Working on a 7810 that the hitch wouldn't lower due to water getting in cylinder and rust building up between wear ring and barrel making the wear ring tight on the rod.
I am not a mechanic or know anything about engines but found this channel and have watched hours of it. It just amazes me watching folks with skills that can do or fix about anything. I spend 10 minutes working on something and get frustrated and throw tools or throw my hands up. Subscribed
Frustrating?? If you only knew!! Working on an a/c for an older truck! Vacuum it down for 30 mins, let it sit for an hour, then when it held, pulled a vacuum and charged it. Two days later, the system leaked so bad, I heard the hissing before the a/c went warm! This weekend, I set out to fix it. Compressor, accumulator, orifice tube, a can of a/c oil, and all, over $300! Already had a 30lb tank of freon. And a spare 30lb tank! New, not reman compressor. First, the orifice tube can only be accessed after removing the front grill. The connections on the condenser were so corroded, I couldn't remove them without $$$$$ damage. So, I didn't replace the tube! Went to install the compressor, and couldn't get the old sensor from the old compressor, so another $20 trip to the store! I get it all finished and go to charge the system, and I'm a couple pounds short in the 30lb tank. No problem, go to retrieve the spare 30lb tank from storage, and even tho it's still sealed in all original wrapping, ITS EMPTY!! That was $100 when I bought it. $130 now!! Off to the parts store for 3 more little can of freon! Get back home, fire it up and the brand new not reman'd compressor has a noise in the brand new clutch!! Oh well, just a noise! Get to the second can of freon, and it's a dud!! It's full, but won't work!! Got 2 in, the third is a dud, and I'm about 1 can short!! Frustrating doesn't even start to describe how working on things can be!! It makes you want to slam your head in a car door, over and over, and over, AND OVER, AND OVER!!
Your right I’ve worked almost all my life without gloves on. From automotive rebuilding to pumps, compressors, pipe work etc. most people nowadays are so scared that something is going to kill them that nothing is getting done unless the older gen does it. Great channel warren.
I like your videos. Just one suggestion, buy some different diameter wire brush wheels to go on the battery drill. These can save you a lot of time and effort cleaning rusty threads. I even bought some cheap gun cleaning kits for they're small diameter wire bore brushes, great for cleaning nuts.

I got a good chuckle when you grabbed the bigger hammer.And, I don't feel so bad now. I was installing new seal kit in a Hein Werner floor jack pump. I tapped two shafts into place. Thought I might have buggered the seals but jack works fine. Only took me 7 years to finally install the parts....
John deere has pins to pull so that you can move the hitch arms around without parking the tractor perfectly. They have metal mushroom caps. Once hooked up you leave the implement down, back up, and everything locks in.
Hey Warren, good video, couple suggestions: ALWAYS measure rods on JD hitch cylinder, they come mix matched from the factory dependent on how tractor hitch specs are. Also, try leaving the barrel attached to the tractor, some cannot be removed anyway. Lower the hitch, remove draft arm on the side you are fixing, lift the hitch with your hoist and block it up, lean the cylinder forward and yard the rod out with your hoist, makes a better stand than your vise, anyway!
Trackman was pretty decent when we replaced the undercarriage on our linkbelt 210x2, but other than that I don’t really know what the extent of their parts availability is. Thanks for the videos and good luck!

