shin Okubo. I still have a Friday magazine that wrote an article about the party. I like to think that help kick off the tradition in Japan.

Wow, this is amazing! The entire format is just golden, what a great insight into this culture!
Here's another Taifun story I think you'd enjoy: Some years ago I was skateboarding along the coast of Shikoku, approaching Muroto Misaki - when suddenly an impressive storm unfolded. All the streets were empty, practically no cars on the road. I was getting a bit anxious, as I was aware about the Taifun situation in general (the trip did not happen during Taifun season thou). Suddenly, there's a female voice booming from the public speakers, urging people to do... what exactly? I couldn't quite make it out, but she sounded quite urgent. I did decide against getting a japanese SIM card for the trip, as using GPS defied the purpose of my trip (which was: skate as far as you can and ask people for the way) - so I also couldn't check the news for what's going on. Also, I didn't have any reservations, only a tent in my bag - which leaves me quite exposed to the elements in the middle of nowhere.
However, I was a bit familiar with the concept of public speaker systems. Sometimes they chime at around five to alarm the kids to head home for supper or something, and other times... there's a woman urging the population to head underground because a new ANGEL is approaching Neo Tokyo 3, if you catch my drift. So I knew by heart: When there's a woman on the speaker system with an urgent voice, shit is about to hit the fan in grand fashion.
Finally I arrive at a police station. Surely they'd know what's what! I haste inside... and find a few cops chilling with tea, joking with each other. Good vibes. I'm puzzled by the shift in drama but manage to ask about the booming voice from the speakers, while in fact the voice just stopped for the time being. My japanese ain't the best, so it's like: "What about the lady outside, man?" - "Lady? What lady?" - "The lady from the... from the..." shit, what's "speaker" in japanese. "Well... the lady that speaks!" - "The lady that speaks? Erm... well... what's she look like?" - "What?" - "Huh?"
It goes on this manner for about five minutes. I'm getting more and more anxious, the cops keep smiling throughout. Then suddenly the voice comes back on, you can hear her clearly inside the station. "This lady, this lady!! What's up with that shit man?" The cop's smile froze for a second... they looked at each other, a bit embarrassed to tell: "Well, boy, you don't have to do what she says, don't worry. Doesn't concern you really." - "Nah?" - "Nope. Thing is, these election announcements are indeed getting a bit out of hand if you ask me."
So it turned out that the lady was praising the mayor for the election. As for the storm, to them it wasn't really noteworthy. Embarrassed I rode to a bus station and used it as shelter for the time being, while i humbly decided to upgrade my vocab for particular situations asap.
Anyhooo... back to your channel. Some of these trivia items / facts 'n findings / cultural background stories will most probably end up in the new edition of a book that's featuring my very stupid trip, published by yours truly. I had a typhoon date too early in my time in Japan. We went to Fushimi Inari Shrine (the one w thousands of orange gates). It was awesome. The sky was so dark it was like being there at night minus the unfortunate streetlights that normally come on at night. Very spooky and fun.

These mundane costumes are so funny! I was introduced to this concept last year on Twitter on Halloween and had such a good laugh! 😁

While the origins of Halloween parties in Japan probably started with the famous Yamanote train parties, the big Shibuya parties are a more recent tradition. That party most likely started as a result of a yearly legendary, wild and crazy Halloween parties put on by foreigner DJs and event organizers in the Legato Italian restaurant, just down the street from Shibua 109 in the Espace building. These kicked off sometime around the late 2000s and early 2010s. The thing about Legato was that it has two floors, fifteen floors up, and to get up there hundreds of people had to cram into a lift. With so many people it required a lot of lift trips back and forth before everyone could get up there, and so it wasn't uncommon for foreigners and all their Japanese friends to spill out onto the street and go a bit crazy waiting in the line to the lifts. With people in costume drinking in the street (as you are allowed to in Japan), wishing everyone a happy halloween and having a pre-party during their wait, it wasn't until a few years later that this impromptu Halloween party was wholeheartedly embraced by the Japanese more broadly - resulting the huge Shibuya Halloween street events we see today.

Ahah I bet it was the same typhon that hit me when I travelled to Japan back in 2018. And tbh I had absolutely the same attitude towards it as you did. More over we met a local TV channel reporter right in front of Shinsaibashi and he decided to interview me and my friend asking how do you feel about what's happening in Japan? To his surprise we had no clue about typhon and more over started to scream Kawaii and what not on camera. Baka Gaijin!

There was a typhon when I went on a trip to Japan once. It was just rainy for several days straight and wasn't a big deal. Though I do remember one train got canceled and I had to take a detour.

Haha - the Japanese typhoon story is too funny. I just had that this week. It was great walking through an empty Osaka with just a light rain and a little wind. I do love the way Japan does take it seriously though - it's just random gaijin out walking around.

Ha…. We have hurricanes where I live which are the same thing. Sometimes they do burn out before reaching land but your description of everyone discussing it obsessively as it approaches is so apt. When they do hit hard, though, they are definitely disastrous!

7:38 with the price difference of that caliber I dont think itll make much difference since itll quickly be offset by all the snacks you bought in preparation for the long ride anyways 😅