I have no problem with people asking questions afterall that is how we learn, but, some could certainly have a serious look at how they ask their questions. When your way out in the outback and miles away from anything. When farm equipment is down it is a cost, it is lost productivity for that farmer. The cost is never the issue, if it needs fixed it gets fixed. What is the issue is downtime, lost productivity for the most part. Time lost can never be recovered only ever has to be made up. We seem to be developing humans who are all soft and moreso now with the PC correct movement... Have you ever seen the movie Wall-E... I sometimes wonder if that is how they want us as humans to end up... because they sure are trying their best to make it happen. Thanks for another really great video Warren. JPayDirt channel, he is over the mountains from you in blackfoot, Idaho and he is always talking about the distributors for his parts; maybe they might have a distributor or two closer to you. He is a cat man though, so that is the majority of his dealings, does have a Wabco or two hanging around.
I am my own worst enemy when trying to fix something, I'm always having to carry tools around with me, because if I set something down and don't pick it right back up, I'll have no idea where I put it 5 minutes later.
Hi Warren, we all beat on screwdrivers , but we keep ones specifically for that use , like on the remains of the seal you took out, until someone comes up whith a tool more virsatile ,I guess I'll keep on using em. Time =money ,and screwdrivers are cheap. I feel for ya on the parts problems , it's endemic all over. Sign of the times mate!. Kind regards.Stuart.
I ain't been saying much cause you already forgot more than I'll learn in my second lifetime but wanted to mention that I had me a fifty gallon tank up under my service truck with water and soap for my little power washer. It wasn't high pressure or volume but it kicked most the nasty off most jobs and made my life a little easier. Most guys don't do stuff like that but I know my customers liked it. I didn't start no detail shop but when it comes time to get all the copper eaz and never seize off where I had it smeared all over. Like I said before, times have changed a bit, me, I'm 72 and I just make it as easy on myself as I can an oh I took my dog everywhere with me, even if I stopped for a cold one ... dog went too. He wasn't welcome well then my welcome wore off too. I bruised a few noses over rude comments that hurt his feelers/LOL

I believe that the two different sizes of cylinders was deeres way of getting different hitch lift ratings. You could have two 70 mm cylinders for one lift capacity, one 70 and one 80 mm cylinders for another capacity, or two 80 mm cylinders for maximum lift capacity. It was all how the tractor was optioned when it was new
Just started dealing with AMS some . Good service to Ontario. However I put a rebuilt pump in a Cx 225 Sr and the input shaft seal leaked immediately(@10psi case pressure ) They air freighted new seal for next day . When I took it apart to replace seal the oring on the bearing carrier was found to be damaged during installation. Maybe just a fluke but I do have to say they had good service even though they had no intrest in reimbursing for labour
Buy a few sizes of rotating disc shaped wire brushes and remove rust and dirt from the inside of cylinders in a few seconds. Very fast and very effective.
Some of those tractors had two 70 mm cylinders for 7725 lb hitch, others had one 70 mm and one 80 mm cylinder for 8925 lb hitch, European versions could be equipped with two 80 mm cylinders for 10,050 lb capacity hitch. Rockshaft between lift arms is plenty strong to keep unequal sized cylinders lifting in time. First time I noticed the size difference on the same tractor was while performing a PDI, tractor was fresh from the factory. That was the year everybody was worried about Y2K,
I've been a hydraulic mechanic for 30 years. We buy cheap screwdrivers for just that reason! Need one sharp for getting behind canned wipers! Need one blunt for putting them in .
I order a lot of aftermarket parts but it isn’t without risks. Sometimes the quality isn’t as good sometimes the fit isn’t exact. And as you said there is time concerns also. As far as the knipex stuff that’s the only pliers that I buy. I especially like their cobra style channel locks. I have gotten stuff out with them that a pipe wrench wouldn’t get out

I must say you know what you are doing, you should get a buddy to work with you, would probably make life easier when trying line parts up to fall in place.
I’d have thought really those arms should go down on there own without the quick hitch fitted, I resealed the rams on my 7710 and they go down on there own as we here in the uk don’t use those quick hitches !. That piston seemed very tight in the cylinder to me tho having to hammer it in like that, when I did mine I could push the piston in and out by hand !.
About that bent cylinder rod. Saw Keith Fenner (machinist on TH-cam) straighten new, out of the box rods to 0.002 runout using heat and cold water. May be more than you need, but interesting technique nonetheless. Love your channel, Warren. I've learned a lot from you and really respect you for your work ethic and honesty. Still, haven't found trouble - those are very good quality but Knipex is expensive - man the rear end is cover in greasy dirt and oil dirt bad - need a little more lead in the ass jumping on that 23 point hitch - but you got it done
Listening to your tale of troubles with the dozer pump. What the supplier is not telling you is that the parts are chinese made and because of the tariffs the supply stream from there is in chaos. I've used con equipment in the past and they are a good company.
20:09 on the knipex if you jam the fastener to the back of the jaws they will also add more grip. Less chance of rounding since it gives 3 sides of contact.
Ya friend of mine just passed he worked for a cat dealership he never used gloves or respirator he died of cancer have several friends that are fighting the shit they are all mechanics. Your grandfather also grew up eating good food not all the processed food I take the precautions lost a lot of friends to that shit
Man soap and water are cheap. No reason to let the back of that machine get in that condition. If it leaks fix it. Simple as that. I hate working on really greasy stuff. That thing is a rolling hydraulic leak.......
The mismatched cylinders might be because somebody needed one in a hurry and they only had one size available or they might have ordered by machine serial number and somebody made a mistake.
I'm not being a smartass Warren but good luck finding a place that will call you back! Years back people had a lot of pride in there jobs. Now people are given jobs that take two maybe three to do the same job and a lot of the time the customers get forgot. The stuff shirts think that with all the technology you can do the work of two or three and get this,they say let the customer call back if you get over loaded! If they need the part they will call back. I hear this everywhere and they tell you thats not true! They tell you that because they don't want to loose there job. And big customers are priority no matter what the hell thay say!

The little guy is always forgotten some how but it’s the little guy that got them started and keeps coming back, maybe not for the high dollar items but a repeat customer over time ! Getting anyone to call ya back today is like pulling teeth! Worst part of the job dealing with assholes lol!
I said this too about 15 yrs ago i notices the trend of the stupidity about ALL types of customer services ..Including general labor in all trades of sorts. The younger generations are incoming into the service industry, the guys of old and their integrity are exiting! Just try to ask someone at ANY auto parts store one question on anything like a u-joint, an set of contact points, or an exhaust manifold donut. And their Cell-Phone BRAINDEAD head cannot process the item, have literally NO clue what was asked or ever heard of such pieces. This country seem LOST!
It seem that what I order is form out where you are along the coast. their has on;y been a few company's that I do not know how they do it but order Friday night and get it on Monday's mail From Ebay. other than that it's a week . NY not far from me but most orders from their takes the longest to get to me.
I've run into a lot of people that want A/C fixed fast. I've heard more than one say that if you don't take care of the A/C the employees may think the rest of it isn't worth taking care of.

Im out of Idaho and use trek for under carriage parts. Ameican crane has quite a bit of aftermarket parts. I believe they ship out of California.

A tool is a tool, a butter knife is a screwdriver in a pinch, and a wrench will work as a hammer when needed.
Could I get you to tell my wife that? After getting thumped on the head one too many times for repurposing her butter knives I've given up. lol

No problem with the head bobbing camera work. My head was bobbing pretty bad last night ....
warren you do a good job but maybe use a bit of penetrating oil and use a bit hyd oil to coat the hyd ram make it a wee bit easier

The mismatched cylinders might be because somebody needed one in a hurry and they only had one size available or they might have ordered by machine serial number and somebody made a mistake.

I'm not being a smartass Warren but good luck finding a place that will call you back! Years back people had a lot of pride in there jobs. Now people are given jobs that take two maybe three to do the same job and a lot of the time the customers get forgot. The stuff shirts think that with all the technology you can do the work of two or three and get this,they say let the customer call back if you get over loaded! If they need the part they will call back. I hear this everywhere and they tell you thats not true! They tell you that because they don't want to loose there job. And big customers are priority no matter what the hell thay say!

The little guy is always forgotten some how but it’s the little guy that got them started and keeps coming back, maybe not for the high dollar items but a repeat customer over time ! Getting anyone to call ya back today is like pulling teeth! Worst part of the job dealing with assholes lol!
I said this too about 15 yrs ago i notices the trend of the stupidity about ALL types of customer services ..Including general labor in all trades of sorts.
The younger generations are incoming into the service industry, the guys of old and their integrity are exiting!
Just try to ask someone at ANY auto parts store one question on anything like a u-joint, an set of contact points, or an exhaust manifold donut.
And their Cell-Phone BRAINDEAD head cannot process the item, have literally NO clue what was asked or ever heard of such pieces.

It seem that what I order is form out where you are along the coast. their has on;y been a few company's that I do not know how they do it but order Friday night and get it on Monday's mail From Ebay. other than that it's a week . NY not far from me but most orders from their takes the longest to get to me.
